Skin Problems in Dogs

abuanddiego - they all had this itchy parts na parang flaky, rough patches and medyo inflamed.

the vet did some scrape tests to determine kung mange. hindi naman daw.

they were on co-amoxiclav, antihistamines and were told to use an acapulco soap. the vet prescribed Royal Canin SC 21 pero dahil faithful ako sa Go!, I bought a bag of duck.

after a month, okay na sila so I figured it must have been those boiled chickens.

brandi - my Rootbeer had this wound na medyo napabayaan ng breeder when I got him. Isang open wound and isang inflamed part na medyo rough. I was informed of it pero hindi ko in-expect na ganon. my brother's a nurse so what he did, he shaved those parts and he would usually do the "cleaning" of the wound for me kasi medyo queazy ako when it comes to that. Twice a day.

I remember ang combo namin was clean it with sterile water, then hydrogen peroxide, then betadine then ointment (the name escapes me). Come bathing time, acapulco soap. thankfully, it healed. He was on antibiotics, too.

^that's what im planning to do except for the betadine. pag nag dry kasi yun itchy kaya hindi ko na lang lagyan noon. also, i think ill try the acapulco soap instead of sulfur soap. i hope to find one in drugstores nearby. :p

Aside from hydrogen peroxide and betadine, chlorhexidine/mouthwash diluted with equal parts of water is also effective in treating wounds, hot spots, etc. listerine gold yung most effective.

I've read na okay din ang turmeric or luyang dilaw for it has anti-bacterial/fungal properties, yun nga lang very messy ito, maninilaw kayo ng dog mo once ipahid madre de cacao or kakawate is very effective din in dealing with skin problems. ako kasi mas gusto ko na natural products gamitin sa kanila, a dog's skin kasi is more sensitive than humans, very toxic sa kanila kung gagamitan natin ng harsh products lalo kung may open wound.

enitsirhc, so after a month pa pala sila naging okay? yung kay abu naman is not flaky, namumula then parang may mga pantal. even the skin around his eyes namumula. san makikita ang acapulco soap sis?

^ sa Animal House ko unang nabili then after a while, hanap sa Sulit and Multiply for replacement.

I think sa Multiply ako nakahanap.

yung sa kanila, inflamed na parang pantal (bigger nang kaunti sa 1 peso coin) na kung hahawakan mo, flaky and rough.

sis minnie try braggs acv with mother, hinahalo ko yan sa drinking water nila, 2 tsp in 1 liter na nilalagay ko. dapat dahan dahan na pag introduce from few drops. gamit ka ng pet bottle para di masayang yung water.

naalala ko yung birdie ni abu nun, nagmukhang kulubot na hotdog with matching pantal. kaya pala ayaw tumigil kakascratch, yun pala puno na ng allergy yung tummy. di kami nakatulog nun kasi todo scratch sya. pansin ko pa, when he's not feeling well, gusto tabi kami sa bed magsleep.

^sa sm hypermarket sis may nakikita ako, kaso parang madali maout of stock. yung fish oil nakita mo? meron din nito sa sm groceries.

Update lang guys. naubusan ako ng orijena nd acana fish kaya vitality muna sa give ko sa 2 doggies with mange. Nagbibigay ako ng fish oil na lang separately. question ko lang, yung vet na iba ko kinonsult gave me amitraz soap.iiwan siya sa skin for 3days.kakastart ko pa lang today. how will i determine kung effective nga yung soap?i mean what do i need to expect?

^sis ano ang diagnosis ng vet? demodectic mange or sarcoptic mange? kung demodectic, mas madali gamutin, kahit herbal soaps kaya yan. amitraz kasi is very harsh on skin, toxic sya both for the dog and the human. most owners won't advice you to use it kasi may natural remedies naman like soap with madre de cacao. pero to answer your question, usually malalaman kung effective kung natutuyo ang sugat. then watch out for signs like vomitting, diarrhea, incoordination, lethargy.

^sis demodectic daw. super harsh ba?ill buy acapulco soap nlng mag swith na lang ako doon kasi ang instruction let it stay on their skin for 3 days. wala naman fresh wounds eh. dry skin lang and yung sa boston ko siya yung parang may dandruff. since pareho dry itsura paano ko malaman kung ok kung dry naman talaga and walang fresh wound?sorry ang gulo ko ba?hehe

^okay lang sis, nagets ko sinasabi mo. so nagskin testing kayo? kasi pag ganyang walang fresh wound tapos dry na ang skin, lalo lang madydry pag ginamitan ng harsh soaps. mas maganda kung herbal products ang gamitin para mastimulate yung skin cells ng bumalik sila sa dati. ang ginagawa kasi ng mga chemically derived products is that pinapatay nila yung mites, pero hanggang dun lang sila, kasi nga mga insecticide/pesticide yan, pero very harsh sila sa system ng dog kaya inaavoid na natin. tyagain mo lang sis sa herbal products, provide healthy diet, gagaling pa yan kasi demodectic mange naman and not sarcoptic, baka problem lang sa immune system ang dahilan. kung gusto mo makasiguro na walang internal problem, ask for blood exam.

Hello sisses! I just want to share here that our Jacobo's demodecosis is now in a controlled state.. Yay!!  He is a standard Shih Tzu. We will be bringing him to the vet on a monthly basis to monitor the skin parasites and make sure that their population is at a safe level. But we're now totally done with Amitraz, thank God! The small break outs have become manageable as they heal fast now that we know how to deal with them. His coat has fully grown back all over his body and he can now go back to having them long.. oh we're so excited!! I am so glad we never gave up on him, thank God for continuously helping us provide for his needs. They might be just dogs or animals to others. But for us pet lovers, they are our friends, our family... our fur babies who love us unconditionally.

for skin problems, try megadrm. it'a a vitamin and did wonders for my dog when he was young, he had a severe case of demodec mange (to the point that we had to cut off his tail, he's a shih tzu) and now that' he's older, nagka skin problem siya and we put canesten because he was switched to a special diet for his stones but unfortunately may chicken.

help! my one shih tzu has severe mange na ata..i just had his hair shaved na last week and had his 2nd anti mange shot. im feeding him acan lamb and apple and solid gold canned lamb. the vet prescribed us a antihistamine, brewers yeast and omega gel capsule. they suggested me to put amitraz solution din kaso wala sila nun so i need to get my own...

do I still need some other test aside from what im giving him now? di naman nila tinest sya nung pinagroom ko sa kanila kasi. and he still has some fresh wounds din dahil kakakamot nia kaya natutuklap lagi. nakakawa sya..I still have other shih tzu in the house pero nkaseparate naman sila..

^is it demodectic or sarcoptic mange? kung demo, its not contagious, sarcoptic yung nakakahawa even sa humans. mange is a sign of a problematic immune system, so boost his immunity para mas mabilis ang recovery. ilang taon na sya? pacheck mo rin ang blood baka may something sa organs. amitraz is a harsh product, try to look for organic soaps/shampoo para di madry lalo ang skin. give vits and supplements, taasan mo dosage ng omega/fish oil capsule. okay din ang vco. add meat sa food nya, lagyan mo ng e-collar, socks or shoes para di magsugat. Mahirap na gamutan ang mange and very stressful, pero kaya nyo yan extra effort and TLC lang talaga, I'm praying for his fast recovery

^ thanks! our vet didn't specify what kind e..I'll be transferring him to my friend's recommended vet..sa Central Park in Libis..they have a new branch in commonwealth daw kasi and she was their vet for 10yrs already..mag 3 y/o na siya on june e..

My yorkie started to have flakes. Vet gave her vitamins and coat shine and changed her shampoo. Hoping it will improve her situation.

Yung fish oil ba pwede yung pang tao? Like omacor capsule (omega 3 chorva cap)?
