Newly weds, what name do you use now?

I just want to ask newlywed Girltalkers what version of their married name they use now.

I know the popular way is to use your father's last name as your middle name and then use your husband's name as your new last name. Like if your name was Anna Cruz Reyes and you married Jose Bautista, your married name would now be Anna Reyes Bautista.

I however would like to keep my entire name intact including my original middle name (my mom's maiden name) because I identify with my mother more. I will be using Anna Cruz Reyes-Bautista and if that's too long, I will use Anna C. Reyes-Bautista or just Anna C. Bautista.

I wonder if this okay legally and if I will have problems in the future?

Please let me know what you have experienced!

Eto din balak ko gawin. Ayoko din i-drop yung middle name ko kase I still want to be recognized as my lolo's granddaughter.

ako rin ayoko sana nung una idrop yung middle name ko since proud naman ako sa last name ko.. kaso ang haba ng maiden name ko tapos mahaba rin last name ni hubby.. nakakatamad lang magsulat. haha!!!

hindi ko pa-natry palitan yung mga ids and bank accounts ko so no idea pa rin ako kung pwede nga yun..

Haven't change my name yet... Dami kasi aayusin... hehe... Natatamad ako... Aheehehhee... Aayyy, hindi pala... I can't find time lang para mag-ayos sa ngaun... hehe... Isa pa, di pa rin kasi pwede kumuha ng NSO marriage cert kasi less than 6 months plng kami kasal ng husband ko... ^_^

In my case : First Name MyLastName-Hubby'sLastName

Discretion mo sis, kung ano gusto mong gamitin. Basta uniform ang name mo sa lahat legal documents.

Okay ang gusto ko kasi talaga is FirstName OriginalMiddleName LastName-Hubby'sLastName. Eh since super haba, I thought of making it FirstName OriginalMiddleName Hubby'sLastName na lang. I will be keeping my original middle name (which like many of us, is my mom's maiden last name).

I checked the Family Code and it doesn't say anything about keeping or changing middle names naman:

Art. 370. A married woman may use:

(1) Her maiden first name and surname and add her husband’s surname, or

(2) Her maiden first name and her husband’s surname, or

(3) Her husband’s full name, but prefixing a word indicating that she is his wife, such as “Mrs.”

Wala naman nakalagay na dapat yung maiden name mo magiging middle name mo na. Actually, it doesn't say anything about middle names.

Eh eto na nga, I tried changing my name on just one of my accounts and they won't accept the name that I want. Sabi nila dapat daw e middle name ko na yung maiden name ko. Eto kasi tradition natin sa Philippines and I think kung dito pa lang sa first account ko e may problema na, baka ganun lalo with other more important documents. Is it worth the hassle? Anyone experienced this?

I recently got married, too. Looking back when I was much younger, I was too idealistic. Ayaw ko rin idrop ang surname ko blah blah. But now, I realized that it's easier if I just go with what's "normal." So its Anna R. Bautista for me.

I first opted the hyphenated surname but since I am no celebrity, hindi na lang. Also, if I have kids someday, surname din ng husband ko ang automatic na gagamitin nila so complicated pa kung magkaiba kami ng apelido. Magulo pa.

To the TS, I don't think you can choose your middle name. If you go for Anna Bautista, Reyes would be your middle name. Magkakagulo sa records mo pag Cruz ang ginamit mo.

So I have kept my maiden name because my husband & I believe in maintaining and supporting our own individuality.

mag 3 years nako married. sa mga legal and govertment purpose, i use my husband's name. pero sa social networking, online, etc, i use my mainden name. gusto ko sana imaintain din yung mainden name ko kaso nagrequest din saken si hubby na maaappreciate nya daw kung gagamitin ko surname nya.

Hindi ko pa naa update ang name ko sa BIR at sa SSS so maiden name pa rin ang gamit ko. Gusto ko din sana yang hypenated names na yan kaso mukhang mas maganda kung yung simpleng format nalang. Hehe.

i'm using my hubby's surname na sa work. but wala pa kong updated IDs.  sayang nga kasi kaka-renew lang ng passport and US visa ko last year.

Sis ikaela I agree with sis tabbru. Mukhang if you use your orig middle name and then add your husband's last name, people would automatically assume surname ng dad mo yung middle name. Not because makitid ang utak ng Pinoys, but because there's no legal provision for it. The fact that it wasn't given as one of the options mean you may NOT use it. Just my interpretation anyways, pero hindi ako lawyer.

^agree, including the kids' situation.  Lalo na nowadays, kids have 2 or more first names. Kawawa sa school, hehe. 

There is another practical reason for not going hyphenated, brought to my attention by my US banker.    If you use Ana R. Bautista -- may better 1st or additional line of defense ka vs identity
theft.  What the R stands for  needs to be verified with you when there is doubt on the  part of
banks. 

Lol, I remember a colleague of ours -- she never used her maiden surname.  Then, suddenly she used a hyphenated surname  when a political relative rose to public prominence.    Only in the Phils.  Hehe

I initially didnt want to use my husband's last name just because my last name is really unique. But, it's part of the package so I compromised and hyphenated it. In all our documents, hyphenated lahat ang gamit ko.

Nahihirapan pa rin ako to use my husband's last name.  I started processing my SSS, philhealth and BIR for change of status pero until now d ko pa masubmit form ko kc hindi ko alam kung ano magiging pirma ko na ngayon.  Also, naku, pag nagfifill up ako ng forms, it's so confusing kc nawawala na [textspeak!] datin kong middle name.  Lagi ko pa rin sya nasusulat as middle name kaya [textspeak!] dati kong surname namimiss out.  Kung pwede nga lang  sanang d na magpalit ng pangalan eh.

same here, more than a month na rin kaming kasal ni hubby and until now, di ko pa rin pinapalitan legally yung name ko. (SSS, Healthcard, Pag-Ibig, Driver's License, Passport, PhilHealth, Bank Account Name...etc...) hays... hirap naman and nakakatamad mag-ayos ng hehe

however sa company ID, i already had it changed. i had my surname - husband surname printed infront of my ID. but my name sa email, di ko alam kung papa-palitan ko kase sobrang identified na ko sa maiden name ko, and baka mahirapan ako hanapin ng mga contacts ko.
