Do you favor the US Base come-back?

Just like to read people's opinion regarding this subject. IMO ~I agree, for reasons of practicality and national security.

Yes I'm in favor. When my dad was still alive, he was a US Navy for 45 years and retired as a captain. Whenever he was in the Philippines, their ship would dock at the Subic base. We're dual citizens and things are going to be easier for us. Sa naval base kase, there are commisaries for the navies and their families.

Anyway, I dont really see anything wrong with having a US Base here. A lot of people will prolly disagree wth me, but I dont really care. It's pretty obvious that we're still dependent on the US.

as for the WWII argument, mho is that whether the US was here or wasn't damay pa din tayo.

besides, we are not fully independent and self sustaining. so we can't afford to snub countries.

having bases here, well sure, there will be more activities. americans having RnRs, goods from the US coming in, opportunities for pinoys the join and serve uncle sam, ( i heard maraming nagka greencard/citizenship dito noong araw. you just have to join and pass selection)...

i remember that they pay rent. and they have military assistance. and of course deterrence.

but assistance is more of what? hand me downs? yung bang 16 F-16s na ng indonesia eh hand me downs?

blame the senators who voted against them. hindi ba't si erap yung promotor? jive din naman sa downsizing ng US armed forces noong araw.

but come on guys. mayaman ang Singapore pero dikit din sila sa US and Israel.

Yes I'm in favor din Makakatulong  ang pag bubukas ng US base sa pagkakaroon ng Civilian Jobs para sa mga Pilipino. Lalo na ngayon marami sa kababayan natin ang naghahanap ng trabaho.

May mga pros and cons ang idea na ito.  May basis naman yun mga senators then why they want the US out but it was timed wrong.  Sabi pa nga may unnatural cause as to why Mt. Pinatubo erupted then.

Actually, may mga non-official US bases na here but no one will openly admit that.  Though those with relatives in the military should know this.  Yun rin may mga sariling agenda rin sila.

What we must do right now is indeed invite more often the US here to train with us.  This way mas may faster response time if - hopefully - things escalated.  We are getting training with them naman wala lang tayo pa dinero to afford to buy and support the needed equipment and such for our AFP.  Mas importante pa ang mga basketball court and waiting stations kasi than protecting our resources and territory.

As for me supporting or not ay I'd rather have it we offer an exchange deal na lang.  You can use our areas provided you give/share to us a LOT of things that we need.  Thus, no need to ratify the constitution pa or what to make things happen.

This is true. there are these so called base within a base and some are... well...being denied kinda like the US' Area 51. There are ships as well in our vicinity.

as for the soldiering skills, i don't think nag kukulang ang sundalong pinoy. gadgets lang ang kulang natin and other military hardware, and of course, integrity in the higher ranks. anyone with relatives and friends in the military, specially the tier 1 type units will say na hanga nga sila (USA) sa sundalong pinoy. we are able to do so much with so little. but the sad thing is,despite the HUGE effort and creativity of our soldiers, limitado talaga dahil walang gadgets, hardware at datung.

but you know, these gadgets have limitations as well. night vision, gps, etc etc. there are a lot of situations where these things will fail or not work or not apply. I have a friend from a tier1 unit operating in the middle east. he always brings 2 non digital compasses with him kahit may gps sila. this is just one example. so it really boils down to the fundamentals of soldiering. this we have.

with exercises such as balikatan, pinoys get trained to use those sophisticated toys and learn to operate as one whole unit with their American counter parts.

I'm in favor provided the phil. govt imposes strict policies as regards toxic waste disposal, protection of women and minors at dapat gawa sila madaming schools sa community.

I guess this depends WHY the Philippines need a US base.  If we're on the verge of war, obviously, millions will die and we need help of some sort.  But having a US base wouldnt necessarily mean improvement.   I see it as the US, paving a way to the Filipinos.  Opening doors for us to more American support like education, food distribution, housing and family management.  I mean, there are more Americans than Filipinos, how is it that we, being tropical country with sugar, rice, tobacco and a lot more natural resources are always kapos?  The vietnamese have maintained the old ways of harvesting rice.  Indonesians are known for their coffee beans.  There are no rice fields in Manhattan or Florida.   There's something very wrong in our system.  The greed and corruption crawls worldwide.  Why are there so many Filipinos hungry when it costs so little to feed, dress and educate them?  (Sorry, I think Im getting carried away. )  So yes, please come back.  We need all the help we can get.

yes for development, security and practicality reasons.  although of course, sana they should act to respect us din.
