I do yoga (Vinyasa/Hatha/Power Yoga) and pilates on non-gym days. I still prefer going to the gym, but I think yoga helped me break out of the weight loss plateau. It provides contrast kasi sa gym routine ko na hectic. Though, I find it too zen sometimes. Well, most of the time.

I'm waiting for PraiseMoves to be established here in Manila. It's like yoga for Christians, worshipping God through body movements and poses. There's only one certified instructor here in the country and wala pa siyang official class schedule.

Hmm.. Seems like the yoginis from GT have moved on to other fitness routines.

^ manila sis, i think your best bet would be the yoga classes being offered at gyms like Fitness First And Gold's. they're more fitness-oriented though but it Shld be worth a try. As for Boni ave, nearest are the studios in makati or bikram and bliss yoga in Greenhills

I didn't notice that this is a duplicate thread. Girls, there's a more comprehensive discussion on this subject at the Exercise section. We are all better off posting and practicing the virtue of backreading in this thread

Where did you buy your Yoga Mat? Is it thick or thin fabric?
What's a good brand and how much? meron bang around 500 lang?

^ Yoga mats aren't made of fabric, more like rubber I believe

I'd say the best brand is Manduka. The cheaper ones at 500 or less would not give ample support (masakit sa knees, head, etc.)

Yes, Manduka is good. But printed mats from Gaiam are really pretty.

I saw some cheap ones in Sulit around 200, 250, 300 but I think it's only thin 3mm.
I think I like the Athlethech brand because it is half-inch thick exercise mat and costs 820 (Chris Sports) 1080 (Royal Sporting Goods), though a bit bulky, and easily scratched.

There's also the Win Max brand 6mm thick for 595, I bought as a gift, wishlist ng friend ko e.
Fitness&Atheltics Company I think is a local brand/store and has 3mm 414 and 6mm 599 pesos.
NordicTrack has 3mm thin only.
I just want to try a thick cheap one since I don't know how often I can do yoga.
If I can't come to my yogilates class, I just jog in the park or do zumba at home.

I tried yoga today and its not the most pleasant experience..have you tried doing yoga using a stinky mat. Nag trial class ako sa yoga and humiram lang ako ng mat sa gym siguro next time mag dadala na ako sarili mat ko. Medyo nahirapan ako sa yoga syempre kasi first time ko lang for a longggg time mag workout and yung teacher namin she doesnt do the pose with us she just describe it medyo mahirap makinig ng instruction pag nag buburn na yung muscle mo sa pose.

^ Some of our yoga instructors do not do the poses with us din. As you attend more sessions naman, mafafamiliarize ka rin sa poses and you'll know what to expect. Give it another go. Just bring your own mat. It's like your toothbrush. You do not lend or borrow. :)

You can also practice at home kahit 20 mins lang per day. Download ka na lang ng app like Daily Yoga or subscribe to online classes like Gaiam.

^Even if they don't do the pose, the instructors should still go around to check the students' poses and make corrections as needed. At least that's what I experienced when I did yoga before.

Echoing what Frozen Toes mentioned about the mats and at-home yoga. There are also yoga videos on YouTube you can check out. What I did was I downloaded a bunch yoga videos through torrents. There are videos that only take 20 minutes and others that take a whole hour. :)

If I were to buy a mat, I'd probably go for a Manduka PROlite mat. Read good reviews about it. :D It looks like a good lightweight mat that I can just throw down on my living room floor or put on top of another mat at the studio.

@frozen toes

I ask my instructor about the mat sabi niya nga maganda daw manduka but its expensive 6k daw and medyo heavy can you recommend a good beginners mat that is less than 2k

^ Try Toby's and other sporting goods store. They sell just-okay mats that cost PHP 900+. Sana yung may kasama nang strap yung makuha mo. Also, I saw some mats din at Tickles and PHP 300+ lang sila. Di ko lang alam quality nun.

But if you're willing to spend a bit more, check out yoga stores like Certified Calm and Aura Athletica.

^There are 3 I know of: Urban Ashram and Beyond Yoga in High Street, and Yoga+ at Fort Legend, I think. Drop-in rates range from P450-P600.

^^Meron din affordable mats sa Landmark - I got one there for less than P500, I think.

Which yoga studio did you go to? They should at least clean and dry the mats after the previous class has ended. Also, you usually put a towel over the mat. (The studio I go to provides this for free.) You can also use a yoga mat sanitizer spray before starting class.

Gym yung pinuntahan my yoga class sila na invite lang ako mag trial class ng yoga nila and since 1 day notice lang and havent done yoga before so wala ako gamit they just lend me a mat from their TRX class. I feel silly the first day kasi wala talaga ako alam sa yoga naka rubber shoes pa ako noon ;D. Nilalagyan pala ng towel yun kaya pala yung isa ko katabi may towel yung mat niya. But I will definitly buy my own mat next yoga class ko.
