Pros and Cons of Living in a Condominium against living in a house

For some reason, I'm not too keen on buying a condo or a house and lot. I'm more of a renter. I love living somewhere very near-ish my workplace regardless of it being a house or a condo. Kaso, most ng malapit are condos.

I  want to live near so I have more time to rest, to spend time with my husband, do more extra-curricular activities other than work, and para less stress ng mahabang biyahe. Currently, I live in a low-rise condo sa groundfloor with space to afford a little gardening. Somehow, I feel like I have the best of both.

a house with a big, unkempt yard. growing up, i realized the best lessons in life and how nature takes is course may be learned by walking around an unkempt yard. the fittest will survive and you don't know what you're gonna come across with.

We were pondering over this for a while and really opted for a townhouse. Since the developer is well known, may amenities and maganda ang community, we got it narin.

I've been living in a condo ever since I became independent. Pero now that I have a child mas gusto ko na ng townhouse or house and lot.

@stormy, I'm not sure. The building I'm sure it depreciates. Pero yung condo, if you buy it at pre-sale value, definitely tataas ang market value nya once it's done. I'm not sure kapag nabili mo nang buo na, pero based on some of my friends, tumaas pa rin ang market value ng properties nila. I think it depends on supply and demand. There are properties, lalo na yung mga nasa prime locations na tumataas pa rin ang market value.

Pero I think as the building ages, mag-nonormalize pa rin sya and/ or bababa ang value.

Rae, the difficult part with condos is may mga issues na about earthquakes.  Before getting married, plan to magrent ng condo muna sa may st francis near shang.  I drove a friend there, ganda niya.

I'm not too afraid of earthquakes. Well, I am. Pero kasi, whether you live in house and lot, or in a condo, if an earthquake that strong hits us. We can die wherever we are. We might not even be where we live when earthquake strikes.

Talaga d nag aappreciate ang condo?

This is not true. Condo appreciates especially if its in a great location. Lesson: Never buy a condo that's still considerably far from the conveniences of life. It just simply doesn't make sense.

well let's see. I don't think that "the columns" for example which was bought for 1.5 to 2mil more than 6 to 7  years ago can be sold for less than that. Or Cityland condo's which was sold for less than 500K 10 years ago are out in the market for less than that. If they are, message me. and you have to consider that a bubble was created prior to the 1997 asian crisis which means that real estate were sold on a "bubble rate" during that time. Unless of course you have lived long enough to observe such trends. This is a new phenomenon so a sweeping generalization is dangerous especially if you are a real estate agent.

and if there's one thing that the housing crisis taught us back in 2008 -  even land depreciates and when I say depreciates, zero value. It is the law of supply and demand that dictates the appreciation and depreciation. So may demand ba sa house na nasa ikapitong bundok o sa condo na paglabas mo ay Shangrila Mall?

this is a dilemma for me and my fiance.. my parents are giving us a place here in pinas with a sizable budget for a newlywed couple. the lure of condos is very strong - safety, good surroundings, small area to clean but big enough for 2, etc etc.. but the issue that creeps out all the time is that we will never have a title of the land that we live in.

so now, we are looking for a modest size townhouse in a very good location. we realized that the condo presents pros but it is more "in the now" rather than the future.

personally, house pa din. although madami din namang advantages pag sa condo. depende na lang talaga sa preference mo and choice of location.

ang isang ayoko sa condo, hindi ka makakilos maigi kasi maiingayan yung mga tao na katapat ng unit mo sa may baba. my parents has a condo unit in fort bonifacio. walang nag-iistay doon, unless gabihin ng uwi yung brother ko instead of going home doon na lang siya mag-stay. during hubby's vacation nag-overnight stay kami doon sa condo. when we arrived, my son got a bit excited and was running here and there pero slow-paced pa din naman. later on may tao na sa labas ng unit (owner ng unit sa baba) w/ the guard requesting to tone it down a bit kasi daw they're sleeping na (in all fairness late na din kasi noon, mga around 10pm). although sa house you still have to be considerate about the sound of your music para huwag makaistorbo ng kapitbahay, sa condo pigil ang galaw mo na parang hindi sayo yung tinitiran mo.

@pagirllang, I'd have to agree with you. Tulad din nung mga nasalanta ng ondoy before. Yung mga may lupa sa marikina. I would think mababa na ang value ng lupa dun. Same goes for earthquakes.

Anyhow, I'm not really pro-buying properties kasi, I feel like it can tie me down. Sa situation ko, mas economical mag-rent and save my money somewhere where it's more liquid. Hindi ko din kasi naiisip yung may ipapamana ako and yung 'building roots'. Maybe I'm just not traditional. Naisip ko kasi, like now, I don't value my stake on inheriting my parents' properties.  My siblings can have  the properties all to themselves if they want.

Choosing between a condo and a house is a lifestyle choice more than anything. I honestly don't think one is better than the other.

i have tried both and i prefer syempre a house over a condo unit.. sa opinyon ko, okay yung condo kasi accessible sya sa lahat tapos may amenities na sa loob. mas bagay siguro sya sa mga busy na tao. pero pag may family na, mas okay yung bahay talaga.. kasi mas malawak e tapos may lupa kang sayo.

My sister bought a condo in acqua    The proposed place is nice pero I got a townhouse narin talaga sa eton.

For a limited budget to choose just 1 between a house and lot and a Condo, i still choose a
house and lot, na for me ay reasonable ang distance and time for commute, hinde mataas toll fees  papunta sa workplace if using your own transport, house and lot with good security and with close proximity to business estabs, with all of these conveniences of a house and lot na 100 sqm 3 bedroom, mas pipiliin ko to, instead of a 20sqm studio unit condo na same price lang din.

Not all subdivisions are in Bulacan or Laguna na ang taas ng toll fees and masyado malayo. Not all spots in Marikina, Cainta, Antipolo are binabaha, Not all areas in Cavite are traffic on the way to work. A lot of housing projects are located in Q.C and Manila area. My point here is that don't be discourage with choosing a house and lot just because of the experience of other people na would take 2-3 hours just to arrive at their homes, or that their house got flooded during Ondoy.

Madami na housing developments now that are conveniently located near or within the metro. You just need to do your research and look for reviews on matters that are important to you, e.g security, close proximity, convenient location etc.

You also need to be updated with the future developments within that area, like magkakaroon ba or under construction na ang express way or a high speed rail project near that housing area, thereby reducing the travel and traffic time, does the govt plan to extend the LRT near that realty project, hint: LRT extension project in Bacoor - http://www.lrta.gov.ph/projl1_south.htm.

Mukha lang malayo ang cavite, pero if you work in Makati, distance is comparable if you're from fairview Q.C. And if you work on a night shift schedule, sobrang convenient because walang traffic, sm bacoor area to Fort taguig is just 20 mins travel time by car

House pa din, I love to host family get together so, we need a space.

Although we are considering to get a condo, kaysa mag boarding house ang aking 3rd year college na daughter.  Malayo kasi kami - school is in Caloocan our house is in Marilao.
