Let's Talk Ovens
« on: September 08, 2011, 09:13:15 am »
With so many choices for ovens these days, I wonder which one works best for you and your cooking/baking needs?

Gas ovens I think is the most cost-efficient, but then again when I browsed several cooking/baking blogs, a lot of good things has been said about electric/convection type ovens.

Maybe in this thread we can discuss the types of oven we use, the pros and the cons, etc.

I'm in the process of buying my first oven, eyeing the La Germania one:
http://www.lagermania.com.ph/SL-155_40WT.htm
I am eyeing this one as this will fit my needs in the long run as I plan to bake as a sideline.

Anyone else using this type of oven? What are your thoughts about it?

TIA!

La Germania is really a good oven. our family is using this brand for years and i also use this for baking. this brand is quite expensive but i think its worth it.

i prefer gas oven more than convection oven. mas ok yung quality ng food pag sa gas oven. since heat is equaly distributed :)

i think the la germania brand is a good buy. not really high end, but not cheap either. perfect for home bakers. :)

i also have yet to decide whether to  get the la germania gas table top oven, but yet undecided whether i can manage it without a timer. but then again, i think i can buy a separate timer naman.

Im also looking for an oven. Our old La Germania is no longer working. Sis, nacheck mo na ba how much this oven is? TIA  ;D I'm actually eyeing the one I saw in Abenson last week, Fujidenso which is around 17k.

^thanks sis! ako naman gas oven talaga hanap ko. we have electric pero tumaas yung bill namin eh. hindi naman masyado pero it matters pa rin lalo na plan kong gawing sideline yung baking. saka mini oven lang yun so magastos talaga kung paisa-isang tray lang. grabe, it's been years! college pa ko nagbake sana marunong pa ko ngaun. hehe  ;D

good luck to us all. same din sakin, gas oven talaga because i don't think it will be practical to use an electric oven for business. well not unless big time baker siguro. hehe. the only thing i'm worried about is that the la germania gas tabletop oven only has 1 dial (switch)..i guess i would need to buy a thermometer. pano rin kaya yun sinisindihan ano? haha!

I just called my cousin who is selling La Germania Oven...he said mas okay daw magluto ang electric oven mas mipo but kawawa ka talaga sa kuryente kaya gas oven na lang since presyong pinsan naman ang give niya sa akin.

I wonder if there's any store here selling Delonghi, Pensonic or Elba table top ovens. From what I see online, parang puro La Germania lang. Meron kasi akong nakita sa isang Malaysian online store na bigger capacity table top ovens compares sa 3D or Imarflex natin na hanggang 28L lang ata ang biggest. Para sakin kasi, I need more like maybe 42-50L sana. Meron pa nga dun, 50L elba is around 6k pesos lang satin. Sigh.

Here's the Elba I saw:
http://www.elba.com.my/sa-electricoven-EO5086.htm?a=16

It consumes 200w more than the Imarflex 28L, but for the effort, time and energy, I'm sure it's well worth it. Sana meron din nyan dito.

I have that La Germania tabletop oven in o4c's link, but mine has 2 burners on top. well, i feel like i'm starting to outgrow it now kahit wala pa akong home baking biz. if i'm making muffins the pans in the middle rack overlap so i have to be careful about the edge of one pan touching the edge of the muffin. i also don't like the fact that if i'm baking cakes in pans that are quite tall, medyo alanganin yung positioning ng middle rack, so the tops of the cake pans in the middle touch the bottom of the upper rack. there's a limit kasi to the adjustability of the racks. minsan i'm only able to use the top rack.

in terms of how evenly it cooks, even naman yung heat, although i can't put anything on the bottom rack kasi that's the hottest part. one quirk i've noticed is, pag bagong bili yung lpg ko, kahit nasa lowest setting (#1) yung heat ang lakas niya, almost as hot as the next higher setting (2 or 3). you definitely need an oven thermometer. pero mga sis, kahit naman sa higher end ovens you'd still need a thermometer. mura naman ito, i think you can get one for as low as 150-200. hindi talaga reliable yung susundin mo yung setting sa knob ng oven.

ayun lang. i wish it were bigger, but i'm mostly happy with it.
