^sis, question lang. kahit yun ang request ng late wife niya, did he include you ba sa decision making na that chunk of money will be set aside for his daughter's schooling? IMO kasi hindi biro ganyang amount eh so dapat pag usapan yan ng mag-asawa para claro set-up. step-daughter mo na din aksi siya, she's almost also yours na din. tingin ko ha. and sana, kahit pa yan ang last habilin ng wife niya eh he asked for your opinion pa din. you're a family na eh, hindi na pwede yung solo-solo flight. not just in money matters pero in making major decisions as well.

^^i think you are just on the right track. I say, think of what he does for you and not for other people, so tama lang na wag ka makialam sa schooling nung step daughter mo.

ayaw ko nga sana talagang makialam, well sa ngayon wala pa kaming baby, pero we are planning to have by nextyear.

I handle the money though we both have access to the joint account. I would like to try the online payments once we transfer to our new place para hassle free.

caterpillar-girl We have our own bank accounts for our salaries and then ako transfer ko lahat sa joint account after ko bayaran ang credit card ko and my mortgage sa Pinas. Si hubby naman he pays the mortgage then set aside our savings before he transfer everything to the joint account.

The joint account we both have an ATM card para we can withdraw anytime, walang hingian ng pera sa amin. Pero before we buy especially kung something big nagpapaalam kami (most of the time ako naman ang nagpapaalam). :)

JINJIN:* I think you should discuss that matter with your hubby if you don't feel comfortable, you are partners so joint kayo sa decision plus part din sya ng family. Based from my experience, kapag meron hindi ako agree tapos hindi ko sinabi kay hubby madali akong magalit (before ito nung hindi pa kami mag-asawa). So we agreed, lahat dapat pinag-uusapan.  I think din hindi titipirin ni hubby mo ang anak ninyo, same way ng hindi nya tinipid ang anak nya sa late wife.

Kami ni hubby, since we are both working, we maintain individual bank accounts and we also have joint bank accounts.

2 indivudual account
1 account for our daughter
1 joint account

Di ko tinutubuan yung husband ko hehe pero bayad naman agad siya pag nakikiride sa credit cards ko for his gaming needs haha.

Ano ba special sa joint accounts maliban sa pag tumalbog yung cheque e parehas kayong kulong at mawiwithdraw nyo parehas ang pera? Wala kasi kaming ganon, puro BPI transfers lang.

^ *knock on wood* kapag may emergency like namatay yung isa sa inyo, you can easily get your money out of the bank. kung unfortunately sa deceased nakapangalan yung bank account kailangan mo magbayad ng tax at mag-present ng documents to get the amount.

Been married for months now but I'll only be joining my husband by next month. I'm still working here and my income all goes for my expenses and family allowance. My husband also sends me a monthly allowance and for the specific expenses related sa pagsunod ko sa kanya dun-- visa application, medical exam.

I've proposed to him that once I joined him there, I'll be in-charge of the finances-- budgeting, savings, investment. On my first months there, obviously, sa lanya lahat ng expenses pero once I get also to work, eto yung proposed hatian namin:

He takes care of all our expenses and we'll be alloting 80-90% of his income for our expenses tapos 10-20% will go to his personal savings. My income's breakdown naman will be like this: 10%- tithes, 40%- joint savings account, 10%- padala sa family ko, 10%- Philippine peso savings so we have something to spend pag umuwi kami sa Philippines, 20%- personal savings ko, 10%- investment. And oh, we didn't allot a specific portion na ibibigay for his parents since secured naman mga in-laws ko. We'll just allot gifts for them during special occasions.

He agreed naman to my proposal and we'll be having a serious talk about our finances, i.e. financial goals as a couple pag nandun na ako.  ;)

Since my husband is a registered financial planner here in Philippines, siya lahat naggagawa ng planning ng pera namin, pero nasa akin parin yung pera dahil ako naman yung nag apply nung mga planning na ginagawa niya.

I'm not married (yet  ;D) but the topic of financial setups after getting hitched isn't new to me, I have two close relatives who confide to me about their tumultuous relationships because of money.

Medyo mahaba, but please bear with me  ;D

Case1: Jenny is a stay at home mom who live with her in-laws. Work ni hubby niya? Waiter at a Videoke Bar. The husbands hands over all of his earnings to Jenny and only asks for a DAILY allowance of 50php.  There are times that the hubby would ask for 20-40php pang yosi tsaka softdrinks lang pero hindi pa binibigay ni Jenny.

Granted na mahirap na ang sitwasyon, wouldn't it hurt na yung konting luho mo lang hindi mo mabili, even if you earned the money? Eventually, napansin ni wife na hindi na nanghihingi ng extra yung husband niya, until she started doing the laundry. when she took out her husband's dirty sock from his shoe.... HALA! She found 200php! :))))))

She didn't think much of it at first until she found out na yung extra earnings ng husband niya from buy-sell-customizing motor parts, hindi na binabanggit sa kanya. Despite the fact that the husband wasn't doing anything 'wrong', the financial infidelity made her rethink their financial setup.

Case2: This is from the other end of the spectrum naman. Roy is a doctor. Being the nice guy that he is.... and the panggungulit of the wife na "Sa pamilyang pilipino, babae talaga ang nag-bubudget ng pera". He agreed to this setup, all of his income goes to the wife.

Walang masama kung fair si wife, but she isn't, compulsive buyer, maluho, mahilig manggutang sa mga Co-op, credit card swiper much! She would get her hair done for 6k! Ang sweldo naman ni wife? 12k a month.

As the years went by, the relationship got colder and colder. Roy is typical goody goody boring guy kasi, total contrast with his social butterfly na wife. Since they aren't in good terms, his allowance started dwindling until it was completely gone. What's worse is that the wife has access to his salary, since they both work for the government, and the people at city hall know their relationship, they allow the wife to get Roy's salary.

Roy lectured his wife on budgeting, yung wife nagalit at sinabing "Sige! Edi ikaw mag budget!", Roy agreed to do it but the wife said NO, she was bluffing lang pala. :))

Umabot din sa point na na-sagad yung limit ng credit card nila and Roy ripped it in half. YES, RIPPED IT IN HALF WITH HIS BARE HANDS!

Roy finally saw the picture. He works 3 side jobs. Alam ni wife yun, and she still gets the income from those! Si Roy dinadaan na lang sa kupit, 200 dito, 300 dun, 150.... chump change, he's even happy if he gets an extra 500, and this is a MEDICAL DOCTOR!

Every time na kasama ko si Roy, he gripes endlessly. He has recently opened 2 secret savings account na hindi alam ng wife and he already has 40k savings in 4 months, all from his 'kupit' lang, imagine how good this man is at handling money.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Akin yung diapers and milk, sayo yung household utilities at si yaya. Tapos, just set an amount for joint savings. :)

Bottom line is everyone is entitled to enjoy their earnings. Don't deprive your partner if you are solely in-charge of accounting for household expenses... and be transparent. :3

what works for us:

hubby's salary straight sa joint account.i just withdraw a fixed amount every end of the month for our baby's needs.

my money: all mine. kung ano gusto ko bilhin for my baby, ako na gumagastos. ayoko nag eexplain pa bakit kailangan bilhin, blah blah..

so far pareho kami ok sa ganitong set up

even before we got married, we agreed to pool our salary together then divided it to -
savings
expenses
spending money for me
spending money for him

savings is sacred, will use that for big purchases like a house. expenses is everything we need everyday as well as holidays. spending money is for anything we want.

this has worked so far and we don't even fight about money.

At kung same-minded ba kayo in terms of financial decisions.

What's mine is mine, and what's his is also mine :)  Again, this is just to make me feel better kasi technically, conjugal na lahat.
