Pinagiisipan ko nga rin if I'll wait for PSIF or dito na lang kay BPI Philippine Equity Index Fund kaso my heart says PSIF.

Why would the NAV matter though?

@ eischied, based sa prospectus ng PSIF, may request sila to add more shares
in 2006 and it took 6 months before SEC approved it. Gaano katagal na ba?

i read somewhere (in PMT i think), since December pa nag-request for additional shares sa SEC ang BPI for PSIF. so pwedeng available na sya by June. pero if only nga i have UITF account with BPI (MF lang yung account ko now), mag-subscribe na ako dito  :D

The lower the NAV, the more units we can buy

i opened BDO Equity Fund and BPI Value Equity Fund and their new Philippine Equity Index Fund today. Unfortunately sa BDO di sila pumayag sa one time 10K investment then top up every month under their EIP, they said magkaiba daw so i end up opening an EIP investment na lang. imbyerna pa ako kasi yung ID ko i still have to photocopy outside mano man lang sana na iphoto copy na lang nila tapos i already have my downloaded forms which i filled up already pero nunka may sarili daw silang form eh pareho lang naman sa mga dala ko jeez...

Question lang mga sis kasi i wasn't able to open a mutual fund account sa BPI kasi kelangan daw mag-avail na ako agad ng isa sa offer nila they were offering me ALFM ok ba yun? para habang wala pa sana yung PSIF eh yun na muna, ang purpose ko lang naman is to be able to avail of the PSIF once na available na ulet pero sabi nila i have to go personally daw ulet sa branch nila if mag-aavail ako nun. akala ko kasi once na may MF account na pwede na mag-avail thru online to any of their MF offers. sa mga sis natin dito were you able to avail to their other MF without going personally to their branch as long as you have an account already? kasi may pinafill up an sa akin kanina na form pwera pa yung ni-print out ko na online application ko.

Technically true but then again, so what?
You can have double the shares but if the NAV doesn't go up then
its pointless.

So, in your book Philequity's Index Fund which is currently at a NAV of 4
is better due to its lower NAV?

First off, you should understand that the NAV is directly dependent on
the fund's underlying securities(investment) so the CURRENT NAV should not
matter.

But I guess that's human nature for you.. we tend to think that a lower price
is better regardless of the circumstances.

Take stocks for example,
Some companies with a stock that has a low price, i.e. penny stocks
would tend to do reverse splits. Basically, they reduce the number of
shares which would then raise the price of the stock.

People would now think its not a "basura" stock since it would now
have a respectable price. nothing's changed though, the company still
has the same underlying assets, business, etc.

I hope you get what I mean.

@ampere, ALFM is like their brand sis.
Their funds are all called ALFM except for PSIF.
Which one were you interested in?

I'm betting its the Peso Bond Fund though because
if I'm not mistaken, all of the other funds are closed now.

Its good enough, but BDO is better :D

Just a side comment on the BDO thing. I find it weird that they told
you that. I mean you should have opened a separate 10k UITF then
opened an EIP account. I don't see a problem with that arrangement.
Wala namang sinabi sa rules na bawal yang ganyan.

^Thanks for the tip :)

All I'm saying is take advantage of the newly opened fund while we still can. I'm not comparing anything with anything. Yeah, agree it's pointless if NAV doesn't go up even if you have plenty of units, but then again if it indeed goes up, then well and good. That's all part of the risk we're taking as investors.

mxherr5, sis, you made me realize how innocent i am sa finances. I was supposed to get another equity from BDO when my mom called me this morning that she opened something from BPI. So I was taking into consideration na kumuha ng BPI Philippine Equity Index Fund kasi mbabang nga yung rates. Then you said it doesn't matter and I hardly understood the explanation. Lol.

Pupunta na lang ako sa BPI mamaya para ipa-explain sa officer nila. I was happy with my BDO equity though nabasa ko dito you have to to have diverse investments.

Confused. ???

@mxherr5 im interested in their PSIF but currently close nga daw. pero gusto ko sana mag-open na ng mutual fund account para once na available na ulet subscription sa PSIF makaka-avail ako agad. i think ill just go back to BPI later to MF account will subscribe na lang muna sa Peso Bond nila  :)

Re:BDO weird nga nila i was willing to invest one time 10K then enroll it in EIP ayaw nila  :-\

sino pala merong BPI Save up + dito savings with insurance daw if you avail automatic na magdededuct sa nominated account mo let's say 500 every month. they will not give you physical atm card virtual yung account mo. if you will withdraw you have to transfer pa to your nominated account at dun mo iwithdraw, ang purpose daw nun ay para di mo sya magalaw lagi.

Hi ampere, yes that's weird. Because that was exactly what I did. I opened a BDO Equity UITF, then opened a BDO savings account para dun nila kuhain yung EIP ko monthly. I went to the SM Hypermarket branch in Tiendesitas, in case you still want to open one.

^im ot sure sis if they have index fund.

@sis caterpillar-girl dito kasi ako sa La Union baka di masyadong aware ang tellers nila. anyway sa June pa mag-start magbawas ang EIP ko i think yun na lang muna since nag-open din naman ako sa BPI. hats off to BPI on their online transaction service sana magkaroon na din ng ganun ang BDO para di laging hassle especially to OFWs like me para kahit nasa abroad pwede pa din mag-subscribe at withdraw thru online.
