@katkat,

Awww, sis you're wasting money if you don't try to save
your policy.

Again, most of the expenses in a VUL is in the 1st few years.

You have to understand how VUL works so you'd understand that
you'd be losing a lot if you drop your policy.

With Sunlife, the heaviest fee-laden years would be years 1-5
Then after that, I think the only charge is 5% of the premium
for years 6-10 if I'm not mistaken.

That's for Flexilink. I'm not sure about Maxilink as I do not
have one.

So that means, even if your fund value(or what you call the
MF portion) is depleted, you only have to pay 5% of your
premium(plus the COI) to keep your policy current.

A VUL's fund value is not guaranteed so your question about
how long before a VUL is self-sustaining cannot be answered.

If for example you placed it in an equity fund and the market
went up up and away and you now have 1M for example.
But then the next year there was a great calamity that caused
the market to go down and your funds went down to 100k.

If you had asked your agent if your policy is now self-sustaining
when you're fund value was 1M, he would have said yes, but
as you can see, it can all go down the drain.

VULs are marked to market. Always remember that.

Yes, with Sunlife you'd have bigger premiums but not by that much.

Also take note that other insurance companies do not operate
like this.
You can say you want a 20k per year premium and you
can choose how much cover you want.

Sa Sunlife kasi, fixed premium and fixed ang cover/insurance.

salamat naman sis katkat na-save niyo. buti nagawan nyo ng paraan. gaya nga nung sinabi ko sayang yung inihulog niyo na and yung fund value na naggain na from your investment. hopefully, di na kayo mahirapan next time. maglaan na lang talaga kayo ng excess fund for the payment of premium. basta kung meron ka pang ibang questions, tanong mo lang dito. marami naman sasagot for you.

Sis Kat, I'm happy to hear that you were able to save it. :)

Just wondering though, why don't you talk to the agent that helped you open your account? So far, napansin ko kasi, lahat ng Sunlife agents are very accomodating and assisting for their clients just like the one i met. If you can't find her/him, i'm sure a sunlife agent would be happy to assist you on understanding your account with them. :) So give it a try, no one can explain your policy better than the employees of sunlife. :)

:'( almost 100k annually. bet ko pa naman to kasi sa ika-6th yr mo and every after two years, may makukuha ka sa kanila. Mukhang sa VUL ako babagsak T_T

@lady_cams if you're still young and single pa, I would suggest mag-VUL ka muna para ma-invest mo yung extra fund mo. yung elite peso 10 usually kasi para sa mga high and stable earners. you can start naman muna investing through VUL.

That's one of their Pre-Need products right?
How'd you found out about that particular product
btw?

It couldn't be from an agent because as far as I know
Sunlife no longer offers Pre-Need products.

And it couldn't be from Sunlife's website because
if you go to the Pre-Need section it clearly states
that they no longer offer those products since Mar 2 2010?

I would say very reliable and trustworthy this Sunlife, with their mother company back-up  guarantee based in Canada> if something happens to their offices abroad.

@chocobo the 15-day period begins from the time you receive your policy.

If you decide to cancel, you will get back the fund value of the units allocated to your policy plus all initial charges. You may also call the costumer service (632) 849-9888 sis para maconfirm ito.

It is at the best interest of the clients whatever is her reason why she wanted not to pursue the plan. An advisor will be the one to answer all the inquiries and hesitations of the client. Side by side she will help the client arrive into a decision that will benefit the client not herself whatever her goal to address short term and long term risks.

The credit paid to her is enough to be of service for the client as long as the policy exist.

Hope that help. Choose an advisor that is trustworthy, maraming alam and like what lee2ziyan mentioned someone you can easily approach. After all it's your hard earned money. Nobody cares on your money more than yourself unless you plan to give it away :-)
