hello mga sis... pls i need ur advice... need ko ba mag pa CAS? ang reason ko kase, nung 2 months pregnant pa lang ako i dreamed of having a baby with cleft lip... tpos nung nag pa pelvic ultrasound ako nung 18 weeks na [textspeak!] tummy ko okay naman yung findings... kya nman gusto ko magpa CAS kasi ang weird lang pag nanonood ako ng tv lagi ako may nkikitang may cleft lip na tao tpos sa mall, sa palengke may nkakasalubong akong may cleft lip...pag ganun ba signos ba yun na ganun din yung magiging baby ko??. napapraning nako... ;( pls help.

^no sis. Lol. Relax. First, you don't 'need' to get a CAS. It's optional. Second, if you do get CAS, it should be to find out your baby's overall health not just to know if may 'bingot' o wala. Cleft lip is 'fixable.' Many other things that are seen in  CAS, like anomalies in the heart, abdomen, limbs, etc are much more serious and life threatening.  Third, if may cleft lip man si baby, then at least you know now and makakaprepare kayo, financially and emotionally. .

Ako lagi ko naiisip what if may abnormalities si baby..first time mom here, mejo praning pang din pero mag papa  CAS talaga ako.. Malalaman din ba kung trisomy  syndrome si baby or hindi?..

If sa CAS ba nakita na walang cleft lip, possible ba na paglabas ni baby meron pa din sya na ganun? malakas nga kase makaparanoid un.

^I'm not sure about other trisomy conditions, pero Down's Syndrome (trisomy 21) risk is also assessed during CAS. BUT, the test for that (as well as risks for other trisomy conditions, is best done during the nuchal translucency test during the first trimester. And even then, they only calculate for risks. The surest way to confirm a DS condition is to perform an amniocentesis. The test is sensitive, It's a bit risky for both mom and baby, so I would suggest talking to your OB first before you undergo that test.

we had CAS, then Nuchal Translucency Scan and Chorionic Villus Sampling done...

our bub's nape was a bit thick from the NT scan so they said high probability na she has down syndrome or some other condition. They then asked if I want to undergo CVS (I was in the early stages of pregnancy... I think 3 months) and for our peace of mind, we went for it fully knowing the risks.

Tests came out normal and we found out her gender in advance! I still vividly remember that phone call

no, NT is different from CAS.

NT measures the fluid found at the back of your baby’s head and neck, just beneath the skin. The thickness of this fluid can be precisely measured and this is called the nuchal translucency measurement. This is only a screening test and cannot say for sure if your baby HAS chromosomal abnormalities. This simply tells you if your risk is low or high.

CAS naman assesses the baby’s anatomy or structure and measurements (head, abdomen, leg, arm, heart), plus your placenta, amount of amniotic fluid, etc.

I live in Australia so I had it done here.

in my case, since CVS pretty much tested everything na, when I had CAS (on my 2nd trimester, I think), yung physical na lang chineck (heart valves, fingers, toes, etc etc)

^^littlekinselle, NT is done in the first trimester lang or up to week 14. Too late na if you're second or third tri already. CAS can assess risk for any DS probabilities pero you can only verify that through an amniocentesis. Most hospitals have an NT test. Meron sa St. Luke's. I'm not sure if meron sa mga diagnostics clinics.

^I read your statement in a different tone in my head, so my apologies too if that wasn't your intention.

Anyway, a close friend of ours had NT+blood screening test done and malaki risk nya - 1 in 40! So magpapatest rin sya... but kawawa lang kasi lumabas resulta nung screening test during the holiday season and halos lahat nagbakasyon ata. So naiiyak sya araw araw plus her paglilihi pa which isn't so easy.

^ dito oang ako sa pilipinas sis.. Sa Makati med ako nag papacheck-up January 23 pa sched ng CAS ko. Kasi. Late ko na nalaman na 15 weeks preggy na pala ako last dec. pero naka pag ultrasound na ako kaya ko na paman na 15 weeks na pala si baby. Haha.. All i know 9 weeks pa lang.. Normal lahat ng blood test ko naman.. Alam ko amniocentesis usually sa 2nd trimester nga ginagawa.
