Hi mga sis! I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post my question/concern My bf now kasi is in sydney for 5 months and finds it quite difficult to find office job within sydney din. Here in Phils kasi he's doing business development dito. Now he's working sa factory pa lang but we're still looking kung san pa siya pwede mag apply. We tried via Seek pero mukhang mailap ang opportunity... He has working visa and prior staying in australia, he was living in Canada. Any suggestions mga sis kung saan pa pwede mag-apply or search for jobs?

nako ganyan talaga sa Aus. may mga kilala ako na 7 years bago nakakuha ng *medyo* decente na trabaho. yung isa naman 5 years, eto naman puti. galing UK. yung iba naman kilala ko, bumabalik ng schooling para sa ibang linya.

my friends dad naman changed ng linya ng trabaho, it took him 2 years to find someone who wanted him.

swerti swertihan din yan. at mga kilala. hindi mo din maiiwasan, kung sino ang nakaupo, yun ang namimili ng kalahi. kahit kapwa natin ganun din naman eh. not being pea brained, yun lang ang reality.

usually sa mga sites tulad ng seek. matindi ang labanan, libo libo yan. in the first hour of posting, hundreds na ang nagaapply. in 24 hours, libo na yan. pano pa kaya kung 3 days na. or one week.
if you were the recruitment agent, would you go through all of the say, 4000 applicants? some say they don't. as long as makakuha sila ng whatever quota. etc. or the minimum requirements, yun na yun.

people usually focus sa buong aus. kung saan matanggap doon lilipat. some even try NZ.

hindi lahat ng company ay magrerecognize ng previous experience and academic achievements. ang mga masweswerte yung nangaling sa multinational companies. pag P&G ka or Unilever sa pinas, mas may kukuha sa iyo.

thanks akthung for the POVs. grabe din pala, all the while akala namin ok in australia. although before naman na pumunta ng canada si bf for vacation, he's working here as a business devt manager. sabi nga rin nya medyo mataas daw ang discrimination rate in australia so mahirap makahanap ng work...because of this scenario, we're thinking now na bumalik na lang dito sa pinas dahil mas mukhang may opportunity pa....anyway try try lang din ulit kami sa pag aapply...

well, re: job hunting, i don't want to peg it fully as discri.

ang ibang lahi din kasi malakas ang tulungan. ie Indian, Chinese. so maaaring sila sila din eh inuuna ang kapwa. so hindi lang mga puti. sa ibang bansa may na huli ako na pinoy HR recruiter, pinoy lang ang pinipili. its actually in a way wrong. but that's the real world.
 
but overall discri, meron talaga yan. ika nga nila dito, "discrimination is so casual." kasama na dyan kasi ang british arrogance plus the insular mentality (which pinoys also have). after all isolated din ang Aus and its a big "island"

eh dito? mga inaabuso sa train/tram/bus, AFL, etc., kapag yun ang nabalita. may imik ba mga ang PM? ang Pulitiko? ang celebrities? wala.

dati nga, pansin ko, pag may lumabas ng store at tumunog ang alarm, kapag puti, walang pakialam ang tao, titingin lang saglit. pero pag iba na kulay ng balat, titigil lahat, tapos gagalaw ang store clerk para icheck ang bag.

pero ako, when i first got here long time ago, in a filipino party, i asked if may "D" pa ba, lol, lahat tumahimik, then one of them said, the wife of the host, "lakasan mo lang loob mo at lumaban ka"

she did not deny. nako, ibang kababayan natin mag dedeny to death.

Grabe naman pala, at least we're having an idea on how things go there. Another observation nga rin daw is yung mga job opportunities favorable kapag may IT background. Unluckily si BF hindi IT so mahirap makahanap....

i know people din na may IT background na nagkakatrouble.

you can always study those naman or take the course pero experience naman ang hahanapin. the typical catch 22 problem.

if you surf the net nga, you'll see all of the car manufacturers in australia have announced that they will leave Australia. plus there are a number of resource based companies ay nagsabi din aalis. tens of thousands nga will join the job market.

i opine, aus should really put a hold on new migrants. new graduates are having trouble as well and they are the future. its not that tamad ang mga nasa australia. hindi lahat. its just that companies are like SM -- they do not want to pay or do what is right.

Job hunting is really a challenge here in AU. Been here a few months and I've gotten more reject letters than call backs. It's disheartening but what else can you do but to just keep on applying, hoping that 1 will notice you and give you that fair chance.

I've opened my self to getting even the oddest jobs there is and somehow place my years of experience at the back seat. However, things are still the same. I don't have a success story to tell just yet but I hope to be able to share one soon.

As for fellow Filipinos, it is sad that some of them would, not necessarily put you down, but ignore you or refuse to help. And that's even more painful.

totoo yan.mas united pa ang ibang lahi.  pero huwag ka pag umutang naman ang pinoy. grabe. kala mo sinong mabait. minsan meron dyan uutang para lang makapag abroad, or makauwi lang pinas para magpakitang gilas.

also, a good tip is, when you foresee yourself going job hunting after a contract, it pays to have some savings as you don't know how long you'll be out.

a friend nga nabwiset sa Aus eh. umuwi ng pinas, nag apply sa Canada. boom. never seen him so happy. sabi nga niya, kahit gaano ka tense ang situation, wala man lang kahit anong racism.

anyway tama na. lol be positive. keep on trying.

naku sorry i think i started a kind of "nega" mood here. not my intention though... i think yung sa job issue lahat naman ata ng mga countries na-eexperience yan. Tama ka akthung, kanya kanyang laban lang yan and matira ang matibay sa mga nakikipagsapalaran.

Sana swertihin din kami sa job hunting in the next few months as my bf's working visa is valid until december na lang. if nothing good comes out of it, babalik na lang siya. there's nothing wrong in coming back naman din di ba...pero sobrang sa experience nya ko nakita yung hirap ng pagiging ofw. I mean yung mga pinapanood ko na kwento sa TV na mga nag-abroad at nahirapan, nagtake ng blue collar jobs etc. Never thought it was this hard until sa kanya mismo nanggaling. yes when we convert the earnings to pesos, ang laki talaga, pero pag iisipin mo yung work doon, parang is it even worth it...siguro ako papasyal na lang ako ng AUS. hehe.

I say, go where your gold is, whether pinas or canada or ano pa man. lots of filipino-aussies shop sa pinas. im sure you know that. doble kasi sa amin kahit may free trade agreement with other countries.

I had fun when I visited my sister in Melbourne for the first time. Dami kong bloopers plus learned a lot about Aussies.

I was scared/intimidated before flying because I had this notion that they discriminate (I heard this way way before from some people) but I was proven wrong. They're very friendly and not once did I encounter rude people there. In fact mas masusungit pa nga mga Pinoy dito sa atin haha

You don't go there to shop, but you go there for the sights and sceneries...and coffee!

Two weeks was soooo bitin  I wanted to see the 12 Apostles. Sayang.
