I noticed that most of the posts in Part I, II and III of these GT threads are by law students and about law school life. It's great to hear about these and also to contribute, but I was also wondering if there's any advice about how to start one's own practice? or law firm? it's easy to team up with friends and get an office space and all that, but how about getting clients? any advice?

Hello, im contemplating on going to law school next year. Maganda ba ang MB-JD compared to LI.B? Which one is better? I have a degree in business & took some units in MSc.

Maganda pakinggan and tingnan ang JD kaysa LLB but I think it really doesn't matter.  Ultimate goal is passing the bar.

no such thing as studying real estate law only, sis... but there are books out there about real estate law -- compilation of laws pertaining to real property...

Hi sis, I'm currently taking a JD course.
Check with the university you plan on taking kasi the "JD" is a misnomer.
A 'true' JD course requires the students internship and a thesis to successfully finish school before permitted to take the bar.

Kung di mo type mag thesis, LLM is the way to go...though I think di masyado madami ang LLM law schools? Anyone confirm this?

Getting clients for a startup lawyer is both difficult and easy. If you enjoy joining many social groups or associations, them you can start with that. Build as many friends as you can. But not gimik friends but professsional ones. It takes time but you will develop a circle in a while. Be everywhere and take real time to be with people. It will be hard at first but eventually it will come.

You have to get experience first.  How?  Work for a few years, say, 2-5 years, at an established law firm.  Once you have gotten exposure in the field of law you want to specialize in and saved money to put up your own firm, you can set up na.

Getting clients is not that easy.  Clients usually want someone with sufficient experience in practice (exposure in a known law firm is a PLUS), who has done the stuff before and who can provide a good and sound strategy in cases.

meron ba sa inyo from PLM law school? I just have a quick question about recommendation letter,

PlM kasi requires applicants to submit recommendation letter from the Dean, so once na nirequest ko yun, si Dean na ba magssubmit directly kay Law school or pwede na ako na lang kumuha from the dean then ako mismo magssubmit nun sa Law school. wala naman specific instruction si PLM na immail dapat sa College of Law.

saka ok lang naman siguro na magrequest ng mga 3 copies of that since hindi lang naman ako sa PLM mag-eexam.
