Common Grammar Mistakes

Filipinos are very critical on correcting grammar. Pero sa states, puro mali mali grammar ng mga Amerikano. As in:) nakakatawa kase they don't mind it although i asked one friend if they notice whether the grammar is correct or not, and she answered that she notices more of the accent (to know which state the person comes from) than the grammar. Hilarious!

how about the word "breeding"?, yung ginagamit madalas sa tv series na sinasabi na may breeding o walang breeding?

Naalala ko tuloy yung nakita ko na post sa fb recently. Sabi nya, "Wala kang kaclass class! Ang cheap mo! Wala kang BREATHING!" Kakaawa naman yung pinapatamaan, patay na yata kasi wala daw breathing. Hahaha!

Isa pa na nakita ko lang kanina. Sabi nya, "Friends pls. bare with me, moody lang talaga ako minsan."

Dami kong tawa sa mga to. Hahaha When making patama, make sure naman kasi na the grammar is right. Or better yet, mag-Tagalog na lang.

^Oo nga Sis eh, sana tinagalog na lang. Capital letters kasi talaga ang pagkakasulat nya nung BREATHING kaya napansin ko agad. Muntik na ako mawalan ng hininga sa nabasa ko. Tapos yung isa naman nagiging porn star pag moody, katakot! Lalo na pag sa labas ng bahay inatake ng pagiging moody.  Hahaha!

Common mistakes na nakita ko yung it's/its, they're/their/there, your/you're plural noun with singular verb (vice versa), to/two/too, affect/effect (usually sa foreign friends). Isa pa na madalas ko makita ay yung paglalagay ng apostrophe, thank"s na dapat ay thanks lang.

"stuff" as a noun can never be pluralized as "stuffs", except in the case of "foodstuffs"

STUFF is an uncountable noun, so you should use singular verbs for it.

Example: "This stuff is hard."

If you want to pluralize STUFF, use adjectives/adverbs:

Example:
Adjective: "I bought you SOME cool stuff."
Adverb: "Gift Gate sells SO MUCH cute stuff."

THE ONLY TIME YOU CAN USE "STUFFS" is as a VERB. ("She stuffs the bills into her purse.")

Personally, I prefer using the word THINGS instead of STUFF. Parehas lang naman sila ng ibig sabihin - mas madali pang gamitin ang THINGS.

this is a pet peeve of mine. i get annoyed when people say "stuffs" or "foods" lol

the term "foods", if used to refer to different types of food, is grammatically correct.

Yung stuffs ang hindi acceptable.

Grammar mistake ba 'to or spelling mistake lang, kasi dalawang beses nyang pinost sa wall nya. CHICKENFOX! , dapat chickenpox.... hahaha! dami kong tawa dito.. gustong gusto ko icorrect..
Tsaka yung post-nasal drip... ansabe, post-nasal drift....

dami kong tawa sa thread na to.. lalo na sa "wala kang breathing" haha.. LOL

pagdating sa grammar hindi ko masyado pinapansin kasi ako rin naman hindi naman ganon kagaling mag english.. pero pagdating sa pronounciation at spelling yun yung mas napapansin ko.. especially sa mga pinsan ko, they grew up kasi sa province, so may pagka bisaya.. ayun tinutulungan ko sila sa mga pronounciation.. para rin naman sa kanila yun.. ang maganda sa mga bisaya kapag natuto mag english ang ganda ng accent..

Speak with/to

WITH - use "with" if you want to imply a 2-way conversation.

TO -  person/people talked to need not respond. Usually used if addressing a group.

Ex: My mom spoke with my teachers about my failing grades during the PTA meeting.
      My mom spoke to the freshmen students during the PTA assembly.

I have to speak with Professor X about Wolverine. (expecting feedback from Professor X)
I have to speak to the X-Men about Magneto's evil plan. (The X-Men isn't expected to respond. I just want to inform the team)
