^i added mireproix to the beef stock for my baby the other day, he liked it! =) he even ate the celery na minash. sabi ni hubby the soup tastes a bit sweet. yun na rin yung liquid na ina-add ko dun sa dry cereals ni baby.

@geumjandi
Do I have to wait 6 months to wean baby?

At present WHO guidelines recommend that babies should be breastfed exclusively until 6 months at least and that weaning should not be any earlier, unless of course if baby shows signs of being ready to wean. At 6 months, your baby's immune system is at that point when the risk of an allergic reaction is lower. Also babies at this stage begin to respond to small amounts of food well. Mainly breast milk or formula on their own is not able to provide iron and other key nutrients which can be obtained from solid foods. Solid foods also enable baby to develop facial and mouth muscles vital for speech development later on. BUT in case you or your family have a history of allergies such as asthma, eczema and the like, delayed weaning decreases the chances of your baby getting these conditions.

my problem with camote (gave my son the yellow/orange sweet potato, supposedly sweeter kind) is that I just found them solidified into small, hard particles in my son's poop (yes, I check what he takes in, and what he lets out)... basically, hindi nya nada-digest :D so I am skipping the twice a day feeding until I see signs he's able to digest better... no use kasi giving him two solid meals of non-digestible food kasi he'd lose out on nutrients, eh di mag-milk na lang sya :D

i'm only delaying naman.. and i will repeat the camote again. I just bought jarred Earth's Best stuff that I know I won't prepare at home (carrots, peas, pears) for variety and if i'm too lazy... he loves papaya though (yeah, apart from sayote, we're mostly yellow-eaters, hehe) and i've been looking for a nice avocado...

amazing lang din... i never made these observations before w/ my firstborn, who I fed mostly Cerelac

This I noticed when I gave baby her first taste of kalabasa. Na-poop sya agad after 2 hours siguro. Eh kaka-poop lang nya that morning.  Naiyak nga sya eh. Mukhang di pa masyado na-digest ng maayos. Inisip ko nga baka magka-diarrhea sya so I stopped muna.  She likes it kasi she ate 2 ice cubes! Siguro 1 ice lang muna...

can i give kiwi as baby's first solid food?

My pedia advised not to give citrusy food.. kiwi is medyo maasim. So save it for a few weeks..

sis reb, chop mo lang yung onions, carrots and celery then boil it together with the meat, yun na. :) nilagay ko na lang sa freezer yung sabaw para yun na lang ipapaulam ko pag wala na akong maisip ipaulam kay baby  ;)
akala ko di magugustuhan ni baby since distinct yung taste ng celery, pero he ate the celery when i mashed it with fork... pati yung white onions kinain din nya.  ;D

sis, ako lagi din nabili ng marie biscuits dati, pero ngayon, nagbibigay na ako ng fita biscuits tsaka yung ONE na rice crackers. any biscuits naman ok sa baby ko basta malambot at hindi mahirap kagatin eh.

try nyo sis reb and ms.orange yung  bread stix ng monde, yung plain lang. gustong gusto ni baby ;D tsaka yung size nya perfect for little hands.

matamis ba yung one  rice crackers? ayaw kasi ni baby ng masyadong matamis na food, nauumay siguro.

i believe so. pero it depends kasi sa dami ng teeth ng anak mo. yung baby ko kasi at 10 months 8 na yung ngipin, plus may 2 pa na tumutubo. he likes to eat crunchy foods and other food na may texture kasi nama-massage gums nya when he bites and chews on it. just make sure na hindi laging crackers or biscuits yung kinakain ni baby.

Sharing some recipes I usually cook for my 10month old boy:

TOMATO SQUASH PASTA
Ground beef (I usually buy ground sirloin)
Minced garlic
Minced onion
Minced celery
Squash (sliced into match stick size so it's easy to cook). You may substitute with carrots or potatoes
Pinch of Italian seasoning
Tomato paste
Water
Bay leaf
Grated cheese (I usually use grated mild cheddar cheese. Sometimes, I use half a triangle of Laughing Cow cheese)
Pasta (I prefer using ziti/penne)

Sauté garlic, onion and celery in a little olive oil. Add your your beef and a little Italian seasoning and bay leaf. Once your beef is cooked, add in the squash and a little tomato paste. Then put enough water to cover the squash. Mash the squash once it's cooked. Add a little cheese to thicken your sauce. Then serve sauce on top of your cooked pasta.

NOTE: make sure you get your pedia's go signal before introducing cheese and tomatoes to your baby.

FISH AND MALUNGGAY SOUP
Fish fillet (any meaty kind like lapu-lapu or tilapia)
Cleaned Fish head (to make your fish stock)
malunggay
Your choice of veggies; cut it up into match stick sizes for faster cooking (for this recipe we usually use sayote or squash)
Minced garlic and onion
3-4 cups of Water

Sauté your garlic and onions in a little olive oil. Add your water and fish head. Let this boil for 30mins. Add your your malunggay and let it boil for another 5 minutes.  Do not overboil your malunggay. Your stock will taste bitter. Using a fine sieve, strain the malunggay and the fish head so you can have a clear fish broth. You have to strain it to make sure than there are no fish bones left in your broth

Place your broth in a clean stock pan. Add your veggies. Once your veggies are cooked, add your fish. Let this boil for another 5-10mins or until the fish is cooked. Serve with rice or with flavorless cereal.

NOTE: make sure you get your pedia's go signal before introducing fish.
