Hi Sisses! Ask ko lang kung nicheck nyo yung interest ng accounts nyo last month. Diba every end of the month ang pasok nun?

BPI had lowered the bonus interest from 1% to 0.5%
effective Feb 15th(I think, you can check BPI's website
to be sure)

BSP controls the interest rates. Walang control masyado ang mga banks on that one. Minsan tataas, minsan bababa ang interest rates as dictated by BSP. It has to be para macontrol effectively ang inflation at ma-stabilize ang currency.

Observe well. Di lang BPI ang nagbaba ng interest sa deposits at this time. Pati rin sa ibang mga bangko.

Uy, I beg to differ.

Control is such a strong word to use in this situation.
BSP cannot force a bank to maintain a given interest rate,
otherwise there would be no free market and all banks would
offer the same rate and one of the mechanisms for a bank to
attract a potential deposit(i.e. thru higher interest rates) would
be lost to them.

What BSP does is it "INFLUENCES" the banks to do what it wants.

If you want a more technical explanation, you can check BPI's
site at http://www.bsp.gov.ph/financial/open.asp

PDIC coverage is 500k per person per bank. So if you have a Maxi-Saver na 500k and another Savings with BPI also na 250k, you are still only covered ng 500k. Kasi per person per bank sya, not per account.

What my Dad did was to put some of his money in my name para covered... true enough, nag-close yung bank na yun, pero nakuha nya lahat ng pera nya through PDIC kasi he put the amount beyond 500k under my name.

thanks sa info sis! will take note of that.

^thanks sis! will check BPI's site

@ kirei_me: sorry sis for the late reply, what do you mean by request?

@ miss resilient: i also have 2 separate accounts, maxisaver and savings account, pero mas lumiit interest rate kaya im just maintaining my maxisaver, sis i agree, aralin mo muna ang stocks before investing, i have stocks but i didn't enroll it in BPI. Or if you want your money to earn more thru banks, ask BPI about SDA, mutual funds & UITF.

regular BPI, BPI Family and BPI Direct... BPI Family and BPI Direct are subsidiaries of that regular BPI.

I'm not sure of the reasons why they want subsidiaries... probably cater to different bank purposes (regular BPI being a universal bank which handles corporate accounts, while BPI Family is a savings bank that focuses on individuals and BPI Direct is a savings bank that focuses on OFWs)... or that they wanted to target different demographic (regular BPI attracts people with high and medium income, while BPI Family attracts people with medium to low income... but even a high income individual can choose to invest in BPI Family to take advantage of higher interest rates).

With regards as to kung alin ang pinaka-OK? It depends on your purpose of maintaining a deposit. Universal banks such as that regular BPI branches are very stable banks (they are far from ever running into bankruptcy) while savings banks such as BPI Family and BPI Direct will always be riskier (however, I believe that for BPI Family and Direct, they won't also easily close because they are operating as subsidiaries of the main bank). If you want to be sure that your money is secured - go for the regular BPI... but if you want higher interest rates at the expense of keeping your money secured - go for BPI Family or BPI Direct.

Pag BPI payrolls usually anong klaseng BPI bank yun?

Those accounts are generally opened with regular BPI.
