Sipsip ba kayo sa in-laws nyo?
« on: April 26, 2011, 02:46:46 pm »
Sipsip ba kayo sa in-laws nyo? for better choice of words...pa-impress? pa best-foot forward?
Or you truly, truthfully Like/Love your in-laws?

I am NOT. And I am beginning to think it is a not-good (not exactly bad) thing to do, Why? Because the ones who are nice and SS(short for sipsip) are getting all the perks and benefits from an in-law. Now I'll have to defend myself for not having the bones to be a SS Daughter-in-law, I have a history with the MIL, and I tend to forgive but I don't necessarily forget. And hindi ko din magawang maging plastic na be nice pero hindi truthful sa pakiramdam ko. Siguro sa iba easyng easy lang maging plastic.
I am certainly civil towards my MIL, just a simple greeting and smile, yun lang ginagawa ko, I sometimes give gifts/presents on special occasions. And with that...being distant, I get to enjoy being the Queen to my husband's eye and to my own kids, and household, because he too, doesn't like his own mom, I sometimes push him pa to do favors for his mom. It's a diffferent story, because he too, has a history with his own mom, from way back their childhood and courtesy of yours truly.  ;D

Please answer the Q ladies... :)

no i'm not.... hanggat maaari ayoko makausap MIL ko kasi nahihiya ako  ;D, ala lang yun ang nararamdaman ko e, pero kapag dumarating siya galing greece (dun kasi work niya at citizen na din siya dun) lagi may gift sa akin at ke baby ko, pero si baby ko sawa lagi sa package, puro sapatos at damit pwede na  nga ako magbenta e  ;D..pero i make sure na i always use po & opo during our conversation and with ma always (sign of paggalang sa ilokano  na babangitin mo ang name like : ma, pa, ading, manang, manong, ante, uncle, amanng, inang) kahit sasagot ka ng "opo" lagi nasusundan ng pangalan/tawag mo sa kausap mo...

when regards with the gift, never pa ako nagbigay hehe, i just greet her in every occasion but i never give gift to my MIL, sa SIL ko at mga anak nia at asawa nagbigay na ako, nakaugalian ko na rin kasi yun kahit sa family namin, kung sino ang mga kasama ko sa bahay kung birthday or pasko may gift sila lahat from me pero name ng baby ko ang nakalagay kung kanino galing...

mabait ang MIL ko at SIL so with my bayaw, and sa mga pamangkin ko sa asawa ( 5 sila 2 lang kasi silang magkapatid hubby & ate) ala akong masabi sa kanila...pero IMO lang naman mararamdaman naman ni MIL kung sipsip ka lang or hindi e, or magaling ka lang talagang mambola at si MIL e madaling mabola  ;D...

No, not at all. I find that the perks and benefits that they can potentially give me do not equate to the perks and benefits of them respecting my boundaries when it comes to me and my children. Hindi ako ma-compromiso na tao to begin with and I am much more unyielding when it comes to how I run my household.

No, I am not, BUT I realized that I should. Ewan ko ba, I know that they mean well, pero madalas nauunahan ako ng inis sa kanila.

joining.....

I usually give them (MIL, SIL, nephews, nieces) gifts on special occassions or minsan kahit walang okasyon. Ganun din kasi sila towards me... saka I'm super asikaso naman when I'm there in their house so guess hindi sipsip ang tawag dun kasi mutual naman.. maganda lang ang samahan namin.. sometimes i get irritated din and it's normal. wala namang perfect.  :)

no, and never will be! but, im nice to them.

may issues din kasi ako sa MIL and SIL ko. actually, even before na wala pa kaming issue, hindi talaga ako paimpress sa kanila para lang magustuhan nila ako or para maging kunchaba ko sila.

as much as possible, ayoko nagkakasalubong kami. if ever man na magmeet kami, say in the kitchen, or sala, or anywhere, i give them my plain smile. plain smile lang, because smiles have a lot of meaning to me, lalo na yung smile nila sakin na puno ng kaplastican.

pero naman, yung hubby ng SIL ko, yan ang certified sipsip at paimpress!

ako naman, hindi ako sipsip sa mga in-laws ko.. and i am lucky kasi parang favorite nila ako ;), i don't know why.. shy type kasi ako and never ako nakipag-away sa kanila.. i just keep quiet if ever may di ako gusto. maasikaso sila sa akin whenever i go to their houses. and MIL ko nman, lagi siya nagbibigay ng gift sa akin..

minsan nga sinasabi ni hubby, parang ako daw ang tunay na anak compared sa mga sisters nya.
[textspeak!] mabait lang talaga ako..LOL :D

^ who wouldnt love you sis ali.. :)

parang ang hirap naman i-brand as SIPSIP yung nakikisama or nagccreate ng good impression, in my honest opinion, sa inlaws man or not, we always go with our best foot forward, kaya nga andaming ugali na naka-reserve lang na "pang loob ng bahay" which you and your husband lang ang magkakapansinan.

--edited to add : comments based on my observation sa personal acquaintances ko, not posting this to insult or to offend previous posters here--

i find it ipokrito/ipokrita that some people dont want to be in good terms or be even close sa inlaws nila, when we know for a fact na pamilya mo na din yan eh, bakit hindi mo pakisamahan ng matino, if ever sa simula eh hindi ka nila gusto, part din ng responsibility mo as a good wife/husband na pakisamahan ng matino at kuhanin ang loob ng inlaws mo. to avoid trouble rin sa future. kadalasan kasi kaya hindi nagiging okay ang samahan, nagkakaron ng pataasan ng pride eh, lalo na mga wife to MIL relationships, tandaan nyo ramdam din naman ng mga inlaws nyo if you dont wanna make yourself comfortable when theyre around. kaya dont expect na sila ang gagawa ng step to win you, it wouldnt hurt na ako ang gagawa ng move to make them see what their son/brother/whatever loved about me. and personally, ayoko naman na dumidistansya ang asawa ko sa mga immediate relatives ko na close sakin, so I wouldnt do the same thing to him.

kadalasan, ang nakikita kong may meddling issues e yung mga mag-inlaws na hindi maganda samahan, based on observation lang ha. if youre in good terms and okay ang samahan nyo ng inlaws mo, you wouldnt have any problems with regards sa pagmeddle nila about how you run the household, how you raise the kids, etc..

^babyjapnurse, sis, pwede naman makisama sa inlaws ng hindi sumisipsip or paimpress. yun kasi yung topic, so some says no, some says yes. hindi naman porke sinabing "no", e hindi na pinakikisamahan ng matino ang inlaws. ofcourse, all of us wants to be in good terms with them. be nice. yun lang, iba ang nakikisama ng maayos, sa sumisipsip. most of us can figure that out easily. hope i did not offend you sis. just my honest pov.

sabi mo nga, depende yan sa mag inlaws. so hindi rin natin alam kung bakit sipsip sila or not. kung bakit maayos ang relationship nila at kung bakit hindi. sila lang ang nakakaalam. :-)

^^ hi, no worries, i was just actually sharing my observation sa mga kakilala ko na ayaw talaga makisama sa mga inlaws nila, yung tipong ayaw sumama pag may family gathering sa side ng hubby nya, mga ganung instances..

yung pagpapaimpress naman, i guess thats normal. syempre part ng pakikisama yun, pero yung going beyond yung mga simpleng pa-goodshot, ibang usapan na yun, some people take "pakikisama" to a next level na rin naman, we cant deny that. Basta for me walang masama sa pakikisama if its done sincerely, pero pag plastic and may intention lang to get whatever "benefits" there is, then yun na ang matatawag kong sipsip. :)

Would you care to expound on why you find it hypocritical for other people to not exert any effort to be close to their inlaws? Because frankly, our quality of life is not affected by whether or not they are around so I really don't get the necessity. Even my own husband is not thrilled to be around them all the time. So I guess I am not understanding the brazen accusation of hypocrisy that you have made.

^^ thats the reason why i said "some", im not generalizing na ALL people who are not in good terms or those who are not exerting efforts to be close to their inlaws are hypocrites. i was just stating my opinion and sharing my honest observation based on the people i personally know. lets face it, madaming mga magulang ng lalaki ang mas choosy pa than the parents ng babae, and those wives na kilala ko na hindi type ng inlaws nila, gusto naman talaga maging close sa kanila, but then nagpapadala nalang sa fact na their inlaws doesnt like them kaya they choose not to do something about it kahit na meron naman silang pwedeng gawin to mend the gap, samantalang sila eh naiinis whenever their hubbies doesnt wanna tag along with them sa family gatherings nila. thats the reason why I used the term "hypocrite" kasi nga gusto naman talaga nila, yun nga lang nagppretend nalang sila na ayaw nila, cant understand if takot mapahiya (kahit na hindi naman ugali ng pamilya na mamahiya), or what.

there are 2 cases na ganyan sa family ko, relatives ko both ang lalaki, and yung mga aunt ko medyo hindi boto sa wives nila for one simple reason -- di rin nila maramdaman yung sincerity na gusto nung dalawang inlaws makisama sa kanila. whenever we have family gatherings, the wives are parang anino lang ng cousins ko, di manlang nakikipagkwentuhan, they dont even wanna start even small talk lang, thats why we cant figure out why they have to feel intimidated or uneasy. Di ko naman masabi na nahihiya, kasi kung nahihiya yun sana manlang makisama din ng konti, considering one of those two na babae, aunt ko pa nagsupport sa studies nya nung college, she got preggy early kasi and wasnt able to enter college, so nag-start sila mag live in at the age of 17, aunt ko sumagot ng bahay na tinirahan nila even yung expenses araw araw (cousin was still studying in college that time), and when it reached the point that the girl was ready to study again, ayaw na sha suportahan ng parents nya, so my cousin talked to her mom to ask for help sa studies ng wife nya, and my aunt gladly obliged. walang mahirap na usap, ang problema lang talaga, si girl parang may sariling mundo pag may affair ang family and nagkikitakita. samantalang sa kanya sobrang laking issue if may family affair and my cousin couldnt come because of work.

but syempre we cant discount naman na may cases na may issues talaga sa family yung mismong partner, syempre in those cases we cant expect naman the wives/hubbies to be close to the inlaws when yung mismong partner nila hindi nga masyadong at ease with their own family. which could apply naman dun sa side ng family nung wife ng cousin ko, medyo maka-luma kasi ang values so parang tinakwil yung wife ni cousin since maaga napreggy, and ilang years na lumipas, theyre still blaming my cousin kung bakit "nasira" daw buhay ng anak nila kasi hindi nakapag-tapos on time, so ayun, awkward moment each time may family gathering, since medyo bastos yung father nung girl, minsan nakakapagthrow ng remarks na hindi maganda even when there are other people around, so minsan parang ayaw na rin lang sumama ni cousin sa kanila..

sorry if some people found my initial post insulting, but i didnt mean naman to insult anyone here, i was just sharing my observation sa mga nakikita kong scenarios sa family/acquaintances ko.

*apologies for the super nobela post, napa vent out na rin ako ng konti haha!*

Thanks for the clarification. Parang a case of "kung ayaw mo sa akin, ayaw ko rin sa iyo!"
That's true, I guess may mga ganon nga. Parang defense mechanism na rin lang.

I think initially naman everyone wants to have a harmonious relationship with the inlaws. But some people din naman kasi, walang "best foot forward". I think I'm one of those people. What you see is what you get. Then my MIL naman is super sensitive and super gutom for affirmation. I guess she wants us to be best friends but we simply just don't gel. My [textspeak!] naman and I, mas magkasundo and I think she gets jealous so she always fishes for praise and compliments. And while I guess I can humor her, parang di ko ma-take because it sounds so insincere on my part and parang I'm lying. It's so totally against my principles.
So if I make sipsip, I guess I can make her happy pero parang I tainted my dignity naman. So wag na lang. Better her miserable than me. LOL
