ABOUT BEING SAHM
« on: June 05, 2012, 10:57:55 am »
Hello to all SAHM i am torn between to be a SAHM or to be a working mom. Please answer this po.

I'm just curious and bit worried. I am working pa right now but I am planning to stop working after 2 yrs from now. I want to take care of my daughter and to do household and maybe start my own business (hopefully). i don't want to give the responsibility sa ibang tao ang dapat sa akin like sa mga yayas or inlaws

I just wanna ask you moms out there who decided to quit their jobs to become a WAHM/SAHM.

What made you decide to do it?

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)

Do you have any regrets?

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

Do you earn your own money? How?

And most importantly: How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?

I am afraid na baka hindi kayanin ni hubby na issupport lahat and maybe mabored ako (pero parang d ko naman nakikita iyon from now) more on financial.

Prang survey.  :)

What made you decide to do it?

Una, like you, hindi ko rin maatim na iba mag-aalaga sa baby ko. Pero pag nadagdagan kami, maghahire kami ng mag-aassist saken, pero I will still be the main care taker.

Pangalawa, I want to have a kind of relationship that's like between me and my mom. Sobrang close.

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

I'm not sure lang ha, iba yata ang development ng child pag lumaking attached sa parents. We're conscious parents kasi, kahit ang childbirth planado. We keep on reading and learning from articles/books and other parents. With my 13 months old, ang taas ng sympathy level nya, madaling maturuan, malambing, with good social skills na sana magtuluy tuloy.

Based from literature, napakacritical ng first 5-6 years of life ng isang tao. Dahil yun yung base/foundation where character and personality will be built. Why? Because that stage is when a child most dependent, needy and cannot make it on her own. Unconsciously, it will affect how he/she will view the world. Pero syempre parenting doesn't end there.

Sa 13 months ko, based sa developments nya, sulit is not the term but rewarding. What more pag nag-emerge na talaga yung personality nya and nagmature na sya.

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)

My hubby earns more than enough for us. Pag nadagdagan, I'm sure magpupursige pa lalo yan.

Do you have any regrets?

Wala. As for my growth, I make sure I still grow spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and socially. I still love myself, the healthy kind of love.

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

Actually I plan to take a training and degree (part time lang, full time pa rin ako sa house) on couples and family counseling, GODWILLING. This year ang basic training, next year ang degree.

Pero my personal pursuit is not for income, but for sense of contribution. Yun yung gusto ko though a part of me, iniisip na baka nanghuhula lang ako ng passion ko. But for now, that is the direction I will take. Kung magwowork na lang din ako, gusto ko yung passion ko na (if money is not an issue).

Do you earn your own money? How?

No, I do not earn my own money, I own what hubby earns hehe. What's good about us is hindi kami madamot sa isa't isa. Actually ako madalas hindi magpaalam, bad.

I temporarily quit helping him sa business namin kasi nagfocus ako on being a mom and home keeping.

How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?

If you want to be a SAHM, prepare for a repetitive lifestyle.
Everyday, is homekeeping, teaching and taking care of baby, bonding with hubby, reading a book and articles, internet (GT).
Weekly is church time, group meeting with friends na members din ng community, family date
2-4 times a year, out of town vacation.

Good luck sa iyong discernment sis! :)

gusto kong makisagot dito. but my answers are personal ones. it will still be your's and your husband's decision.  :)

What made you decide to do it?
i've filed my resignation last year as my employer did not approve my 1 month leave for wedding preparation. but even so, i continued to work at home. ngayon, nagresign na rin ako sa work from home ko after giving birth to our son. why? walang mag-aalaga kay baby.

How does it feel? Sulit ba?
i won't call it sulit. i'd describe it as fulfilling for me as a mother. yung wife part kasi, hindi ko masyadong madescribe as husband is working overseas. pero last vacation nya, sobrang saya.

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)
husband earns more than enough for us. so for now, ipon yung sobra. ako naghahandle ng money since yun nga, overseas sya.

Do you have any regrets?
regrets? wala. i get tired too but i don't complain.

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

Do you earn your own money? How?
I don't. my husband's money is our money.

And most importantly: How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?
my baby keeps me busy every minute of the day. i talk with my husband everyday. i surf the net. i watch tv. i go out sometimes. i go to church. it's a routine.

@glamorosa.  galing. i like your posts sis.. may pagka-inspirational lagi :)

What made you decide to do it?

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

nung college and nung working ako, hindi ko maimagine sarili ko na sahm. sabi ko nun, para saan pa at achiever ako at nagtapos ako diba?looking back, nakakatawa yung mga pinagsasabi ko. ang babaw eh. siyempre that time wala pa ako baby. kapag may baby na talaga, maiiba priorities mo

sulit ba? oo. well at least for me. masaya ako kasi choice ko ito eh. minsan lang siya maging baby. ako anytime pwede kumita ng pera. anytime pwede ako maghanap ng work at magwork

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)

more than enough. hindi naman din sobra sobra. siyempre hindi afford bumili ng uber-expensive stuff. pero even so, i dont feel deprived naman. like i said. it's my choice .. it's our choice kaya ok lang

Do you have any regrets?

for now, wala. i pretty confident na wala rin in the future.
i put my trust to God na hidi niya kami papabayaan.
"i haven't heard anyone in their deathbed regretting not spending more time at work"

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

i dont see myself in the workforce pa in the next two years. mas okay sakin if business para sarili ko pa din oras ko. anytime need ni baby wala ako boss na pagpapaalaman. right now, im taking baby steps. nag-aaral ako for the business that i want to pursue. supportive naman si hubby

Do you earn your own money? How?

How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?

dami eh. wala naman kasi maid kaya super busy din. lalo kapag natapos playtime with baby. naku, kapagod.

para hindi naman ako ma-burn-out, may "me time" ako twice a month.. spa, malling etc. ganun..  si nanay ko nagbabantay kay baby.

I was before for 9months (my son was 1year and 6months then) :  and eto naman ang comments ko, kasi soon, feeling ko magiging SAHM ulit ako.. ;D

What made you decide to do it?
That time, i have no choice kasi bagong lipat kami ni hubby sa ibang bansa. And dahil wala pa kaming kakilala, no choice talaga kundi ako ang mag alaga sa son ko..

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)
That time na SAHM ako, okay lang, nakakaipon kami, then nung bigla ako nagkawork mas naging okay, then hubby transferred into a new company and he got a 3times higher sa dati niyang salary.

Do you have any regrets?
Wala.

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

Pag nagstop na ako, after 2 years.. maybe i will, kung may makukuha akong matinong nanny at work na katulad ng work ko ngayon.

Do you earn your own money? How?
nope.. kay hubby lang ako dati umaasa.

And most importantly: How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?
Waking up with a big smile..feeling secured na naalagaan ko ang anak ko ng maayos, at naasikaso ko si hubby mula pagising hangang pagtulog..

hays, i really miss being SAHM..

What made you decide to do it?

- before i got pregnant kasi nag resign na ako sa work to focus full time sa home based. reason ko is i really want to try working from home. sa field ko kasi (SEO, SEM) pwede talaga work from home, so when i got a full time job na homebased, go na ako agad,.. nagkataon na few months after ko mag work from home, i got pregnant.. so sobrang timing lang talaga.. malaking bagay kasi yung nasa bahay lang kapag preggy ka..

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

i agree that sulit is NOT the term but fulfilling and rewarding.. my daughter is now 4 months young and sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam na lahat ng milestones nya mula sa unang ngiti, sa unang pagdapa, unang salita na hindi ko maintindhan lol eh nawitness ko lahat.. wala akong namiss! never a dull or a boring moment! iba kapag nanay ka.. it's the BEST JOB EVER!!!

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)

my husband earns more than enough BUT i still work... work from home ako..

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce? - yes kapag 3 or 4 years old na si baby :)

Do you earn your own money? How? - yes.. work from home ako, and i have NO plans to stop working kasi passion ko yung work ko.. hindi ko kayang walang work.. plus nababalance ko naman ang pag aalaga sa baby ko habang work from home ako.. marami kasi akong arte sa buhay ayoko naman na pati pambili ng luho ko hihingin ko pa sa asawa ko.. even if he is willing to give, basta ayoko lang ng idea. :) its just me though.. iba iba tao.

And most importantly: How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday? - my baby and my work :) mahirap isa isahin ang routine, basta kapag andun ka na sa situation na yun, matutunan mo na..

masasabi ko lang, nothing beats being a stay at home mom.. iba ang reward na makita mo lahat ng milestones ng baby mo at masubaybayan mo sya habang lumalaki :) pero syempre minsan kasi walang choice kailangan talaga magwork sa office. :)

Being a SAHM has always been my (unfulfilled) wish since being a career mom means you're always at the mercy of your boss and can't always ask for a leave when you want to, or whenever your child needs you.

I just wish I could have the courage to leave my job and be a SAHM with maybe some online job on the side.

I was never a SAHM, but that did not keep me from being a hands-on mom.  I am just lucky, thank God, that I am able to incorporate my hands-on child rearing with our business activities.

But when we have set off our kids later on, and they take over management of their lives -- I will be a stay at home person with a reduced business sched. Then, I will have more time to devote to my personal preferences.

After I graduated from college, pahinga lang ako a few months, then sabak na agad sa office work, then after work, nagtu-tutor pa ako sa gabi . Ganoon na ang daily routine ko even after I got married. But everything changed when i got pregnant. Dahil super hirap ako sa pagbubuntis nun, I decided to quit my job. After I gave birth, I fell into depression kasi super mixed emotions. Andun yung tinitimbang ko kung tama ba ang decision na maging SAHM or not.....

What made you decide to do it?

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

Masaya na mahirap. Sulit? Oo. Masaya kasi iba yung nakikita mong lumalaki ng maayos ang bata right before your eyes. Masaya dahil iba ang developments ng bata. Pansin ko mas mature, mabilis turuan, healthy, independent.... Mahirap kasi minsan nakakalungkot din, especially when some people makes you feel na SAHM ka lang, na hindi ka nakakatulong dahil wala kang financial contribution sa bahay... Mahirap kasi minsan nakakabagot din sa bahay...

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)

He's earning enough for us naman :)

Do you have any regrets?

Sometimes haha siguro kasi pala-isip akong tao. Minsan kasi isip ako ng isip ng what if ito ang ginawa ko dati, o kaya eto naman..... But looking at my daughter now, napu-push back din yung mga ganung thoughts kasi nakikita kong maganda yung foundation niya dahil sa pagiging SAHM ko..

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

May possibility, but unless mabuntis ulit ako ngayon, baka mag-extend ulit ako :D

Do you earn your own money? How?

Nagtu-tutor pa din ako ;)

How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?

Graduate na ako ng diaper changing, potty training, etc. since my kid is already 3y/o. Now that she's studying, busy ako sa hatid-sundo sa kanya sa school, I do household chores like cleaning and cooking. I watch cartoon with my kid, play with her, read her stories kung sinipag ako ;D surf the net, telebabad...

Honestly mixed emotions pa din ako, kasi there's a part of me na gustong mag-work para makatulong din sa finances sa bahay, but there's this part of me naman na gustong masuybayan ang paglaki ng anak ko...

What made you decide to do it?

-I married and had a child at 19. So because I'm not done with school then, automatic SAHM ako. Pero let me tell you, it is my childhood dream to be a wife and a mother. Wala akong naisip na ibang "what I want to be when I grow up" but to be a housewife. I have successfully finished my degree last year after 2 kids and I am still enjoying being a SAHM.

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

-Super sulit! Masaya. Rewarding. Fulfilling. Tiring. Nakakahaba ng patience ;). Kids grow up so fast and I can proudly say na they grew up infront of my eyes. I have witness all their milestones, I was there when they most needed me, I seen them in their happiest and I get to hug and kiss them anytime I want to. I get to laugh like a child :)

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)

-My husband earns more than enough for us, nasusustentuhan pa nya ang parents nya every month. We get to send our child to one of the best school. We had our share of luxuries din and now he gave me our own home. Syempre we didnt get everything that we want pero we have everything that we need :)

Do you have any regrets?

-None. Makita ko lang na lumalaking maayos yung mga anak ko is something to be really thankful and proud of.

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

-Siguro this year or next I will be working na. Not because I need to, its for personal growth. I'm giving myself only 5 years to work. Nobody pushes me to work, and the #1 reason I still don't have work is because I am enjoying what I have. Dapat last month meron na pero I keep on delaying it kasi parang hindi ko pa kayang iwan yung ginagawa ko.

Let me share a convo between me and my husband:
Me: alam mo hon, ayoko talaga magwork. Kahit sabihin naten na for the sake of experience lang...
Wala naman prob saken kung ayaw mo, do what you want. Susuportahan kita :)

Sweet noh? Hehe :)

Do you earn your own money? How?

-through my husband's payroll. Jk!

And most importantly: How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?

-I live everyday spontaneously. I don't have schedules but I have routines.
-I survived my everyday because I'm happy being a wife and a mom. And through prayers.
-My hands are full because of my children. Sa kanila palang ubos na ang 1 araw. I cook our food. I tidy up our home. I made sure na everything's orderly (with the help of my yaya). But beyond all of that, I don't forget to have a "me" time and "alone/quality/sexy" time with my darling husband.

What made you decide to do it?
I used to work part-time while studying, so may time pa rin ako para sa anak namin. Nung nagsimula ako magtrabaho full time, my son's grades dropped at kapag umuuwi ako wala na ako energy kahit kausapin sila dalawa ng dad nya. I felt so useless as a wife and mother, so I decided to quit my job.

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)
He earns enough for all our expenses.

Do you have any regrets?

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?
Yes. I'm gonna work on our 2nd business. Actually inaasikaso ko ngayon yung business namin, may balak pa kami magtayo ng isa pa. Dun ako magwo-work, pero syempre hindi naman whole day kasi may mga tao naman kami na ihi-hire.

Do you earn your own money? How?

How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?
Pagod-pagod pa rin kahit sa bahay lang. Madami kasi ako inaayos dito, from budgets to documents, etc. I read books, go online, the news, etc.

What made you decide to do it?
1 month pa lang akong SAHW (wife pa lang wala pa kami baby). (1) Dream ko talaga maging housewife, I have been waiting for this for the longest time and now I am so happy na andito na ako sa state na to. (2) I wanted to spend more time with my family (parents, sisters and husband). Narealize ko ang worth ng family when my then-bf-now-hubby and I worked abroad. Naisip ko I am not getting any younger so does my parents, so better spend time with family. Small-time business lang to, nothing fancy, but still mag effort man ako and magbuhos ng oras sa ikaka unlad naman namen to. (5) Di practical for us to stay in the metro lalo't may newly build house kami sa province so I decided to maximize our house, not to mention the weather in MNL. Ang dami kong reasons, dahil di ako mag dedecide basta basta kasi mahirap mag give up ng career (and i give up ang source of income to say the least)

How does it feel? Sulit ba?
In fact kulang pa ata ang oras ko sa mga gagawin ko dapat (or wala akong sense of time management). Sulit na sulit! Why? I feel like a normal person as compared to my life when I was in the corporte world. I get to watch the news, sleep if I want, etc. The best part would be my convenience.

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)
Husband is working online as well. He earns more than enough for us, pero ang dami namen bills to pay (left over ng pagawa house, wedding and investments) pero currently I managed to save all of his earnings and spend my earnings. However, yung transition period namen ang dami talaga nabawas sa kaban ng cash namen and I felt sad about it. Pero he always assures me na investment naman yun and dadami pa din ang savings namen.

Do you have any regrets?
No, this is my happiest actually.

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?
Hmm, I am praying na yung business ko nag expand na by that time. Still working for my online employer (and pay appraised).

Do you earn your own money? How?
Yes, online work. Full-time. And the earnings of the small-business is mine daw as per my Husband.

And most importantly: How do you live your everyday life? How do you survive? What keeps you busy everyday?
Yun lang routine talaga, but I never get bored. Routine din naman work sa corporate eh. Pag gising ko sa umaga, eat bfast and linis konti. Ligo then work online. Cook lunch then work online. After will go to the store to audit. Uwi sa bahay and watch teleserye. Sleep. And same thing again the following morning.

What made you decide to do it?

How does it feel? Sulit ba?

It's more than sulit  ;)

How much your husband earn just to provide your daily need (food, school, utilities and etc)

My husband earns enough for us.

Do you have any regrets?

No regrets at all. Napaganda pa nga na nagresign ako kasi nadiscover ko na pwede pala kong kumita online more than pa sa kinikita ko when I was employed.

How do you see yourself in the next 2 years? Do you plan to go back to the workforce?

Maybe I will put up a business na lang to help other people na rin.

Do you earn your own money? How?

Yes. I am earning online.

hi sisses, it's so nice to read so many good feedbacks about being a SAHM/W. actually i am considering this now lalo na parating na si baby (first baby) in a few months. i tried to talk to hubby about this but he isn't 100% supportive of it (or at least it's how i understand his response). meron naman akong online sideline ngayon and also planning to start another online business or find a work-from-home job although i am not confident if what i can earn would be enough. iba pa rin kasi if mag work pa din ako. we get to save more (we just have to). in terms naman sa pag aalaga sa baby, we have our parents naman to look after the baby pero syempre ayaw ko din naman sa kanila i-asa yung pag aalaga. mas maganda sana kung hands on ako.

so right now, eto ako still undecided if susubukan kong i-convince si hubby. sa ngayon kasi, a part of me still wants to continue working after baby comes but who knows, it may change pag dumating na talaga si baby.

Just wanted to share this quote from the movie Courageous.. which I think is applicable not only to fathers but to mothers as well:

You can’t fall asleep at the wheel only to wake up one day and realize that your job or your hobbies HAVE NO ETERNAL VALUE but the souls of your children do.

When I heard this, it became crystal clear to me what I should do.

i super understand moms na kailangan mag office. minsan kasi kahit gustuhin mag stay sa bahay hindi talaga kaya e, kailangan talaga magwork.

True. Some don't even have the luxury to weigh the pros and cons pa. Although, minsan na-lulook down ang mga stay at home moms ng mga kapwa babae, but in reality nowadays, privilege na ang maging SAHM. Maganda rin ang work at home or sariling business, as long as it doesn't affect the quality of mommyhood and wifeyhood.

I understand too those who need to work to help their husband provide for their family. But for the pursuit of personal career success or the corporate ladder alone, in exchange of building relationships with your family, that I (personally) frown upon.

Like what sis maiandra said, it has no eternal value. In your deathbed balewala na ang mga positions, titles at awards na na-earn mo. In your deathbed, hindi mo na hahanapin ang mga certificates and plaques mo. In your deathbed, and hahanapin mo ay ang mga mahal mo sa buhay. At the end of our lives, relationships are what matters. But of course, to each his own.

^ maybe OT but share ko na din.. ang hindi ko naman maintindihan yung mga moms na palaging gumigimik after office hours, as in everyday or every other day instead of going home to be with their kids. most moms kasi na kilala ko eh nagkakandarapa umuwi dahil miss na nila babies nila pero meron ilan na inuuna uminom ng beer at makipag chikahan sa officemates almost everyday kesa umuwi ng maaga.. i wonder why...
