^^ Thanks for the priceless tips Ibong :) You're absolutely right. As with all the other difficult asanas, especially for a highly inflexible individual like me, letting go of that inhibitory fear of seriously injuring oneself is the key to traversing one's pre-conceived limits. I never imagined myself to be able to execute a wheel pose, but when I enrolled in a formal class and was given techniques specifically on proper breathing and the correct muscle group to contract to carry out a difficult flexion or extension, I can now hold the wheel pose for about 4-5 deep breaths. Sarap pa ng feeling after coz I get to open up those tight hip and chest regions. Btw, I know it also pays a lot to develop a very strong core in doing a headstand no, coz that's where one draws the strength in lifting the legs up and balancing them. is that right? And oh, are you a part of the team from urban ashram?

^ sis, saan FF branch ka and do they use a heater during the class? How long does a sesh lasts? I might try the one in Fairview, may groupon deal kasi hehe.

hey!  yep it really does help if you have stronger core.  not only in a headstand but in a lot of poses... even in balancing poses... :)

nope i'm not from urban ashram.  actually i've never been there but i've attended some of the classes of the teachers before urban ashram started.  I've attended marc's class kasi and he's really good. :)

Hi. Just want to share. been doing yoga for the past 6months already but my major accomplishment is im doing yoga daily for straight 2weeks na. Yay! and im kinda loving it. I dont enroll in classes. I just watched youtube then i tried at home. right now i can already reached my foot. and i can do standing forward bend. I tried yoga kasi i have no time to go on the gym then my husband dont want me to buy equipments. yoga is for me talaga. some of the yoga guru i watched in youtube is tara stiles, yogatics and [textspeak!] pinakauna i watched the yoga for dummies. super basic. hope it helps. Im vegetarian kaya i can easily adopt with yoga stiles. Vinyasa girls! xo

I attended vinyasa yoga last week. Nadepress ako. Ang dami na namin sa class (mga 18peeps, and after office hours yun), tapos nabilisan pa ako sa turo ng instructor. Hindi ko talaga na-enjoy. At least that experience motivated me to wake up early and attend morning yoga classes na lang, at least fewer people talaga.

Just tried Bikram Yoga at Alabang. My yoga buddy passed out. Ako, I really tried my best not to faint. Pero naffeel ko na rin yung dizziness. Dapat constant breathing lang talaga, kasi super init sa room. May lalake din na bigla na lang di gumalaw. He was carried out of the heat room pa. Then my buddy told me na nagvomit siya. Kumain pala siya. Dapat 2-3 hrs before the session, empty stomach ka na. My buddy naman, skyflakes lang kinain nya the whole day plus nagCBC siya the morning.

sis babylove08, self-taught ka lang? flexible ka ba? ako kasi hindi flexible and when i tried yoga last month yata in front of my husband, pinagtawanan nya ako  :'( gusto ko pa naman magpatulong sa kanya to achieve the forms, e kaya lang nahiya na ako kasi napagtawanan na ako. my mom-in-law will be giving me a copy of slim calm sexy yoga plus the cd by the end of the month. anyone tried this? may cookbook ring kasama. kumpleto na lahat, ako na lang hinihintay  ;D

i've been a yoga teacher ever since before pa.

i learned it through Wai Lana. she's the best teacher. we have videos of her and that's how I learned. complete na siya - from exercise, to proper diet, to taking care of kids, store, etc!
check her site:
http://www.wailana.com/

she even has for kids which you can play for your kids! super cute and very educating.

hope you guys try it too. the best  ;)

^^ If youre free from any circulatory problem like hypertension or have no medical history of vertigo then by all means, indulge the self and thy poundage. Kidding aside, Yoga should be considered as one of the ideal ways to shed excess weight since youre doing the weight loss gradually, naturally.

If you have no prior exposure to any form of Yoga or any fitness routine which deals largely with flexibility, then I strongly suggest you start with the basics. Attend a beginner's class. Baka mabigla ang muscles mo, and the rest of your joints and ligaments and you may end up inadvertently hurting yourself precluding any form of strenuous workout considering youve zeroed in on bikram where a standard of 26 poses are performed in a pre-defined (high) temperature setting. I havent personally tried Bikram but I assume it''ll be more arduous bec. the combination of holding the poses longer under extreme temperature make breathing much more difficult that if youre not too conscious of the breath, youre likely to pass out.

Why not try Hot Yoga first? It works like Bikram but the heat is much more bearable or tolerable. I think it's similarly identified as Power yoga in some studios where the poses are done in a room where the body heat emanating from the attendees is relied upon for that ultimate "sweaty" yoga experience. Minsan they employ the use of a heater esply if the number of practitioners are low relative to the size of a given studio. This is sooo good when they infuse the room with aromatic oils, it makes you much more conscious of adopting proper breathing.

@euwie: unsolicited advice here, isantabi mo muna yun thought na may asawa ka XD but seriously, if he's just gonna make a laughing stock out of you then by all means take heed of my advice. Every pose will look different on each individual as we have varying levels of strength and flexibility and musculature. Even for a given pose, it may look ideal on one person but forgettable on another and possibly go vice versa with a different pose. Masisira kasi diskarte mo eh, and besides it is important that the one who'll help you execute balancing poses be aware enough of how it's to be executed properly. That could spell the difference between doing more harm to yourself (to your muscles) than good.

Read up on some yoga articles, try the Yoga journal site. It's loaded with brain-candy type of info and videos. and oh! Buti pa yun in-law supportive ah ;)

For those who have tried the skidless towel thatre similar to Yogitoes but not as costly, is it good enough? This is the one that sells for under 1K. Do the plastic nubs come off after several washes? Im not sure of the brand since the only stock I saw from the closest shop where it's available has no label. Im strongly trying to defy the urge to buy Yogitoes coz it's quite hard to find this cheaper brand from sports shops but my rational sense finds the former's price exorbitant.
