how do i know if i should give more to baby?

she eats i ice cube lang per feeding. pag naubos na, hindi naman siya nanghihingi na or iiyak na gusto pa so i stop na. unlike yung twins ng sister ko, nakaka-6 ice cubes each! as in nagpupumiglas pag naubos na. eh hindi naman ganon baby ko. she's the same age as the twins. sabi ng sister ko bakit ang konti daw ng pinapakain ko. eh kasi hindi na nanghihingi eh.

sorry, medyo OT yata here kasi this is for preparing and storing solid food but i hope someone can answer.

clueless/chic_clothes - i'm using munchkin grinder. ok naman siya. i use it in potato, carrots, apple and pears. after grind, pino naman and since malambot na yung potato or others tapos lalagyan pa ng milk, and itsura niya is para na din cerelac.

si Z estimate lang ang dami ng pagkain. hindi na namin na-measure if 1 ice cube. nagbe base mom ko sa laki or dami ng food after grinding. pero si Z kapag ayaw na niya kumain, hindi na niya i-o-open mouth niya or minsan he pushes the spoon by his hand. if your baby is used to with 1 ice cube, try to increase siguro per week. like 1 1/2 ice cube this week or 2 ice cube after 2 weeks naman.  hth.

^Various ways sis: may nabibili na microwaveable steamer; just add water and place in the  microwave or you can place it in the steamer dish of your rice cooker with water in the pot or pwede rin na you add water to a pot and place a steamer rack and cover pot : )

some also just use their preferred water and boil everything together, and use the remaining broth/juice to mash/blend with

I steam with the rice...and then put the veggie on top of this strainer thing that came with my food preparation set (not sure if I have the Pigeon one or the Ainon one ata) and mash the veggie there.... super mashed naman na sya when I scoop up from the underside of the strainer...i just add breast milk usually to make it really baby food-consistency

clueless... just follow her cues :)  or maybe you can start adding a little more too, like 1/4 of a cube etc... baka rin kasi she doesn't know she can ask for more... pero generally, follow the baby's cues talaga

ang siste lang din naman dyan, you will soon learn which are really "more please, am still hungry" cues as opposed to "more please, coz i like what we're doing"

my baby's turning 5months in 2 wks time but i'd like to delay giving solid until 6months since her sister and my hubby have allergies, ive read na delaying solid will lessen the chace of allergies.

But of course excited na din ako kaya nagbabasa basa na, i have read from the previous thread that some mommies start with gicing lugaw first. My pedia is telling me to start with cerelac rice cereal..im asking him if we could go straight to potato or kamote, hindi daw, dapat rice cereal muna..eh i dont like to give cerelac kasi matamis yun eh, even i, like the taste of cerelac.lol eh baka masanay sa matamis si baby at maging choosy..i know that based from experience sa panganay ko na lumaki sa cerelac hanggang ngayon puro sweets ang hilig at fried chiken and hotdog lang ang kilalang ulam (she's 4 na).

So kung rice dapat ang first solid, pwede ba yung lugaw..or AM (ano ba yung am,pano ba yun gawin?) also sa lugaw, pano din gawin? Im thinking kasi na yun bigas igiling bago isaing para pwede kay baby? Kaso parang ang trabaho kung hahanap pa ko ng grinder ng bigas.  ano sa tingin nyo mommies?

sam, i wonder where your pedia got the info na kailangan rice cereal ang first food.  :-\

but if you want to prepare your own rice cereal. you can use a blender/osterizer to grind the bigas. if you have a coffee grinder pwede din. grind na a lot in one go.

check this out for suggestions on what to feed baby. this is what it says pa there - Did you know that your baby does not have to eat rice cereal as a first food?  :) there's a portion there on how to prepare rice cereal using your own ground rice.

i would have given avocado as b's first food but i only had kamote available at the time so that's what we gave. kanina lang she had brocolli. i though she wouldn't like it because i, myself, hate it. hehe. but she finished 2 ice cubes. that was the first time she actually asked for more after she finished the first ice cube.  :)

Lisa - i also don't know..but i have read "traditionally", rice daw talaga ang first solid food ng baby but not necessarily na mgstart sa rice..siguro traditional si pedia hehe, i specifically asked pa nga if i could give kamote na (since i remebered your post na yun ag first ng baby mo) after his prescribed 2-wk rice cereal, and he twitched and said 'wag muna' mahirap daw matunaw yun. Hehe.. Labo noh.. Pero he's telling me na to give oraneg/ponkan/calamansi juice na since newborn pa si baby ko sinusulat nya na yun sa baby book, the juice mixed with honey pa! Eh may nabasa naman ako na citrus fruits should be given kapag 1year old na (esp pag may allergy history) since citrus can trigger eczema. Then may nabasa din ako na honey should not be given to babies because it can cause botulism. Thanks sa link i'll read it. :)

Anyway, i came across a website about BABY-LED WEANING (BLW). May nagppractice ba sa inyo nito? As far as i understood, ang ginagawa foods aren't pureed..just cut into tiny pieces and let the baby eat it by herself by grasping it. I saw the photos and i was quite amazed pero nakakatakot hehe saka super messy. But i think it's a good training para hindi maging picky eater mga kids.

Sam, iba iba talaga ang pedias no? even the pedia of my sister's twins and b's pedia magkaiba ng sinasabi eh the babies are the same age.  :-\

there was a thread before on baby-led weaning. not sure lang if it's been archived already. i also found it interesting but for fear na baka ma-choke si baby, maybe i will try when she's a bit older and can take ore chunky food and can pick up things on her own.  :)

^ sis when you gave baby her solid food for the first time may extrusion reflex pa ba siya? nagstart na kami nang solid ni baby kahapon. she was 5months 3weeks old. we gave her squash. hindi ko maintindihan if she does not like squash or she does not like the consistency or it is just the extrusion reflex kase whenever i give her some sumusubo naman siya and after that ilalabas na niya with her tongue. as in pakiramdam ko wala naman siyang nakakain e nilalabas niya lahat. pero hindi naman siya tumatanggi tuwing binibigyan ko siya. after sometime hindi ko alam kung napagod siya or nabore ayaw na niya. i wonder if i am doing something wrong? ang advise nang pedia huwag muna palitan ang naintroduce na food for 1week (so 1week squash lang siya) so hindi ko naman mapalitan

My daughter's eating solids for a month now. Good thing she's not a picky eater, unlike her Kuya. At first, bananas and mangoes pinapa-tikim namin sa kanya. When I felt she was ready, I bought Earth's Best. My dad suggested that I feed her with EB jarred food for a month muna, since it's organic naman and formulated for babies talaga. It worked for her naman.
There was this instance kasi na the mom fed her baby with mashed sweet potatoes, the baby's eating a lot naman, then suddenly, the baby turned blue. It turns out, di pala nya na-digest ng maayos the sweet potato. She stayed in the hospital for a month. :(

So anyway, we feed her with home-prepared meals now. Carrots, squash, sweet potatoes and the likes. We boil it first then blend it para same consistency like the jarred baby food. Wala naman hassle sa transition. We just feed her with EB when we go out.
And so far, the big jar, 2 meals nya lang. And she eats Marie and Gerber Puffs na rin pala. :)

^^ before we fed her kamote, we tried am first to see how she would react. She uses her lips to get the food eh, not her tongue so i think wala nang extrusion reflex non.

^^kimebies, kawawa naman the baby who was hospitized for a month :( kaya siguro ako gagawin ko start ng once a day muna tapos every other day, one type of food for 5 days.

^lisa, how to make am? Yun ba yung sabaw nung sinaing?

Sam, sorry forgot to answer yung am question mo. yes, yung tubig ng sinaing. bago maubos yung water, kuha ka ng konti. some add sugar or salt but we gave it plain kasi it was to see lang if she was ready for a spoon and yon nga, kung may extrusion reflex pa. i think we gave that for mga 3 days then we stopped for a few days before we finally gave kamote.

Sam, same tyo. Yun din ang unang pinayagan kay v. Rice cereal.. Hindi muna yung ibang mga may halo. So lugaw mixed with veggies pinakain namin. Like squash.. You also need special teats for the am like your variable teats ni avent for thicker fluids.

Ang gusto ko matutunan ngayon ay how to prepare yummy but healthy table food na pwede na sa 1 yo    :-[

At 11 mos, we were advised na twice a day labg pakainn bec kokonti ang milk intake nya and kelangan pa nya daw yun.. Madami ang nakakan nya.. Yung bowl sa pigeon eating set, mga 2/3 nun ubos nya in one meal. Then she eats grapes or papaya. She also likes yohgurt. Ngayon, isang ensaymada ubos na din nya.. Mahilig sya sa bread kesa sa rice  :-\

^^ Sis, what yogurt do you give? I read somewhere na dapat whole milk yogurt. May ganun ba? My baby's 7 mos and I'm not sure kung pwede na siya sa ganun and dun sa mga nestle w/ fruit yogurts. TIA!

my problem with camote (gave my son the yellow/orange sweet potato, supposedly sweeter kind) is that I just found them solidified into small, hard particles in my son's poop (yes, I check what he takes in, and what he lets out)... basically, hindi nya nada-digest :D so I am skipping the twice a day feeding until I see signs he's able to digest better... no use kasi giving him two solid meals of non-digestible food kasi he'd lose out on nutrients, eh di mag-milk na lang sya :D

i'm only delaying naman.. and i will repeat the camote again. I just bought jarred Earth's Best stuff that I know I won't prepare at home (carrots, peas, pears) for variety and if i'm too lazy... he loves papaya though (yeah, apart from sayote, we're mostly yellow-eaters, hehe) and i've been looking for a nice avocado...

amazing lang din... i never made these observations before w/ my firstborn, who I fed mostly Cerelac
