nag inquire ako sa BDO last week, they didn't advise me to invest for now, coz mataas ang value, pababain ko muna daw, i'm very thankful coz lagi ako bad trip sa poor service ng BDO

i think mababa sya today, kung sa Equities fund ka mag-invest... you'll never know, kelan lang na-breach ang 6700 mark ng PSEi, nag-retreat ngayon

coming from this retreat it may have another leg up ang really breach that 6700 and stay

@bratinella08 ganyan talaga sila, parang nidi-discouraged ka pang mag-invest. pero maybe test na rin nila yun if you're really into investing. ganyan din kasi sila sa akin dati.

then last January, i tried investing in Philam pero sabi ng agent, hindi muna daw ipapasok kasi mataas nga rin daw and we'll wait for corrections. kaso, it didn't happen. naging pataas na ng pataas ang NAVPS and Feb na naipasok. sayang di ba?! so lesson learned, ayaw ko na mag-timing. basta may extra fund and i do not see the need for it for a period of time, go invest na! :D

It would be good to listen to leelou

Market timing is an exercise in frustration.
You should tune out the market noises and cost average
your way into wealth.
Slowly but surely.

hi guys! Im a noob when it comes to bpi investments. I purchased the minimum amount for BPI balanced fund last week which is P10,000. Why balanced fund? Sinuggest lang sa akin yan nung taga BPI when i visited the BF homes branch. Anyway, my friend  advised me just now  to  invest on BPI equity fund.  Question, I saw on their website na both are "aggressive". Naguguluhan kasi ako, pag aggressive ba pwede siya itago long term? Lets say paabutin ko ng more than a year.

Equity Fund is for the aggressive investor and is best for long term investment to minimize the risk.
Balance Fund is for moderately aggressive investor.  It's a 50-50 mix of bond fund (low risk or reserve type) and equity.

Tama lang ang sinabi sa'yo ng BPI na balance fund muna since you said that you're new in investing.

All investments are better off if they are for long-term.  One-year is not really a long term definition for long term investments.  We're saying 5yrs to 10yrs here.  Any of these investments can be redeemed once holding period is completed (to avoid penalty).  It would all depend on your target and needs.

We don't know what would happen in the future.  The market may correct itself causing our investments to suddenly turn negative.  Or we may experience emergency where we need that money from our investment.

Kung di mo naman kaylangan si pera, you won't care for those dips or emergencies.

bpi equity value fund?

my insights ba kayo kung bat ganon?

^--- it doesn't work that way.  there's so many things to consider why the NAVPU is different between the two. I'm listing some of them here:

1.  conception price is determined by the creator of the fund.  there's no rule that can say that a fund must start at price 100 or price 10.

2.  different time of fund conception.  it could be that fund A was already in the market since 2000 while fund B is just starting, or is only a few years old.

3.  different stocks being held by each fund.

4.  different number of shares per stock each fund is holding

5.  different amount for fees and charges

6.  different managing strategy of the fund

7.  UITF and MF are both open-ended funds.  there's no exact amount of shares or units that should be and can only be sold to the market.  basta may bibili, pwedeng magbenta ng share or unit

i suggest that you download the prospectus of each fund for you to determine which one is better than the other.  it is not the price, but the performance (and fees) that should be your deciding factor

hi sis thanks for the reply.

i was checking the prospectus while i was typing my prior comment.
actually yung sunlife nga mas better ang yields on 1,3,5 years as well as from inception.

Just to add to jmeangel's answer.

Basically, the NAV can be determined by the fund, i.e.
it can start at 1,10,100,1000. I haven't seen a fund with
a NAV that started at 10,000 yet haha.

The rest of what jmeangel said basically boils down to performance.

And a NAV of 1 is not "cheaper" compared to a NAV of 10.
What matters is how fast the NAV go up :D

Try to calculate it.
If you had 1,000 pesos and Sunlife's NAV was at 1.
You get 1,000 shares.
Now a year later, Sunlife's NAV is 2
Your 1,000 shares is now worth 2,000 (1000x2)

If you invested the same 1,000 pesos in BPI and its NAV
was at 100, you get 10 shares.
Now a year later, BPI's NAV is now 200.
Your 10 shares is also worth 2,000(10x200)

See, no difference. What matters is the ending NAV :D

Now with that said, to really answer your question about
why BPI's NAV is like that. Its because its probably the
worst performing equity fund around hahaha :p

Seriously

@powerpacfan...

maybe it has something to do with marketing strategy...
same principle why SM always sells it's item at 99.75pesos, hindi 100pesos kasi 3 digits na ang 100.  mahal!

masarap nga naman tignan na marami kang hawak na shares.  isipin mo ang 10k mo ilang shares yan kung 4pesos lang (2500shares).  samantalang sa BPI, at 140per unit, you'll only have 11.428units.  pero in the end, nasa performance pa rin, hindi sa price.

i even have a fix income fund with BDO that is now at 1700+ per unit.  isipin mo naman yan.  ang 10k mo jan ay 5.88 units lang.  pero hanep yan, araw-araw naakyat kahit pa less than 1% ang increase.

had to agree with mxherr5... epic fail ang BPI sa investments.  kahit iyong high conv-equity nila,  walang buhay.  bagal mag-react ng mga fund managers.  super conservative yata lahat.

I have Hi-Con EQ. After 6 months of holding 10% lang ang gains ko sa kanya while other MFs ko nasa 15% and 20%. Selling my HiCon this week and ipapalit ko yun ALFM PSEi.

I noticed that too. In 2 days, biglang bagsak yung value ng equity. I also need inputs regarding this. Plan ko kasi is long term investment kaso parang tuloy tuloy ang pagbagsak. Ang prediction pa naman dati is by election pa bababa.

How do you monitor UITF ba?

bagsak talaga lahat.  Equities are meant for long term so as long as you don't withdraw it's still considered as paper loss.  It will realligned after holy week. They said you can keep your money and withdraw it by 2017 yun daw ang next crisis according to portfolio managers of an international company

Okay.

Or maybe Balance. Maybe it's good to open today?
