YES!... Nung isang araw bigla ko lang naisip sana isa na din ang Pilipinas sa mga estado ng US. Kesa yung pinangangalandakan natin ang Demokrasyang Pinoy pero halos wala naman makain at kapos ang oportunidad para sa karamihan.

Now that China is ever more becoming a threat to us, the US presence in the philippines is an idea that the government ought to entertain and take seriously.

hindi lang naman panlaban sa external threat yung presensya ng US bases sa pinas. isa din itong economic stimulus para matulungan yung mga regions na kung saan present sila, dahil ang daming mga externalities (soldiers' entertainment, food catering, greater volume of exchanged goods) na pwedeng mapagsamantalahan ng region na iyon.

i don't think that the US is that much interested.

i was able to watch a documentary on Taiwan's military and political status. they have accepted that there is always the big possibility of the US washing their hands should something happen. THEREFORE they are working very hard to build their military strength.

so huwag nang umasa Pinas na intresado ang US in having bases here (although there are already hidden bases) bases like subic i mean.

When the US sent 2 Carrier battle groups to Taiwan, it was a wake up call for the China. They leveled up in terms of their gear, equipment and tactics. they know that the US is heavily reliant on two things, 1) Satellites and 2) Carrier battle groups.

China closely monitored the US in the Gulf War, Kosovo and Irag/Afghanistan. They found that the US relies heavily on satellites for communicatinos. China has already displayed their capability to take down satellites by taking down one of their own a few years back.

as for the carrier battle groups, there was one incident where a Chinese submarine popped out of the water near the USS Kitty Hawk putting the carrier withing torpedo range. The Chinese sub was able to slip through the cordon of ships protecting the carrier, including the standard number of 2 submarines guarding the carrier.

China is also the 3rd country in the world capable of producing at least a 3rd generation Jet Fighter.

so China can't be easily bullied now or even threatened buy bases.

It does not follow na pag merong US bases dito sa atin, they will come to the rescue of the host government when the latter is under military attack.  The United States still upholds the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) signed in 1951.  There is no clear statement in the treaty that the US will immediately come to the defense of the Philippines.  Alam yan ng mga top brass military personnel natin.

Several US senate hearings have established that America maintains forces in the Philippines as part of its global strategy to pursue its own interest and to provide logistical support for its forces.  The US will only act or retaliate when it is attacked.

Its not simple to simply go be in a war alone but its important that we are indeed able to hold on our own.  Take for example yun need natin to sustain offensives on two fronts.  The US did not bother to assist us then as our troops fought the Communists and Muslim separatists.  It was our former enemy - the Japanese - who assisted us by donating much needed equipment - albeit used - to create ammunition for our rifles. 

And modern warfare takes away much of the advantages our soldiers are honed with.  3D na ang warfare ngayon.  Meaning combined arms na linked to each other in a level we have yet to get used to.  Well, attempts at this is being started na such as using GPS equipped bombs against the terrorists hiding in our jungles.

Plus, there is always the possibility that the enemy may have an ace or two that we have yet to see. 

Yun lang with that idea being floated around na maglagay rin ang US here ng sophisticated radar to help track ballistic missile launches ay mapakinabangan ba natin yun?  Not only is access to it in question but wala naman (pa) tayo capability to use any information derived from that.  Sana nga lang hindi naman tayo lugi sa future deals like how it was before.
