Just a thought, don't most schools require a doctor's certification for certain vaccinations before a child can be enrolled? So what happens to kids whose parents choose not to vaccinate?

With the current measles outbreak in Metro Manila, I am reminding everyone whose kids (6 months and above) have not yet received the MMR or measles vaccines to have their kids vaccinated to prevent further spread of the disease. It is never too late to vaccinate.


^ I am not sure how strict schools are here regarding the required vaccinations as opposed to how it is in some states in the US. Some schools, though, offer to give vaccinations to kids with missed vaccine doses. This is still optional, of course.

doc lelet, ilang series of vaccines po ba ang MMR? sa case po ng baby ko, sa Jan.24 pa po ang sked nya sa pedia nya kasabay ng well baby visit nya, pwede po ba agahan? kasi po sinasama na naming siya sa church service naming at via taxi lang.

Hi Doc Lelet... my 10 month old baby has been given the anti-measles vaccine when she was 7 months old.. MMR vaccine is still 2 months away so i'm a bit worried if she's protected or not... we live in one of the declared barangays with the measles outbreak... my eldest on the other hand is 7 years old and he has been given both when he was a baby? will he be protected as well? thanks.

hi doc lelet! may i know po kung ano ano yung mga vaccines na pwede i-administer sa baby? required and optional. i want po kasi to avail lahat ng pwedeng i-vaccinate sa baby ko for him to be fully protected. thank you po.

^sis, if I may.. May baby book ba si baby? Andun yung list ng mga kelangang vaccine ni baby and iniischedule yun ng pedia nya may mga boosters pa, my 4 yr old son hindi pa tapos lahat ng vaccines..

Doc lelet, 2 vaccines po ba kelangan for measles? My son already received MR vaccine before sya mag-1 yr old. May kelangan pa bang 2nd dose for measles or booster? Thank you!

M daughter will have her 1st MMR vaccine tomorrow and sa health center namin sya ipapagawa since its free naman problem ko is im 34 weeks pregnant takot ako na baka meron pumunta dun sa center na may measles na, im probably praning lang but if mahawa ako what could be the effects sa unborn baby ko? Also my husband never had measles can he be given measles vaccine kahit matanda na sya?

thanks sis ross24.  i have another question. nakalagay kasi sa immunization schedule sa internet yung 1st dose ng pcv given at 2months. but my son's pedia scheduled it at 3mos. ok lang ba yun? hindi ba too late yun? thank you!

^hi sis, i think ok lang naman yun. Ako din nadedelay yung pagpunta sa doctor hehe. Siguro yung risk lang is kapag nagkasakit si baby before nung vaccine nya.. Which is huwag naman sana.

Sis cerelina, i highly suggest na pavaccine na si hubby. Yung hubby ko kaka-measles lang and nahirapan din sya sa measles kasi may kasamang ubo un and baka nga mahawa pa kayo. German measles (rubella) yung delikado sa pregnant women pero sa 1st trimester lang naman. Maliit na lang yung risk sa atin kasi buo na daw si baby. May isa pa kasing measles, yung rubeola naman na halos same symptoms sa german measles..

hello po ulit. pag magpapaturok po ba sa health center kelangan kung ano yung vaccine na naischedule ni pedia sa next visit eh ganun din dapat ang ipapaturok sa center? like sa baby ko, scheduled vaccination niya next week ng 5 in 1 vaccine. eh since medyo pricey sa pedia eh we'll ask sa center na lang kung meron.

meron po bang chronological order kung ano ang dapat na iturok kay baby? or pwedeng ipakita na lang yung baby book sa doctor sa health center tapos yung doctor dun na ang magdedecide kung ano ang pwedeng iturok? kasi nabigyan na si baby ng ibang vaccines. salamat po

Pag sa health center pwede yung midwife yung mag sabi which vaccine yung dapat ibigay since alam din nila yun pero based on what I did I told thw midwife yung vaccine na kailangan ng baby as per her pedia kasi if not sure si midwife which vaccine to give sasabihin naman nya sayo na itanong mo muna sa pedia mo kung ano na dapat yung next na vaccine. You can also consult the baby book at the back makikita mo yung list of vaccines and time frame when it should be administered.

With the 5in1 naman ang alam ko meron sa hc nun donation lang yung binibigay. However with the hcs wala sila booster na binibigay like for example sa baby ko she had her mmr shot just this morning I asked when is the next shot kasi nakalagay sa baby book 2 shots dapat sabi nya booster na daw yun hindi daw sila nagbibigay ng booster kasi hindi available. Hindi lang ako sure if its just here or sa lahat ng center ganon, pcv and varicella vaccine are also not available sa mga health center.

i have same question tulad ng sa iba nating sisses. my son was also given measles vaccine before siya mag one year old, nakita ko sa baby book nya MMR schedule nya is on May 2014 pa, so okay pa din ba kung hihintayin ko yung May? o kailangan na pabakunahan agad kasi may outbreak na sa measles?

^ You can ask your pedia if pwede na ibigay earlier than the May 2014 schedule ang MMR 1st dose ng anak mo since there is an outbreak now.

Local health centers usually follow the schedule set by the WHO expanded program of immunization. If the schedule that your pedia prefers is different, you just have to ask the midwife if they can accommodate the request.

ross24 is correct. With PCV, pwede madelay ng konti ang bigay. Sa rotavirus vaccine, strict ang recommended age limit na finafollow so usually yun ang priority na maibigay. The 1st dose of the rotavirus vaccine should be given before the child turns 14 weeks and 6 days while the last dose should be given before the child turns 8 months old.
Try to backread for the list of vaccines to be given. I posted that in the earlier pages of this thread plus the link to the PPS information sheet on vaccines.

It is rubella or german measles that is harmful to the unborn baby, particularly in the 1st trimester when the baby's organs are still developing.
Even adults can have themselves vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. I suggest that those who have not had measles before have themselves vaccinated since there are also a lot of adult cases of measles now.

The measles vaccine given at 6 to 9 months of age is meant to cover the period when the maternal measles antibodies start to wane. As I discussed before, mas mabilis mawala ang maternal measles antibodies ng Filipino infants compared to caucasian babies kaya may extra dose tayo ng measles at 6 to 9 months of age while in the US, they start giving the MMR vaccine at 12 to 15 months of age.
So kahit na may measles vaccine at 6 to 9 months of age, dapat pa rin mabigyan ng 2 doses of MMR.

Ask your pedia if you can give the 1st dose of MMR vaccine earlier given the outbreak in your area.
Your baby will have some protection since he already has 1 dose of measles vaccine so if ever he gets infected, there is a possibility that symptoms may be milder compared to an unvaccinated person.
Did your 7 year old child get 2 doses of the MMR vaccine?

2 doses ang required sa MMR vaccine. First dose is usually given at 12 months of age while the 2nd dose is recommended to be given at 4 to 6 years of age (usual age of school entry).
However, in special circumstances, the 2nd dose may be given earlier than scheduled, provided it is given at least 28 days after the 1st dose.

Hepatitis B vaccine is the one given at birth, not hepatitis A.
Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended to be given at 12 months of age pa kasi, with 2nd dose after 6 to 12 months of age.
Pwede mo pa ihabol ang PCV if hindi pa ito naibigay. Rotavirus vaccine, hindi na pwede, since beyond the recommended age limit.
