Sam, there's a highly recommended and raved about (by my fellow parents at Family Montessori) Montessori grade school in Xavierville, QC called Centro Montessori. It seems to be an excellent school as several of their students pass the entrance exams to Phil. Science, Ateneo HS, MI HS and other big schools come high school. The kids of my kids' dev pedia, Dr. Tanchanco, go to CM. The neighbors' kids go to CM and their mom is a preschool owner and Psych prof at Ateneo. This is my other choice of grade school for my kids. I will most likely attend their open house this coming August or September to see for myself what my co-parents are raving about. Medyo malayo from your place but if you pass Kamuning Road going to Kamias Road then Pajo Street at Proj. 3, you'll end up at Xavierville Avenue. Hindi naman toxic ang traffic there.

Marcia and Grayce, my children finger-sucked (hindi lang thumb kundi 2-3 fingers ang sinusubo!). Si Marty weaned by himself. Milo is still finger-sucking. Pinipigilan ko na nga siya whenever I see him doing it kasi may kalyo na ang 2 fingers niya sa right hand (good thing he is left-handed). Mababait ang babies who thumbsuck because they know how to soothe themselves. Hindi sila perwisyo.

Grace, oh my, ang mahal talaga sa MI pala. I also considered MI pero nalula ako sa rate for their entry level-preschool, Junior Nursery ba yun, sa Child's Place. Aabot ng 100k+ if we pay in quarterly installments.

Marcia, visit mo ang school and interview the teacher. Prior to the interview, read up on Montessori sa
www.montessori.edu. I can give you a list of guide questions to determine if the school appliesthe Montessori method talaga or Montessori-like sila. Some MOntessori schools like OB Montessori, mixed na kasi ang Montessori with traditional method. Nothing bad there, but a bit misleading for me. Walang copyright ang Montessori name so any school can just append it to its name. Usually, the directress is trained in the Montessori method abroad (walang Montessori teacher training dito), complete sila sa Montessori materials, walang worksheets, walang blackboards, walang numerical or letter grading system but you receive narrative reports on the progress of your child regularly and mixed ages ang class. Walang level level na kinder, nursery, etc. Preschool Montessori is open to kids aged 2 1/2 to 6 years old. The teacher should know about the prepared environment, the absorbent mind, practical life exercises, sensorial exercises, etc. They should emphasize the process or learning, rather than the results per se. May progression ang learning and the child learns by himself. The teacher only guides and directs the children and never dictates or makes a lesson plan for the whole clas. The teacher should have a work plan (eto ang tawag sa lesson plan) for each child, to suit his way of learning. Kaya sa Montessori kilalang-kilala dapat ng teacher each student and his/her peculiarities.
