How to confront a cheating dad?
« on: November 04, 2012, 06:03:44 pm »
My dad has always been accused of cheating. When i was younger, i met the girl, but didnt fully understand who she was. That ended, it wasnt a smooth ending. I remember my mom meeting with the kumares who has gotten hold of pictures of the girl. Her name is joy. I dont wish her well.

Almost twenty years later, it has not changed. The stories re his cheating still exists. But who are the sources, the drivers and the alalays from home and work.

He and my brothers used to work under the same 'company'. My elder brothers are always saying na may babae nga daw si dAddy, nakabahay pa. Kesyo may condo sa ganyan ganyan. My mom brushes this off. Pero minsan pag inaaway sya ni daddy for other things, ihihirit to ng nanay ko and gagamiting pambara sa dad ko. Come to think of it, my dad never denied. Hahah, ngayon ko lang narealize. He's a lawyer, btw.

Ive never caught him sa celphone.

Three nights ago, around midnight he was texting me, i replied, then he replied again na nagbubura sya ng messages nabura yung message ko, so ingat na lang daw ako. Okay. Pero nagbubura ng message? Baket.

Every night, almost, he's out, sugal ang excuse nya. Im twenty five, my mom is sixty one, dad is sixty five. Wala na kami pakealam sa pagsugal nya.

Then there's this new 'development' sa bahay namin. The yaya of my nephew is naglalandi sa boy namin, and they seem to be doing it everywhere. Di ko nahuhuli in the act pero, the kids are talking and i dont like that. Yung boy namin, pinapaaral namin yun. Bente anyos. Versus the yaya who is late thirties.

All my dad said was, obserbahan pa nya. That was two nights ago. Tonight, the boy was sent away, we assumed sa kanilang bahay namin. My kuya called up another kuya sa kabila, sabi wala daw dun. Dumaan lang.

My kuya thinks na dun sa kabit dinala yung boy helper namin. Hayy. Hoshieeeet.. Hmph.

So, i want to get to the bottom of things. I dont know how to approach my dad ng di sya nababastusan sakin. Im not the best daughter, ive raised my voice at my dad since time immemorial. I was a spoiled brat. But now, i think im just a tad rebellious, but not bad. I just go stray from what he wants but hindi naman bad. He's lost control over me, kaya medyo di na ako gusto ng dad ko. Our family is weird like that.

So i want to approach him, maybe nicely. But i dont know how to ask, what to say... He's old, and ive watched far too many telenovelas to know na the cheating father always leaves (upon death) a mess pag may kabit...

I dont know if maniniwala na ako sa mga sinasabi ng kapatid ko. Pero hindi kasi okay sakin na may kahati, in life, even more so in death.

My lolo has an illegitimate son, R1, that never got acknowledged socially, but was legally. And nakahati sya sa mga mana namin ngayon. But he declined.
My dad, the executor, decided to give a part to R2, the illegitimate son of his illegitimate brother, na di rin natanggap nor na acknowledge. Pinsan ko sya. He's not in our lives really, pero pag may events minsan andyan sya, bastos din kasi itong si R2, binastos din lolo ko when he was still alive.

Dont get me wrong, this is not just about mana mana, pero sa dami kasi ng gulo na pinagdaanan ng family, ayoko ng madagdagan pa. Peace of mind lang ang gusto ko. Yesterday, i didnt bother myself kung may kabit man ang tatay ko, pero now, i just want to know the truth so i know how to deal!!

Help!

Sorry mahaba, im so sorry...

Update: yaya is sad.

May celphone, so idk if they talk. Kuya hinks nilipat ng bahay, kung saan i really dont know, i dont care about the boy. I care about saan sya napunta, kung kanino sya napunta.

My kuya has been poisoning my head. He just said, "binata pa lang ako, dami na sikreto ni daddy satin. May anak na ako ngayon, ganun pa din..." I believe in karma. While our family is not the worst, napakadaming baho na pwedeng lumbas. My dad, muntik na magpolitiko, kumontra ako dahil politics is dirty and ayoko magkaroon ng dahilan for people na ungkatin ang baho namin as a family.

Sakit ulo.

I apologize for this loooong post.

Sorry sis to hear about your dilemma.  Sakit na talaga iyan ng lipunan natin and how I wish ma-protektahan ang kids sa mga katarantaduhan na ginagawa ng mga tatay.

Don't get me wrong, my dad and ex-father-in-law are the opposite. bahay-office lang sila. It was my ex. grabe.  And I came to a decision na never ko gusto na makita ng next generation na ok ok lang ang ganyang pinagagagawa.

How is your mom, it is not OK you know.  Pero ang hirap being the wife.  somehow, all the kids should be there for your mom.

In your case naman, parang feeling ko useless unless magjoin forces kayo magkakakapatid and tell your dad directly, why is he like that at bakit hindi siya nahihiya sa pinagagagawa nya. Kung ginagawa nya yan ng matagal na, what makes you think he will change just because of one conversation.  Mga taong ganyan, walang ibang unang iniisip kundi sarili nila, and at his age, mahirap na magbago unless something drastic happens (knock on wood).

Why will you confront your 65yo dad?    To learn the truth about his kab1tch/extramarital affairs?
IMO, he will not spill the beans to you.
You & your siblings may get more/accurate info by hiring a detective.
Then, you will find out if you have half-siblings.

Or, you want to confront him to appeal he drop his immoral ways?
Can you force an old dog to learn new tricks?  The old dog  will most likely bite you.

What was your other issue?  The malandi yaya.  Who is her employer?  Shouldn't that be the person concerned about her propensity to scratch her itch, regardless of a minor being privy to such scratching?

Somethings in life are wrong, but it is not for us to make these right.
But these wrong things we can learn from.  See, Smart People learn fom their  mistakes; but Smarter People learn fom others' mistakes.

You mentioned that you previously didn't care if your dad had a kab1tch; but now you want to know.
What is it that made you turn 360degrees?

And don't say it isn't  about mana-mana.  You mean the distribution of the estate,  right?
Well, (knock on wood) when your pop conks out, it will surely be about mana-mana because it will be the language your family will be using  among yourselves, as well as with any kab1tch & illegimate children of your dad.  You see, it isn't the money/properties per se.  The way the estate is distributed is meant to  reflect "what's but right, legal & moral".  Expect "language" problems basta may kab1tch & illegitimate kids.

It depends if he has a conscience, if he does sana ma-konsensya mo sya.

It also depends if he loves you as his child, kasi di ba mahiya naman sya.

It also depends if he cares about his reputation, he really cant hide that forever, people will know, if he's working pa, it could jeopardize his job, his friendship with other people.

Also, as they say, karma, or his children will bear the consequences of his actions.
Since he is old, all he can do is REPENT. Also, does he have that lots of money to keep a mistress?

@sis muy003

sis i can feel you. di pa confirmed if my dad is cheating pero may mga rumors and sources daw si mommy who personally approached her. actually i think i'm not a good daughter to my mom kasi up to now i still consider na paranoid lang siya. i know masama yun kasi alam ko na nasasaktan siya.

ako i'm the eldest sa amin, also my dad's fave, and i'm like the number one defender of my dad in everything, i'm his number 1 "man". pati lola ko sa mom's side ko (she's like the "godfather" equivalent ng pamilya) inaaway ko if i get the feeling they're pushing my dad to a corner. but unlike you bata pa ako, i'm only 22, still studying and still dependent on them. pero since i'm the eldest i confronted my dad. i skipped class and went home pa talaga to talk to him. i asked straight up if may babae siya. he answered directly na wala daw. i told him his mistakes, that he could've handled this better, etc.

then i thought tapos na yun pero turned out close-close pa rin siya dun sa babae. in my way of thinking kasi, if someone is already jealous, dapat istop na yung reason for getting jealous. but my dad didn't. it continued as if wala talaga, like wala talaga silang affair. nagegets ko naman yung point niya (this is my "assumed" point niya, i never asked why he's still being friendly with the babae) na if he stopped interacting with the babae eh the people in the company will think it's fishy and baka mabackup-an pa yung rumors. pero kasi jealousy is such an ugly thing eh, i dont think it will ever be extinguish once it has started. maybe liliit but it will always be there. you'll always have second thoughts and doubts plus loss of self-esteem. for me, what's important eh wag nang pagselosin pa lalo si mommy. kasi the more he does that, the more she gets jealous and mas mag-aaway/magkakasakitan sila. i think my dad should get his priorities straight.

my friend told me na if mahal talaga ako ng dad ko, he'll tell me the truth no matter what. i always believe everything my dad tell me. all i need is a word from him. ganon ako kaloyal sa kanya. pero i hate it when he's being like this, being weak. actually ngayon naiinis na talaga ako, inaaway ko na siya and like my mom, i seem to connect everything dun sa "babae" niya.

Sorry sis to hear about your dilemma.  Sakit na talaga iyan ng lipunan natin and how I wish ma-protektahan ang kids sa mga katarantaduhan na ginagawa ng mga tatay.

this is true. kaming mga anak, nung mga times na kakasimula nito, we dont know who to believe. i know i'm my dad's man pero whenever i listen to my mom, tuwing umiiyak siya, tapos yung mga sinasabi niya sa amin na siya hindi siya nag-give up pero mas mabigat yung reason niya to give up tapos si daddy hindi and mas suportado daw namin si daddy pero si daddy pa rin ang nag give up. it was that part that made me feel that i hated my dad. nung i thought he did give up on us. kasi siya yung "mas parent" namin. siya yung rock namin. pero ayun.
then i know din kasi the personality of my mom, wala siya masyadong kaclose. di nga niya kami kaclose na mga magkakapatid masyado eh. all she had is daddy and he knows that. i hated him too for leaving her like, for abandoning her. naiiyak ako tuwing naiisip ko yun.
tapos siyempre my mom also tells us yung mga sinasabi nung mga "sources" niya.

then there is my dad, prone to heart attack, has history of hypertension, stressed din sa work. i dont want na baka mapano siya if lagi siya inaaway ni mommy.

Ladies, thanks for your reply. Ill reply to each of you at a later time. I just have to sort out how i really feel.

Right now, here's what's on top of my head...
I want to know now cause im tired of the rumors. I just want to know. My kuyas all say he has a mistress. But i want a name. Detective nga siguro makakasagot. Im not yet capable of hiring one, so ill put the idea on hold.

My family is not rich. Kung kaya nya magtago ng kabit? Im not sure. "Power", meron sya. He dislikes me why im settling for a powerless job. Some of his wealth, nakapangalan na samin ng mom ko. Then again, baka nga sa iba naman sya nagpapatulong. Yung sweldo nya, maliit lang naman yun, nakikita ng nanay ko monthly yun kasi sya nagwiwithdraw most times, i think di kayang magtago ng kabit yung sweldong yun, pero income outside monthly compensation, pwede.

Then i just remembered, about two years ago. I borrowed my dad's everyday car for some event. He's really makalat so my boyfriend cleaned up the car. He later showed me a box enduranz. Im sure as hell that my parents are no longer doing it so... This proves the fact that he's cheated, yeah? I dont know if its ongoing. I want a name, so i could bitc# slap the b1tch. I dont really care how my dad would react if ever, ngayon pa.

Naguguluhan ako, di ko alam.

Ayoko yung gulo na pwedeng mangyare when he's gone. I hate this!

When i was younger, sinabihan ko na sya nun, siguraduhin nyang nakapangalan sakin lahat ng dapat nakapangalan sakin. It was just a half meant joke. I also know na kahit di hatian ang illegitimate child sa isang written will and testament, they still have a share. I dont remember if its as much as a legitimate child's share or half of it... Sorry pero... Hayy sorry, sana walang maoffend.

Ngayon, chill muna ako, isip on what i should do, or what i can do. Tahimik sa bahay. Pero i cant help but think minsan kung nasa kabit nga ba yung boy helper namin.

Sorry. Mahaba, makwento lang...

May nagreply here na she's her daddy's man. I guess i'm like that too. I have not seen her ngayon matanda na sila na magworry regarding kabit. As a kid, id always draw my dad as an angel and my mom as the devil. Daddy's girl. So i havent really cared much for how my mom feels. Ang bad ko.. Nageeffort ako minsan to be friends with mom, but for reasons beyond this issue, mahirap maging friend si mommy. She's a good person, i think. But she has some twisted sense din. I love my mom, mababaliw ako kung mawala sya but she makes it hard for me to get close to her. Yes we talk, but never about dad's cheating. When my kuyas tease her about it, she brushes it off. Di ko alam kung ano na iniisip nya when she's alone. Yeah, tease talaga, nang aasar ba. I guess they're taking it lightly. So di ko alam kung totoo ba.. Grr!

Di ko alam if necessary to ask my dad to change. Like what everyone's been saying, he's old. But i just want to know. Should i be worried about half siblings, i want to know na if one exists.. Nakita ko kasi how crazy it could get so gusto ko lang ihanda sarili ko? Put up preventive measures if necessary to avoid gulo and scandal... Ewan, di ko alam! Hindi ko pa alam...

aquacharly, ma'm..
Why will you confront your 65yo dad?    To learn the truth about his kab1tch/extramarital affairs?
IMO, he will not spill the beans to you.  >>YOU ARE RIGHT. HE IS LIKELY TO DENY OR WOULD NOT TAKE THE QUESTION SERIOUSLY. IM NOT GONNA GET A DECENT ANSWER IF I JUST ASK HIM STRAIGHT.
You & your siblings may get more/accurate info by hiring a detective. >>NOT RIGHT NOW, BUT I MIGHT IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
Then, you will find out if you have half-siblings.

Or, you want to confront him to appeal he drop his immoral ways?
Can you force an old dog to learn new tricks?  The old dog  will most likely bite you. >>INDEED.

What was your other issue?  The malandi yaya.  Who is her employer?  Shouldn't that be the person concerned about her propensity to scratch her itch, regardless of a minor being privy to such scratching?  >>DAD IS THE EMPLOYER, HENCE MY KUYA NAGSUMBONG LANG, DI MAPALAYAS. DAD SAID NUNG UNA NA HE'LL OBSERVE MUNA. LAST NIGHT, THE BOY IS NO LONGER WITH US. NACONNECT LANG KASI SABI NI KUYA UNTOUCHABLES ANG HELPER DAHIL SA MGA SECRET NA ALAM NILA. NGAYON, WALA NA YUNG BOY. MALABONG PINAUWE YUN NG PROBINSYA DAHIL LATE NA YESTERDAY NG UMALIS, AND SUPPOSEDLY HINATID PA NG DAD KO SA PIER. MY DAD WOULD NEVER DO THAT HATID THINGY. DITO PAPASOK YUNG ISSUE NG KABIT. BAKA NASA KABIT SI BOY. MIGHT ASK MALANDING YAYA KUNG ASAN NGA SYA, PAG DI NA UMAARTE ITONG YAYA NA ITO.

A PART OF ME NAAWA SA BOY, KASI YUN NGA PINAARAL, HE GOT GOOD GRADES NAMAN. AS IN. TAS SINAYANG NYA.

You mentioned that you previously didn't care if your dad had a kab1tch; but now you want to know.
What is it that made you turn 360degrees?  >>PEACE OF MIND, WHAT IF WALA NAMAN? KUNG MERON, WELL, I DONT WANT TO BE THE LAST TO KNOW. AND YEAH, SIGURO NGA, AYOKO NG ISSUE SA MANA. GUSTO KO RIN MAKILALA YUNG KABIT IF EVER. WHAT I WOULD DO TO HER IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY NA AYOKO MUNA ISIPIN.

I GUESS OKAY LANG FOR ME NA MAG CHEAT SYA WITH VARIOUS WOMEN, JUST NOT ONE NA MAY BAHAY PA AND WORSE, MAY HALF SIBS PA AKO.

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUTS, I APPRECIATE IT.

Dhee dhee,

I hope you think of something or may mapulot ka from others here. I myself dont know what to do, and nasa pinas lang kaming lahat...

Good luck!

Agape,

Ive answered in my first reply na regarding his capability to keep a kabit. He's a shark, so im not sure sa conscience part ng tatay ko. Natawa ako sa sagot ko. Yeah, wala ata sya nun.

Iwannabeasupermodel,

I hope you find an answer to your dilemma too. I hope you could be strong for your mom. Its good to hear out what she's got to say. At least nakakarelease sya sayo. I also agree with other ladies here na di aamin ang tatay even if confronted. Best bet na talaga is to play detectives or hire one. Naisip kong baka ako mismo di ko kayanin itong ganito..lalo na if may pictures..

Can a psychologist, psychiatrist, counselor, and/or church ministers help the family and your cheating dads?

^ if a person is not willing to change, they are not willing to spend a single second with any of these people.

^^ dhee dhee and muy003:  ang hirap na problem talaga nyan.
you really need to join forces with your mom and just stick together.  kaya nakakaya kaya kayo ng dad nyo kasi watak watak kayo.  kelangan ninyo sya layasan talaga para mas maging peaceful ang buhay niyo.

muy003 - as for your mom, typical filipino wife with a philandering husband who does not want to rock the boat - the defense mechanism lang talaga is to brush it off and psych yourself it never happened and keep yourself sane.  the dilemma kasi of wives if they fight back - sila pa ang lalabas na masama for aggravating the situation, destroying the family, etc. whereas ang totoong sumira nyan eh dad mo. he should be blamed for everything (aside from his mistress). and to be with someone like him is kahiya hiya talaga - be the wife or the kids (sorry sis).

^ yah, may kaunting kurot but nandito na ito and what you said is true. My mom naman when i was younger, fighter talaga. My dad is a good provider. Unfortunately, dun lang ata sya magaling. I still love my dad and ipaglalaban ko ng patayan yan.

I also have to agree, my dad would not change naman, on his own. I just hope na by some miracle tumigil sya sa kalokohan nya at sana wala akong ibang kapatid. They have a relationship with the Church. go to mass every sunday, gives support to the Church, friends with the priest... Afaik, ako ang bunso sa amin, even sa generation ng magpipinsan  and that's how it should be til the end. I want the facts lang talaga, kung meron man o wala..

i agree with Girltalker2, i guess you have to make your dad feel UNwelcome in the family. Like make him an outcast, he should know na wala syang maaasahan na sa family, kundi let him all depend on his kabit na lang.

make your dad feel the shame and the consequences, he should be the one suffering and not the whole family. Be the one happy in life and not your dads, ipakita niyo sa kanya yun.
Try something different na lang, since quarrelling/arguing with your dads never worked in the past.

asawa nga walang nagawa ikaw pa. there are some things you just cant do anything about kahit lumuha ka pa ng dugo.

anyways, if true the kabit issue, mas may K ka naman siguro maglambing at humiling sa dad mo than the outsiders right?

remember, the early bird catches the worm .. dahil kapag deads na si papa, legalities na kalaban mo

more or less my hidden account yan sis. kung sa case nga namin ah, my mom "holds" and budgets all the money pero nagawa pa rin ng dad ko na bigyan ng gifts yung babae. and believe when i tell you na sobrang strict ng mom ko sa money.

the sad truth is, a cheating man will NEVER admit that he is cheating. kahit magmakaawa ka pa, maglupasay, mangthreat. malalaman mo lang na he's cheating if there'll be evidences. like caught red-handed or pictures.

Sis riane, i am financially independent, though i am in between jobs right now. I still believe that apart from love, money makes the world go 'round. Tatay ko rin nagturo sakin nito, i have to be financially independent and after college, i got myself a pretty damn good job... Made my move to greener pastures, hence, in between ako ngyon. Unfortunately, three months ang waiting time, my point is, di naman ako magugutom ng wala dad ko.

I don't want your hurt to turn into hatred towards your cheating fathers.
I would prefer that you feel both compassion and apathy as I have learned.

Btw, my dad is the same, with my mom first, and my step-mom second. My half-siblings kampi sa mom nila, my step-mom, even though she's become like her husband na rin. Ganun na situation nila, it's worse Diba?
