@rene,

go ask an agent, the proposal would show you how
much of what you pay would go to the investment side.

But to answer your question, the first year charge for
Flexilink is 85% so only 15% goes to your investment fund
but it goes down and when the 6th year comes, it drops
dramatically to just 5%(95% goes to your investment)
until the 10th year. No more premium charges on the 11th
year onwards(not including the cost of insurance charges
that would be there until the policy terminates).

Also, if you pay more than the required annual premium,
there's a top-up charge but its small compared to the usual
premium charge so if you pay more, then more of your payment
would go to your investment. technically speaking.

I don't blame jeia kung disappointed siya.

Even my own agent "sold" me VUL as a better investment than MF because I had no life insurance.

Anyway I didn't give up the VUL as of now as having life insurance is really important, but I wished I insisted pa rin on getting MF and eventually getting a term life insurance instead.

For a protection driven individual with a temporary need for life insurance getting term insurance and investing the difference is a better option compare to buying VUL's.

But for the not so discipline Pinoy, it wont work! Especially that the insurance is not the kind of benefit every insured wants to avail. If you've been in the industry of insuring people and you've seen unimaginable financial loss happening around you, explaining why getting term and investing the difference is beneficial as oppose to buying VUL is a waste of time.

Waste of time? Why? Kakaexplain ka from protection to saving to wealth accumulation to estate planning, hindi naman pala interested.

Hehe

Just last week, I paid for all of my annual premiums in full. Hay, ang bigat sa bulsa. :| Hahaha

Plus I think ang maganda din na bayaran mo earlier in the yr, kasi your money "rides" along sa growth ng economy natin, as opposed kung later on the year mo pa ilagay when all the stocks are already overbought (expensive).

I texted and sent him an email for some inquiries, pero hindi siya nagrereply.

But when I texted him yesterday ng madaling araw, imagine it's 5 am, about referrals na may irerefer ako na mga tao , ang bilis mag-reply.

Haha! the client has the right to change agent naman. Pero sa kanya na yun.

Personally, Sinigurado ko din na adequate ang life insurance namin ni hubby since we have 2 kids. pano na lang kung may mangyari sa amin? I dont want to left naman na yung mga anak ko pagpapasa-pasahan ng mga kamag-anak. But when you left  a tantamount of money you are secure that they can go to college and live a good life. Hmmmp!! pang maalaala lang ang peg. haha!

You can also start investing in pure investments like Mutual Funds to supplement your retirement and childrens education. Yun naman, focus kasi noon is investment.

@swit_squiggle correct ka dyan! :) Better if may living benefit in addition to the life insurance.

At single pa ko and I'm not yet preggy either! I'm just so paranoid.

After reading some comments here, I kinda regret availing VUL. I think it's much cheaper than VUL. Despite all that, I'm still looking at the positive side of VUL and try to see this as a savings account rather than an investment plan.

Do you both know kung ilang percent na yung kukunin sa premium para sa investment from 2nd to 5th year?

I can tell you if you are talking about the charges then
Sunlife's Flexilink is the cheapest policy I could find
back in 2007 and again in 2010. One is for myself and
the most recent one is for my wife btw.

However Insular's I-Insure(Term Insurance) would have
been the cheapest but it came out a little too late and I
already got a second Flexilink. But the difference isn't
that big so its not a big deal.

To give you a background of how I "compared" insurance
products, I pretended to invest the difference between the
premium of the term/traditional insurance and Flexilink's
premium in a fund that earns 10% and I look at Flexilink's
return at 10% and compare who has the biggest fund value
at age 65.

Example for a 21 Male 1M cover, Flexilink's premium was
21,360.
I remember Pioneer life had a 1M traditional insurance payable
for 10 years only for 15k(I think, I don't remember the exact
figure)

So, I imagine that on years 1-10, I invest 6,360 in a fund that
earns 10% and 21,360 on years 11-onwards.

Then I check which one has the biggest return at age 65.

I only insist on getting proposals thru email btw and I don't
meet up with the agent until I'm sure I would be getting a policy.
That's why I was able to sample almost every kind of insurance.

Sunlife's Flexilink came out ahead every time.

Note that this assumes the same return on the funds.
Sunlife's funds tend to have average performance.

I encountered a lot of resistance from agents though..
I guess its a generation thing? lol

That's why I always ask for my agents my age.
That way they don't waste time and money to meet up
with me, and ditto for me.
