Wow! Buti naligaw ako sa thread na ito. When I moved in sa south, I was eyeing nga to attend sessions sa Bikram Yoga Alabang. Di kasi accessible for commute e I still don't know how to drive. :( So I ended doing Barre3 na lang but only for 2 months kasi naging busy sa work.

For a year now, I'm doing 3x/wk gym work-out with personal training. I just want to maintain my weight to prepare my body for a healthier pregnancy. Plan is to do yoga once I get pregnant which is likely next year pa since hubby isn't here. After backreading, parang gusto ko munang kumuha ng lessons here kasi if ever, will be based abroad na. Para kasing intimidating na beginner ka pa lang tapos in a foreign environment pa. :-\ The only yoga classes that I know of though that is accessible for me is yung conducted sa gym where I work out but the recommendation here is for a beginner dapat yoga studio. Di rin pwede sa akin ang home yoga because I tend to slack off (hence, the need for a personal trainer when I'm at the gym).

I'll check muna rates sa BYA. But if ever, baka bumalik na lang ako sa Barre3 tapos next year na ako mag-yoga talaga. :-\

My yoga instructors will be away for a couple of weeks, so I'm looking for a studio to take me in until January. My first choice is Yoga Manila at the EDSA Shang. Anybody practicing there?

I am currently doing Bikram Yoga and I am simply in awe. I tried it 5 months ago, but I didn't last. Trying it for a day feels like torture and my body simply gave up. Hindi kasi sanay since before that, my lifestyle is extremely sedentary! Recently, nagbalik loob ako and the changes in my body are drastic!

My posture improved as early as the third day. I no longer slouch. My headache is less now. Usually, I get a throbbing headache after doing a bunch of lying postures but recently, nawala na siya. Feeling ko nasanay na. I'm also anemic and I can see that my overall health is improving. Hindi na ko mahihilohin. Also, I acquired balance talaga. Less na mag-wobble yung knees ko and nakakaya na ng katawan ko bitbitin yung buong katawan ko, if that makes sense. Ang ganda na din ng tayo at lakad ko.

I am really amazed with the benefits of yoga. I am practicing for a week pa lang (with weekend breaks) and all of these I got already!

To those based in the Katipunan, QC area, I highly recommend Ananda Marga in Sikatuna Village. I had always wanted to do yoga for years, but hesitated because I was intimidated. I finally took the plunge last December, and I must say, the changes in my physical and mental states are apparent. The entire approach of Ananda Marga is simple, no-nonsense yoga - very traditional. Apart from the asanas (yoga postures), emphasis is placed on meditation and stress release. My work as a copyeditor comes with a sedentary lifestyle that has caused me a lot of physical pain and coffee-driven days. Now, I am glad to say that my energy level is enhanced sans the coffee overload and my back pain is gone! Their rates are very attractive because Ananda Marga is a non-profit organization. :)

Does anyone practice Bikram yoga in Makati?
What is the best time to practice for the evening class, preferably not so many people.

Thanks!

For the downward dog, a variation you can try is resting your forearms on the floor, with your palms clasped, para hindi masyadong stressed yung wrists mo. OK lang din hindi masyadong straight ang legs sa umpisa, you'll develop flexibility from practicing. You can lift your heels a little bit, hindi kailangang very flat on the floor kung hindi pa kaya.

For those looking for free online videos for their yoga practice at home, go to Yoga Journal's site. My fave sequences are from Jason Crandell. Aside from Ekhart Yoga on youtube, this is my go to site for my morning practice.

^ Question 1: Yes, but barely. It also depends on what kind of yoga you plan to practice. I suggest you go for Vinyasa / Ashtanga. Combine with some cardio exercises.

Question 2: Definitely. Yoga will not only keep you away from stress for a few moments, it will redefine how you think, how you approach difficult situations, and how you respond to stress.

^ I agree. I had been practicing yoga at home since last month and it made me a much more positive person. Another plus is that my energy levels improved significantly, as in no more sluggish days -- my back pains stopped too!

I got inspired by Chantal Umali-Mercado (TJ Hotdog, dear diary girl), she lost a lot of weight just by doing yoga. I wish I could achieve that too as I need to lose about 40lbs of post-baby weight pero I think I need some additional cardio exercise to compliment. I kinda' hate running so I'm looking for alternatives.

I live in Singapore and gym membership is expensive here. :) Maybe I'll give running a try again next week, routine ko kasi since January is the fat-loss yoga routine from Tara Stiles' book. So far, I lost about 1KG pa lang and I need to lose more!!!

^You could try checking out exercise videos to do at home, like Zumba or Leslie Sansone's walk at home. Tried Zumba, and nakakapawis even though I suck at doing the moves. :D

I can only do about 30 minutes of yoga before I get tired and give up, how long do you gals do your yoga routines?
