I need advice. Hayyyy.
Parang istorya ng past life ko ito!
Sis, hindi sa kinakampihan ko ang parents mo pero meron silang dahilan, whether based on facts, rumors, observations, haka-haka, o kaya ayaw lang talaga nila sa pagmumukha (ugali, etc etc etc) ng bf.
Let me just summarize my story to you. I had a bf that my parents were so against to. As in, kahit very close "family friends" kuno ang mga pamilya namin, behind closed doors, ayaw nila kay bf. Whenever I spoke to my parents about it, ang parati nilang sinasabi, either directly or mga pahapyaw na comments were, I could do better and I deserve someone better than him. Which I then just dismissed as over-protectiveness, sobrang taas ng tingin sa akin (compared dun sa guy), etc etc.
So ang usapan namin ni bf, was that to keep things the way they were and wag magulo, secret ang relationship namin. That was for more than 10 years. Ganun ko feeling na mahal na mahal ko yung guy and talagang I couldn't let go. In the meantime, we agreed to keep on working, showing our parents na maayos ang trabaho namin, we will excel in our careers, etc. etc. I even went abroad to pursue my career. BF established his business na up to now ang annual turnover is in millions. So in short, that side of the equation, naging okay ang buhay namin. Did it make a difference to my parents? NOOO... Lalo lang nilang nakita na I can be independent, I can make it big on my own and I can succeed without and away from this guy. Which was true and something I realized as well. Na I can stand up on my own without my parents and without this guy.
In the end, what made us break up was not because of my parents, it was because I realized (after I've explored the world out there, away from my parents, away from him, and other things that would influence my decisions) that I am my own person and that I was different from what I was when I left the Philippines. The person that I rediscovered in me made me realize ang differences namin ni BF (which led to the breakup) and at the same time, there were things that I was able to stand up to sa parents ko dahil I was stronger and more independent and I can make my own decisions na hindi nila influenced. When I finally got into a relationship with my now-husband, I told them about the relationship in as-a-matter-of-fact tone, not seeking their approval or anything. And I was confident that I could stand up for my choice of partner na que gusto nila or di nila gusto... And over time, my hubby gained their respect and love.
My advice is, don't jump on a plane to Australia to be with your BF. Give it time, give your parents the benefit of the doubt and try to be independent and show them that you can be trusted in making a decision. Hopefully in time isa sa inyo (ikaw or ang parents mo) ang matatauhan at makakatanggap ng reality.
Sorry napahaba.
