^ Fever and rashes usually appear 1 to 2 weeks after MMRV or MMR or varicella vaccines. Symptoms usually last 3 to 5 days. The child is not contagious since it is just a side effect of the live vaccine. Please make sure to tell your pedia in case any side effects appear post vaccination.

^ Yes, having G6PD is not a contraindication to getting the flu vaccine.

Gusto ko lang malaman kung ok lang ba igala si baby right after vaccine as in same day.

Kasi sa Sat may vaccine sya mga 12 noon balak ko sana mag Tagaytay after bilang nasa Imus naman yung clinic or siguro MOA?

Ok lang kaya yun? My son is 1.4 years old.

^ Konting pasyal to a nearby place would be ok since generally, hindi naman bawal to bring the baby out to the mall after vaccination, but if the vaccine to be given has the potential to cause fever or irritability post vaccination, then I do not suggest bringing him out for a long time.

hi doc lelet, ask ko lang din po ilang series of vaccines po ang flu vaccine? my baby is 10months at binigyan sya ng flu vacc, then next month po is for the second dose. saka ano po advantage ng may complete flu vaccine does it mean po ba na di magkakasipon si baby or matinding trankaso or lagnat ? TIA

^ For kids 6 months to 9 years of age who are receiving the flu vaccine for the 1st time, the vaccine is given as a 2 dose series given at least 4 weeks apart. After the first year, it is then given as 1 dose yearly for all kids from 6 months to 19 years of age and to all patients who want to avail of the flu vaccine.
Dose for 6 months to 35 months of age: 0.25 ml
Dose for 36 months of age and older: 0.5 ml

The flu vaccine will only protect against the 3 or 4 strains of flu virus (and some cross protection with other strains of the flu virus) included in the vaccine so in essence, it will only protect against "trangkaso". The child or patient can still get "trangkaso" but in a milder form, with a shorter duration and with lesser chance for complications.
So kahit na may flu vaccine, pwede pa rin magkasipon or ubo or lagnat kapag ang cause nito ay hindi ang flu virus. Still, we consider the flu vaccine as a very important vaccine to get especially if you have allergies or other chronic disease or illness, since viral infections can also trigger other diseases such as pneumonia, otitis media, or asthma attacks. Also, children less than 2 years of age are more prone to getting the flu since their immune system is still developing.
Better sana if everyone in the household gets a flu shot so as to lessen the chance of getting the infection and transmitting it within the household. Trangkaso or flu is very contagious.

Hi! My pedia doctor offered me if I would want to avail the vaccine for Japanese Encephalitis (JE). Although it's optional and 2 dose lang sya. Anyhow, I'm still researching about it kasi first time ko pa lang sya narinig and I still don't know yun effects or its effectivity.
Anyone na nagpavaccine yun kiddos for JE?
Any thoughts?

^ We have a lot of Culex mosquitoes nowadays kaya some doctors are recommending the Japanese encephalitis vaccine. It is still not part of the 2014 childhood immunization schedule though. It is a fairly new vaccine so not much is known about long term efficacy.

Hi doc lelet, ask ko po sana if half dose lang muna papabigay kong flu vaccine sa 3 yrs. old son ko pag uwi namin jan sa Pinas ng June or full dose na po? Ang case po kasi nya, nung 6 mos. sya napa vaccine namin sya ng half dose lang pero dahil naabutan kami dito sa Qatar ng expiry ng mga flu vaccine at wala silang stock ng bagong delivery, di na namin napasundan ng half dose ulit. Tapos nung sumunod ulit, napa vaccine ulit namin sya half dose nung 1 yr. old sya dito ulit sa Qatar kaso pabakasyon ulit kami sa Pinas, yung brand naman ng flu vaccine para pong iba, kaya di ulit nakumpleto, pero this time magtatagal na kami sa Pinas kaya for sure na mapapa vaccine na namin sya ng kumpleto. Hi Doc, my son is already 2 years old and 5 months, yet hindi pa kami nakakapagpa Hepa A Vaccine. Will it still be effective kung magpapa-vaccine pa kami nun? How many shots nalang po? We were supposed to have it shot last month, kaso yung pedia namin said mas important daw kung Flu yung ituturok niya for that time kasi mas masususlit ang effectivity nun Flu na kakalabas lang daw (for 2014). If it were you ganun din po ba gagawin niyo? Kasi ayoko na sana ipa-Flu Vaccine si baby, parang napasubo nalang din kasi kami

Full dose (0.5 ml) na dapat ang ibigay sa son mo since he is 3 years old na. Since hindi nacocomplete ang required 2 doses, he should still get 2 doses at least 4 weeks apart for this year.

Try to back read for the differences between the 2 Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines so you can make an informed decision regarding the 2 vaccines. Please ask your pedia regarding her preference also.

I agree with your pedia that you should prioritize getting the flu vaccine at this point since the flu vaccine is a very important vaccine to get. Nowadays, kahit summer na, ang dami pa rin cases of trangkaso or flu because of the weather. The flu vaccine is best given between the months of Feb to May or right before the flu season starts in June. Patients vaccinated with the flu vaccine can still get infected with the flu virus but there is usually shorter duration and lesser chance of complications like pneumonia and asthma attacks compared to those not vaccinated with the flu vaccine.
The Hepatitis A vaccine can be given any time after the age of 1 year old. It is given as a 2 dose series, at least 6 to 12 months apart. Even adults who have not gotten the hepatitis A vaccine can get vaccinated with the hepatitis A vaccine. Walang deadline sa pagkuha nito.

^ The American Academy of Pediatrics doesn't recommend using the oral polio vaccine anymore since it has more side effects compared to the inactivated polio vaccine. Sa local health centers, though, yun pa rin ang binibigay.
The 5 in 1 vaccine that the local health centers give contain Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, H. Influenza type B and hepatitis B while the 5 in 1 vaccine given in most private clinics contain Diphtheria, Pertussis, tetanus, H. Influenza type B and inactivated polio.
