^ minsan pati pedia problem... Imagine before kami lumabas hospital nag prescribe pa ng formula. Tapos nung nakita niya na may jaundice si baby, Sabi after a month pag meron pa formula na daw si baby. Buti na Lang humuhupa na jaundice ni baby. I am hoping baby grew and gained weight para may leverage ako.

^^anjfree, well that's the sad reality. Not all pedias are very informed about bfeeding. My baby was a bit jaundiced too but his pedia never recommended formula. Re weight loss, how old is your baby? Aside fromwhat marose said, it is also quite normal for babies lose a few grams the first few weeks. Nawawala talaga ang pagka-chubby then they gain it back.

@anjfree, it is normal for newborns, whether breastfed or not, to lose a few grams upon going home.  There are several articles about this, paki-search na lang.  Ganyang-ganyan nangyari sa mga anak ko.  Imagine preemies pa sila and very low ang birth weight nila (they weighed less than 3 lbs each) and they lost a few grams on the first few weeks.  Sabi ni Dr. Silvestre okay lang iyan it's normal and explained to me the importance of breastfeeding so nagpursigi ako.  Nakinig ako sa kanya kasi bukod sa siya ay neonatologist eh breastfeeding expert din siya (she is a consultant of DOH and the WHO on breastfeeding matters, by the way).  Nabasa ko rin kasi ang risks associated with feeding premature babies formula because of their immature gut, pati contamination risks which could be deadly.  And really, the thought of giving my super tiny babies milk from a can that is several months old (or even years na), packed in a factory na hindi ko alam kung gaano kataas ang safety standards, not sterile etc. was abhorrent, to say the least.

@honey_iya, I agree.  There are many antibiotics that are safe for nursing moms.  If your OB was aware beforehand of your intention to breastfeed, I expect that she gave you meds that are not contraindicative to breastfeeding.  May list niyan somewhere sa internet or sa previous threads.

Regarding pediatricians and medical practitioners who "prescribe" formula to newborns, shame on them!  They are violating the Milk Code.  Actually, you can report a doctor who did exactly the same thing to the DOH.  Puwede silang matanggalan ng license for culpable violation of the law.

^ ^Dr. Silvestre's clinics are at Manila Doctors Hospital and St. Luke's QC.  However, I think she is not seeing patients at the moment.  My five year-old children are now under the care of Dr. Resti Bautista from UP-PGH.  He was Dr. Silvestre's associate pedia and he knows my children's medical history from 2 months (when they were discharged from Madocs NICU) onwards.  He is also a breastfeeding advocate.  His clinic is at UP-PGH Faculty of Medical Arts Building.  I'm not sure if he is still giving check-ups and consultations in Dr. Silvestre's clinics at Madocs and St. Luke's.  He took over most of her patients kasi when Dr. Silvestre went on indefinite leave due to health reasons.

marose: yes, nun time ko hindi na accept si Dr. Silvestre. I was assigned to Dr. Armida Delos Angeles and Dr. Gatmaitan. also bfeedung advocates pedia and neonatologist coz Dr. Silvestre was on leave something. Both from St. Lukes QC.

moi: my son had jaundiced too. the neonatogist never stopped me from bfeeding tho tig 15mins each breast lang kase kailangan nya bumalik sa photo therapy nya.

if i may add, sa St. Lukes un mga resident pedias under Dr. Gatmaitan are strict w/ their advocacy abt breastfeeding. nun nasa recovery room ako waiting for a room to be available the resident pedias will go to you and will say mommy, ilatch nanaten si baby. talagang pilitan mega explain dun sa mga mommies about the benefits. if ayaw talaga they'll ask the mommy to sign a waiver na she decided not to bfeed. ako they did not force me coz part of my birth plan to bfeed.

kelan ba advisable magpump after manganak? kelan dapat magpabottle feed (with breastmilk).

tsaka ano mas magandang storage for breastmilk? bags or plastic containers?

^i pumped after 2wks i gave birth. puro direct feeding muna ako to establish my milk supply. i used the plastic bags when i am out od the house. mas better un naka plastic if istore mo sa freezer. kung dun lang sa baba ng freezer use storage bottles.

Maybe you have to change your pedia, change to a pedia na supportive of breastfeeding mahirap pag ang pedia not supportive of breastfeeding..

Most antibiotics are safe for breastfeeding moms, but to be sure always remind your doctor that you are breastfeeding

Sis lucky mommy,
If ref yes 1 week, If freezer within the ref 2 weeks,
If freezer na up down ref, 3mos . If stand alone freezer or deep freezer could last upto 6 mos.

I used BM bags na plastic, since it occuplies less space in the freezer. Re: pumping it is advised na you direct feed baby and upon demand for the first month to establish your milk supply, then next time if baby sleeps longer na you can start pumping
