Bank Equities
« on: February 27, 2012, 07:12:04 pm »

Let's talk about Equities (UITF), mga sis...  :)

Sino na nakapaginvest on this? Do you invest on different bank equities?  Do you watch them race and see which bank gains more?  And how do you cope when it goes down to negative?

Comments and suggestions, please share them.

 :)

I'm interested too, particularly with BDO and BPI UITFs. :)

newbie pa kasi ako dito, kaya im so interested to hear the feedback of our sisses  here...  ;D

10% sana yon pero bumagsak kahapon.  yong sa bdo naman, EIP  kaya maghihintay pa ako ng 3 years to know the return.

im planning to open equity sa security bank.  iba kasi portfolio nila, mataas ang fund allocation/equity portion sa financials, sa bpi industrials naman sila.    kaya medyo nabawasan ang yield ng bpi equity when pcor, edc, ap went down.   analysis ko lang naman yan, not saying im 100% right.    ;)

feedback about sec bank's equity, mga sis?

^ sis, depende yong sa akin.  may isa akong EIP kaya nagiipon pa siya.  5K a month.  Yong isa naman, bpi equity 50K.   Next ko iinvest, 150k.... but may nabasa ako regarding BPI PSEI sa other thread, so  I might opt that instead.  :)

bpi's minimum investment is 10k and usually has a holding period of 3-6 months.  pero mas maganda kung 2-3 years.  some would even choose to keep their investment more than 5 yrs.

I'm interested too, particularly with BDO and BPI UITFs. :)

sis, how's your equity doing?  do you also monitor your UITFs sis?

actually sis, i cant tell for sure.  pero if we based it sa site na to:  http://www.monitormyfunds.com/
it shows that bdo performs better. Pero so far, it's 8% increase in 3 months.  BPI is 4% in one month, it dropped another 1%  :(

Nice portfolio, sis - diversified by companies and by funds!  ;)

As of now, FAMI mutual funds pa lang ang meron ako pero diversified rin, like yours (Balanced & Equity). I plan to have PhilEquity next - same funds. I'm currently abroad hence I can't open a BDO UITF account; I don't have BPI online account, also... :( I'll try COL first but, I'll buy blue chips only para sure hehe ;D

I checked it now - oo nga, mababa ang BPI vs. BDO tsk tsk... Pero, malay natin babawi naman in the future?

thanks sis soumy. :) idea ko kasi sa equities eh long term yung tipong 3 to 5 years? or bond yun? bombarded ng info today.

@ann, like soumy said, its not a maturity period but
a holding period.

Mutual funds and UITFs have holding periods to
discourage short term trading as this would generate
expenses for the fund and would be detrimental to
the fund as a whole.

Its not a maturity period.

Imagine if you invested today and the fund manager
bought PLDT stocks. The next day, the fund's NAV
went up and you decided to redeem your units/shares
If the fund manager didn't have any liquid cash to
service your redemption, he would be forced to sell
his current stock holdings which means expenses.
Unnecessary expenses.

Now imagine if there was no holding period and every
investor invested and redeemed multiple times in a month.
It would result to a lot of trading expenses.

Its a simplified example but that's the gist of it.

oo nga sis, when i also checked their performance last year, mas okay ang bdo.  di ko pa nacheck ang sa ucpb, lately ko lang din na check ang sec bank.

regarding sa BPI PSEI, do you know sis if we can also monitor it online? It's more convenient kasi if we can do that as well as partial redemption.  I haven't tried ALFM pa.

BPI's UITF can be monitored online and there's a subscription option for AFLM online too
so the answer should be yes. But I only have BPI's UITF.

^^me too, ala pa ako ALFM and Odyssey funds.    if i can't monitor it thru my online account, parang hindi kasi ako comfortable...   Pero oo nga, may mutual funds pala nakalagay sa investment accounts, so pwede.  ;D
