i have an International account with BPI Family and planning to open a Maxi-Saver account. based sa website kasi ng BPI:

Maxi-Saver with ATM BPI Direct:
50K-299,999 = 1% Interest rate (per annum)
300K-499,999 = 1.125% Interest rate (per annum)
500K-999,999 = 1.25% Interest rate (per annum)

Maxi-Saver with ATM BPI Family:
25K-299,999 = 1.125% Interest rate (per annum)
300K-499,999 = 1.25% Interest rate (per annum)
500K-999,999 = 1.375% Interest rate (per annum)

lahat sila with 1% BONUS p.a. if no withdrawal within a month.

when i inquired at BPI Direct Enterprise Center last week to confirm, tama naman yung rates na sinabi nila. try ko rin mag inquire sa BPI Family to confirm the rates.

^ talaga sis? Mas ok yun since may BPI Family Account na ko. Good news to me.

i correct ko lang, for Maxi-Saver with ATM BPI Direct:

Maxi-Saver with ATM BPI Direct:
25K-299,999 = 1.25% Interest rate (per annum)
300K-499,999 = 1.375% Interest rate (per annum)
500K-999,999 = 1.5% Interest rate (per annum)

lahat sila with 1% BONUS p.a. if no withdrawal within a month.

question ko lang is saan ba pwede mag inquire for BPI Direct? Wala akong makitang branches e. Interesting kasi mataas ang p.a. interest sa Direct.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

to answer my question, virtual bank lang pala ang Direct. pwede din pala ako maginquire sa BPI na mismo.

Does BPI Direct have branches?

Being a virtual bank, BPI Direct does not have any brick and mortar branch.  We operate online and over the phone.  However, we are also supported by the branches of BPI.  Like when you opened your BPI Direct account, you were requested to nominate your Branch of convenience.   This is the branch where you will present your identification papers, sign your account opening documents and pick-up your BPI Direct Express Teller ATM Card. This branch will also service your over-the-counter transactions like deposits and withdrawals when amounts exceed the ATM withdrawal limits.

i think they'll close your savings tapos open ka ng maxi saver account.

I'm confused... which is better, BPI Family or BPI Direct?  Not just for Maxi Saver, but in general?  Is BPI Direct a risk because it does not have a physical branch? Parang mas ok kasi yung interest rates, ADB nila eh...

Yung "1% BONUS p.a. if no withdrawal within a month" naguguluhan ako, kunyari nagopen ako last August, september, october wala pa ring withdrawal,  then by November nagwithdraw naman ako..entitled parin ba ako sa 1% per annum?

Yes, its + 1% per annum or year but is credited monthly.

Simplistic example

Let's say you have 50k

At the end of Month 1 if you have no withdrawals you'd get
75 pesos which is computed by
getting the annual interest rate of 2.25% dividing it by 12
which gives you roughly 0.1875% per month
Take out 20% as withholding tax, then multiply it by 50,000.

If at the end of Month 2 you deposited 1k then promptly took out
in the same month, that means you won't be getting the 1% bonus
So you'd get 41.6 pesos which is computed in the same manner
above but instead of 2.25%, you use 1.25%

I hope that made sense

thanks sis! :)

mga sis, ok lang bang lumagpas ng 500k yung nasa maxi saver ko? kasi diba kung sakaling magkaron ng problem ang BPI, ang insured lang is 500k? ibig sabihin ba nun yung sobra sa 500k possible na di makuha or pahirapan before makuha? sorry, noob question.

@ marssie, no prob.

@dhee, as far as I know, what happens is PDIC would
liquidate all of the banks assets, pay off debts, etc.
And if there's still money left, its divided among those
depositors that had over 500k.

So, its still possible to recover your money even if
its over 500k

Opo pwede pero the point is, with a court order, halos lahat rin
ng mga properties mo ay magagarnish..  ;D

Nye ngayon ko lang nabackread to.. Medyo OT pero since opening of account sa BPI and purpose ko, patawad na rin  ;D

so pag may court order, pwedeng magarnish ang account sa bank pag may utang ang husband mo (even before marriage?)

PDIC coverage is 500k per person per bank. So if you have a Maxi-Saver na 500k and another Savings with BPI also na 250k, you are still only covered ng 500k. Kasi per person per bank sya, not per account.

What my Dad did was to put some of his money in my name para covered... true enough, nag-close yung bank na yun, pero nakuha nya lahat ng pera nya through PDIC kasi he put the amount beyond 500k under my name.
