TIGDAS HANGIN/ BABY MEASELES/ROSEOLA

My son is very prone (i think) to skin rashes.  (He's a healthy boy and does not get sick) At between 7 to 8 months old he had an HFMD, then heat boils on his head then measles.  Then last week, he had high fever for 3 nights and 2 days.  After the fever, rashes are again coming out.  Now, it's tigdas hangin naman.

^ Unfortunately, kids less than 2 years of age are really more prone to getting viral infections. All of the diseases you mentioned, except for the heat boils which may have a bacterial cause, are all viral exanthems. I suggest limiting exposure to crowded places. Since those are infections, that means kasi he got it from someone else or he got exposed to someone with the virus.

We seldom bring our son out to crowded places.  His daily activity is just within or outside the house, but does not go beyond 5 meters.  I don't allow them to go that far with our HH.  And yes, I observed that he had the HFMD a few days after his pedia visit.  He might have been exposed to the virus there since we always have our pedia visits on Saturdays, a busy day at the clinic.  That time also, from the clinic, we went to the mall, so maybe it was in there where he got the virus. Maybe also with the measles because they all happened on the same month.  For his recent german measles, it was a few days after we attended the graduation of my nephew so probably, it was there where he got it.  My poor boy, minsan minsan nga lang lumalabas, nadadapuan naman ng kung ano anong sakit.  Sabi ko nga chicken pox pa siguro hindi niya naranasan which I'm praying that he'll not have.

^ Was he able to get the 1st dose of the MMR and varicella vaccines? It would help to lessen the chances of getting chicken pox or mumps (the 2 infections he hasn't gotten yet)...
How is his response to bacterial infections? Sa viral infections lang ba siya prone? There is a time kasi after the waning of the maternal antibodies that some babies develop a transient decrease in antibodies (happens between 6 months to 2 years of age) then once they turn 2, their immune system starts functioning better. Also, since he got measles at an early age, it could also cause a transient decrease in immune resistance which would make him more prone to infections.

^ Hi Doc.  Yes po doc, he had his MMR at 1 year.  He has a complete set of vaccinations except for Measles since he already had measles a few days before his scheduled immunization.  He was even given Meningococcal Vaccine.  He seldom gets sick. Sinat lang kung minsan. At 1 year 3 months he almost has a complete set of teeth, 2 canines lang kulang, and they just popped up. No irritations or pain.  He had a low grade fever when the molar came out.  When most of his cousins then were having cough and colds at Baguio last December, my baby hindi nagkaroon.  It's just these skin rashes due to viral infections that he is very prone to.

^ Ok, it is good that he is up to date with his immunization. Hopefully, he doesn't get chickenpox and his viral immune defense gets better.

Ngayon po my 6mos old baby may tigdas.  grabe ang sipon at ubo niya tapos may diarrhea pa. 

Last week nagdiarrhea na siya, papagaling na yun diarrhea niya tapos nagka tigdas naman.  Sunday at monday siya nilagnat tapos tuesday nawala pero may nakita ako butlig sa mukha and matamlay din siya. Wednesday dinala namin siya sa doktor at dun namin nalaman ba tigdas. Ang yun diarrhea daw niya ay dahil sa tigdas.  Ang nireseta ng doktor is ORS para iwas dehydration.

Ang worry ko ok lang ba na nagfefever siya? Mga 4am kanina madaling araw yun pinakamataas 39○C. Base kasi sa na backread ko pag lumabas na ang rashes dapat wala na lagnat.

Doc lelet ano po ba ang need ko i-observe. Normal ba yun magka fever? Kelan ko dapat siya isugod na sa ospital. And tempra lang kasi yun pinapainom ko para mawala yun lagnat.. sa diarrhea yun ORS. Ok lang ba painumin ng gamot sa sipon?

Nagkaroon ng complication si baby na pnemoniA dahil sa tigdas niya. 3 days kami sa hospital and pinag antibiotic siya.

Anyways, ok na siya siya ngayon. Back in shape.

^ With measles, the rashes appear even during the febrile stage as opposed to German measles wherein the rashes appear during the time there is no more fever/afebrile stage.
Infants less than 12 months of age who developed measles are more prone to complications compared to older infants. Was your child given Vitamin A? Did they do serology testing to confirm the measles diagnosis?
Please back read regarding measles complications since even though he is ok already, there are some factors like developmental milestones which you have to pay close attention to.

Yes doc, binigyan siya ng Vitamin A while naka confine kami. 2 days siya binigyan ng tig dalawang bilog na pula  and kinuhanan din si baby ng blood sample para nga daw sa laboratory niya.  Confirmed measles daw.

^I feel for you missFB.  My son was barely 8 months old when he had measles.  Ang hirap. Read back on the measles journey of my son. Let's pray that there be no complications in the coming years.  I'm always closely monitoring my sons development lalo na at nagpositive sya sa serology test niya.

napa backread tuloy ako... will ask nga yun pedia about jan sa serology test na yan... hindi ako sure kung nag undergo siya ng ganun ang alam ko lang kinuhanan siya ng blood sample to check daw na measles nga yun nakuha ng anak ko magkaiba ba yun?

^yes sis, magkaiba yun.  The first blood sample was to check kung measles nga talaga.  For my baby then, the specialist doctor wants to make sure if it's measles or kawasaki disease. Then the next blood test was the serology. Serology tests are not done I think sa hospital.  It was the infectious diseases specialist ang nagparequest sa hospital to contact [textspeak!] mag-eextract ng dugo sa baby ko for the serology.

My 1 year old had roseola last February. He had a fever very high fever for four days (nag-febrile seizures pa siya a couple of times, so we decided to have him confined para ma-control temperature). Yung rashes lumabas lang on the 4th day after mawala fever niya. By the 5th day, di ko na nakikita yung rashes.

^ Yes, Roseola may be diagnosed based on signs and symptoms alone. No need for serology tests to confirm diagnosis.

Mabilis pala syang mag clear up, parang magic. Hehe. Ooops sorry, i didnt mean to make light of this condition. We were expecting kasi for the worse, na measles yung sa nephew ko, but it turned out to be roseola "only" kaya it was big sigh of relief for all of us.

Help po. 7 mons old na si baby, and last he had fever for three days. Suddenly, rashes appeared on his face spreading on his neck and chest. Dinala na namin siya sa ospital kanina, sabi naman ng pedia niya  hindi naman daw yun measles?! Kasi daw hindi daw siya nilalagnat, kung measles daw kasi to, lalagnatin daw siya habang may mga rashes siya. Naguguluhan ako.
Ganon ba yun? Hindi parin ako kuntento sa sagot niya. Hindi din daw to dengue.

^ So what was the diagnosis given to your baby?
With Measles kasi, the rashes will appear while the child still has fever as opposed to German measles or Roseola or other types of viral exanthems wherein the rashes usually appear once there is no more fever. With German measles as well as Roseola, there will be 3 days of fever then once the fever ends, that's the time, the rashes will appear. Measles is a different disease compared to German Measles or Roseola.
Try to back read for more information. You can also bring your child to a different pedia for second opinion if there was no definite diagnosis given at the hospital.
