hi, newbie here and new mommy as well. my baby is currently in the NICU kasi kailangan niya matutukan ng billi light because of jaundice. nagkaganito na din ba babies niyo? ilang days tinagal nila? namimiss ko na kasi baby ko, 12 days old pa lang siya. and, hindi na ba pwede mag-breastfeed since isang factor yun kaya medyo nanilaw siya lalo? TIA for your replies.  :(

tiarayeksayey :

Hi sis! congrats on your new baby and welcome to GT! :)

Habang present pa yung jaundice you cant breastfeed pa for the meantime para ma-rule out ng doctors what causes your baby's jaundice. Jaundice is pretty common in newborns sis however it should go away within a week, have you talked na to the doctor sis if they have impressions na on what causes it?

Expect bloodworks/testings for baby, that would benefit naman your baby in the long run para mas mabilis siya gumaling. Cheer up sis, you are blessed, and pray for the quick recovery of your baby. :)

Will include your baby sa prayers ko also. <3<3<3

Grabe ba ang jaundice niya? Nung first baby ko medyo nagyellow rin si baby dahil breastfeeding, pero ang sabi lang naman sakin is to bring him outside everyday during the early morning para maarawan. Nawala naman after a while yung jaundice niya.

hi sisses! i just want to share with you my baby's story, my baby also undergo phototherapy kasi nagjaundice sya 2 days after ko manganak last May, then um ok yung bilirubin nya bumaba ng konti, inadvise ng pedia nya na paarawan na lang since nga normal lang sa mga newborn ang nagjaundice til 1 month, medyo nawala sya, then yung monthly check up nya nung 2 months na sya nagpersist yung jaundice mas nakikita namin sa mata nya, nung 1 month naman sya konti lang sa face nya ang nanotice ko madyo naalarm ang pedia ng baby ko kasi its not normal na may paninilaw pa rin after 2 months, ayun na my baby undergo several blood tests to end up with the result na may cholestasis sya meaning may problem sa liver nya dont know lang whats the diagnosis, we sought the help of a pedia gastro na [textspeak!] naman sa min dito sa laguna i browse the internet para malaman san may espesiyalista.. sa manila pa kami nag paconsult, nakakaawa si baby kasi parati kinukunan ng blood at seriously di konting blood ang kinukuha sa kanya.

last month he undergo liver biopsy to rule out if its biliary atresia (scary) or neonatal hepatitis, we desperately prayed na hepa na lang kesa sa biliary atresia kasi 3 months na sya nun dapat kung atresia mag undergo na dapat ang baby ng surgery 8 weeks old below kung hindi poor prognosis na talaga.. at isa pa mas madali itreat ang hepa kesa atresia at napakamahal ng operation pati, and we leave no other choice kung papipiliin neither of the two di ba, mabuti na lang nga at hepatitis ang condition nya, his doctor prescribed meds and most especially vitamins, nawala ang jaundice ng baby ko ng halos 3x ko pa lang pinapainom ng mga vitamins nya, thank God talaga, his liver now is recovering wala naman pamamaga at yung sgpt level nya is lowered to half though di pa talaga nasa within normal ang result at least daw maraming nakikitang changes, we are praying continously na maresolve on its own at maging healthy na talaga liver nya. scary talaga pinagdaanan ng baby all the blood tests and the biopsy na naka general anesthesia sya, ni hindi ko maisip kung pano nakayanan ng baby ko ang lahat ng yun.. now talaga his very active and happy, lagi na syang nakasmile at 4 months old..
continue feeding your baby with breastmilk, ako nagsisi kasi diniscontinue ko feeding kaya yun nawala na yung milk ko kala ko kasi yun jaundice nya is due to my milk at kahit yun pa ang cause mas magandang ituloy pa rin yun mas benefial kay baby, hope your baby will be well soon.. :)

Was assigned in the NICU a lot of times back in college sis and ang normal na span ng time for a newborn to have jaundice is about a week or two, anything more than that, medyo naka-alert na sa doctors kaya usually if yung paninilaw still wont go away after, say 2 weeks, naka-ready na agad yung mga tests na gagawin sa baby to determine the cause ng paninilaw.

My baby had jaundice too. We had him undergo phototherapy but room in baby ko so inside our room dinala yung phototherapy para continuous breastfeeding.. But ang tagal and nafrfrustrate so pinacup feed nalang then buong time nag pupump nalang ako para hindi mawala yung milk.

Later on we found out its breastmilk jaundice kasi 1 month plus na mataas pa rin bilirubin nya then we had him take formula for three days then drastic ang pagbaba ng bilirubin.. So ayun buti nalang now ok na :-) pero medyo nagitim baby kasi oinapaarawan namin before we didnt know it was breastmilk jaundice..

hi sis! i understand your dilemma.

my baby also had jaundice within 48 hours after his delivery due to infection dahil nagkaroon ako ng premature rupture ng water bag. i have been leaking na pala for almost 24 hours! na-CS ako dahil dito kasi dapat ma-deliver si baby within 6 hours.

nakaka-stress talaga lalo na kapag nakikita mong madaming tests ginagawa sa newborn mo. pinag-breastfeed ako ng pedia ni baby kasi it was not the reason why may jaundice siya. btw, naka-room in siya sa akin kaya my hubby and i were really hands on sa pag-aalaga kay baby.

inexplain niya sa akin na dahil sa infection, tumaas ang bilirubin level ni baby. he underwent phototherapy and lagi siyang tinutusukan ng anitbiotic. hindi ko napipigilan maiyak everytime nakikita ko iyon. lalo na noong pinag-dextrose siya! my heart was shattered into pieces pero alam ko naman na it's for the best.

one week kami sa hospital pero it felt longer than that. sa bahay, lagi rin siya pinapag-sunshine for 20-30 minutes para mawala iyong pag-yellow ng skin niya. thank goodness, sa ngayon, super healthy na ng color ni baby (medyo tan, mana sa daddy LOL) and very malikot na siya. at two months, he's nearing 12lbs! ;)

ask your pedia kung ano reason ng jaundice. kung hindi naman breastfeeding jaundice, much better if magbreastfeed kasi katulad ng sa situation namin, mas inadvice na magbreastfeed ako para ma-excrete iyong bilirubin sa poops niya. i'll pray for your baby's quick recovery. kaya mo iyan sis! God bless.

my son also when I gave birth medyo madilaw face niya lalo yung eyes niya. since sa abroad ko siya pinanganak at walang sunshine doon his doctor gave him D Visol ( vit.D) since 1st time mom di ako aware sa ganun pero nabanggit ko sa doctor niya na kung bakit madilaw eyes niya sabi normal lang daw yon after a month mawala din daw yon.

i gave birth last september and after three days saka lumabas paninilaw ni baby. During those times bumababa ako every 2 hrs pra magpa breastfeed.  btw I was on emergency CS. And advice ng pedia is continuous paarawan. Now, baby is very health. Thank you Lord.

gave birth last november 2013 to a baby boy..
a day after ko manganak, na check ng pedia na madilaw si baby.. so agad agad pina blood test siya and dinala na sa nicu for photo therapy..
sobra ako nalungkot nun kasi pwede na sana kami umuwi that day dahil i was normal delivery pero m

question po, kase its been 2days ng cloudy kaya wala man lang sun rays na umaabot sa place namin.
okay lang po ba yun? even without direct sunlight gumagana padin po ba yung therapy nya?

thanks much!

^sis, based on my understanding from our pedia there has to be sunlight coming through the window of u don't want to bring your baby outside the house. Better too If skin is exposed just make sure eyes and genitals are covered.

My baby was born with jaundice due to ABO blood type incompatibility. We stayed 6 days in the hospital I think. He was in nicu the whole time. When his bilirubin levles started dropping though not yet Normal, we were discharged but need sunlight exposure for a month. Buti na Lang summer when baby was born. It took over a month though before the yellowish pigments disappear on skin and eyes.

Reopening this thread.

^Continue lang sis with the sunlight exposure. We just continued with the sunlight exposure. Nawala din eventually.

Oh, are you breastfeeding? The pedia asked me to stop breastfeeding for 2 days lang naman.

pinaarawan namin sya from the day na nilbas namin sya ospital til 1 month. Tapos sabi after ilang days lang daw wala na, nung 1 month meron pa din pinacheck ko uli sa pedia. baby went through a lot of tests, blood tests, and ultrasound, lahat negative naman sa anong sakit. Mix feeding ako pero I breastfeed my baby. our pedia said it could be a factor yung gatas ko pero she didn't want me to stop, so una yung mga tests, tska irule out yung gatas ko.

ilang weeks bago naging ok skin ni baby mo?

^ i was advised by my OB na may possibility na ganyan si baby namen. 38 weeks preggy now and I'm type O and hubby is AB.

^^a little over a month na si baby bago nawala yung paninilaw. When he was born kasi hindi din lagi maaraw e so may days na hindi namin naeexpose sa sunlight.
