Luz - ang mahal! LOL!  Mas mahal nga ang membership fee kesa tuition fee!

Kim - Yes, Mandaluyong ako sis! Plainview lang, pero renting lang kame dito. Eventually, we plan to get a townhouse kaya side by side din ang pagpili ng school ni Y. Kaloka! nagbasa ako dun sa mom exchange, dami ko natutunan. Humanda si hubby sa brainstorming namin later.  Halos same lang naman at tuition ng Poveda at OB Montessori?

kimdimatulac,yes sis, kung compute ko tuition niya sa school na pinapasukan niya today, halos 80k din pumapatak. One year na yan. Hindi pa yan montessori ha, private kindergarten lang. Ang montessori dito halos umabot ng 200k yearly. Nakakaloka.

o nga, pero para sa anak natin, pikit mata   importante kase maganda yung foundation nila.  Next year ko pa 'to isipin [textspeak!] di pa naman sya mag aaral this year, pero naka set na mind ko sa Montesori   Pero mag check pa din naman ako bandang Makati area, baka may maganda din dun.  Mag inquire pa ko at magbasa basa sa kabilang thread.

About popcorn, napa susmiyo ko pagka basa ko dito kase guilty ko, pinapakain ko si Yuel ng popcorn e.  Favorite nya kase yung chef tonys na white cheddar.  Naku naku, sana di pa huli ang lahat.  May stock pa naman ako kakabili ko kahapon ng 2 big container nun

Purely Montessori pa rin ba ang OB or may halong traditional?

My classmate in high school transferred to OB Montessori in third year.  Okay naman siya, sa UP Diliman din siya nag-college.

I don't exactly agree with the notion that if you are in an all-girls school, you are too sheltered, prone to homosexuality, etc., that the school does not reflect the real world.  The first two issues are addressed by a good home life, close family ties especially with the mother, a good sense of self-esteem (tingin ko ang mga tibo-tibo sa school ko dati may feelings of inadequacy).  Yung not being in the real world - kami dati sa Holy Spirit, we would always go out to do outreach work which the nuns highly encouraged.  Saka, marami naman sa amin may brothers or cousins or neighbors na lalaki kaya hindi naman puro girls lang nakakahalubilo namin.  And hello, there are soirees and interactions (school-sanctioned pa nga) with boys' schools.  So hindi kami deprived of male companionship.  Ang downside lang talaga is may tendency mag-asawa nang maaga ang mga taga-girls' school. 

And yes, we had sex ed in high school.  I remember that hirap na hirap kaming i-figure out ang Billings method and bilangin kung kelan ang ovulation based on our period.

Ang advantages naman:

1.  The Catholic upbringing and instilling of traditional values
2.  Girls are competitive by nature and the environment encourages students to excel in academics and sports.
3.  For those who are normal, like me, meaning hindi tibo, ma-boyfriend or anything, mas nakaka-focus nga kami sa studies.  Hindi nakaka-conscious mag-recite, hindi nakakahiya mag-change ng clothes in front of each other kapag PE, etc.
4.  The lifelong friendships forged in all-girls schools are deeply fulfilling and incomparable.   I have many sets of friends - law school friends, UP Econ friends, SGV friends, work friends, etc., but my closest friends, the ones who know me inside out, are my high school friends.  magkukumare nga kami ngayon.

Jen, mas gusto ko ang Poveda.  If I had a girl, sa Poveda ko rin ipapasok.

jen, may nagmention dito kanina eh.. 80k daw ang OB then 100k ang poveda?

parang mejo nagbago isip ko about schools. naisip ko, it might be good kung isang grade school at high school na lang si katie. if that's the case, this is what i have in mind na:

pre-school: the bridge school/maria montessori or if mandaluyong, ob montessori
grade school and high school: zobel/bene or if makati, csa
college: la salle or UP

hehe.. di pa nga nagpplano for katie's first birthday, school na agad inaasikaso.

marose, not sure now sis. dati purely montessori. you're from holy naman pala. i haven't heard much stories about homosexuality sa holy. ang kilala kong rampant about this are st. paul, ac, st. scho, and miriam. maybe because sa holy, your school is surrounded pa din naman by boys and it's near ceu so somehow you are partly exposed. also, it could be with the way that the school is being run or it's own culture. my stereotype of girls coming from exclusive schools actually come from stories i heard about the schools i mentioned. as i have previously said, my sister is from miriam and i do not like how she and her friends act. moreso, stories they talk about. it's either they talk about boys or they about their school friends who are "mag-on".

Kim, when my kids turned 2, sobrang search na ko for schools.  October pa lang during the year prior to the school year I planned to enroll my kids, nag-school visits na kami.  I even read Maria Montessori's The Absorbent Mind. 

Ito ang recommended sites ko about Montessori:  www.montessori.org, www.montessori-ami.org, the Montessori Mama,

Global Mama has blog posts comparing the different preschool philosophies: Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, etc.

And yes, okay ang blog ni Teacher Tina Zamora.  That was my primer on preschools hehe.

 Marose - nalilito nga ako actually kaya ginawa kong option ang OB montessori, pero iba din pala ang montessori school sa progressive school. Basta ang alam ko, gusto ko ng progressive school!  And then, pumasok sa isip ko what you mentioned about homesexuality nga, na if may maayos na pamilya at tama naman upbringing ng mga magulang sa anak, etc malayo na maging tibo or magkaroon ng same sex relationship ang bata. Actually, nasabi na din ni hubby yan before pa pag nagdi-discuss kame about bakla or tibo, he always tells me may problema daw psychologically mga ganun (sorry po sa mga may kakilala na 3rd sex, pasintabi po). And so, at a higher percentage pa din ang Poveda sakin.

Good thing na-topic natin ito, at least pala as early as now eh mapaguusapan na namin ni hubby kung san mag-school si Y. Honestly, di pa namin na-topic ito, now pa lang paguwi niya  There are times pag dumadaan kame along Poveda, we'll discuss a bit pero not as serious as our IM's kanina. LOL!

Dami ko na din nabasa about Progressive school vs. Traditional school vs. Montessori school vs Multiple Intelligence. Ang dami pala!

Jen, okay naman mag-research research para maging familiar tayo sa mga methodologies ng schools, para na rin ma-assess natin kung saan fit ang anak natin.

Nagustuhan ko ang Montessori method kasi ang thrust nila talaga is to make each child self-reliant.  Tapos, ang importance na binibigay sa practical life skills is the same as academics.  Also, very clear ang philosophy ni Maria Montessori about how a child learns.  It is based on her very own research and experiences when she put up her first casa in Italy.  Tried and tested na ang kanyang method.  Saka, madali kasing makita kung Montessori or Montessori-like ang school.

Sa progressive schools naman like MI, Nest, Bridge, etc. iba-iba kasi ang basis ng philosophy and methodology nila so nalilito ako.  Tapos, may schools claiming to be progressive pero traditional talaga.

May magandang preschool sa San Juan-Mandaluyong area, by the way.  Explorations ang name.  Bank Street method naman, progressive approach din.  Ang blog author ng mom exchange, si Jen Tan (incidentally of LATCH din pala siya), classmate ko sa college.  Sa Explorations nag-preschool ang kids niya and all praises siya sa school.

ano sis ang ayaw mo sa Creative dyan sa Merville? Medyo okay ang tuition fee eh. Hindi kaya ang MM eh. One time fee lang ba yung 48k+ na yun?

Dito sa SG, ang tuition ni kyle (convert to peso) is amounting to P132k annual. 10 students per class. 2 teachers. 2hours per class. Twice a week. Kung base mo sa number of hours sa school, mas mahal nga dito. Pero at par kasi sa sweldo sa tingin ko. Kung ang household income is $10k combined, tapos $350 sa tuition per month, madaling ma-i-ahon.

Ang problema ko pag gusto ko mailayo si Kyle sa singlish and send ko sya sa International School, $18k-20K annual na sya. That's $1.5k a month.

Sa pinas, P130k annual. 11k Pesos a month ang tuition. Household income 100k (nett), kayang kaya din.

Marose, i agree with what you said about exclusive schools. Nasa upbringing din, family life, etc. My nieces who go to poveda, thank God, walang ganyan. Kaya poveda pa din choice ko.

For pre-school, iniintindi kp pa yung difference ng progressive sa montessori. I definitely want either of the 2, ayaw ko nv traditional.

Yung summit dito sa fort, progressive using bank street din. I tried reading up on bank street pero di ko pa maintindihan.

Marose, nag-SGV ka pala? Which division? Tax? Nag-SGV din ako per sa consulting.

My other niece went naman to st theresa's college (exclusive for girls) for high school then ateneo for college. Her brother naman ateneo high school and now ateneo college. They both went to grade school ag mont michel montessori.

Ako naman and ond of my cousins st paul qc for high school. And my other cousins stc also. Wala naman kami on-on.

I think ang ideal talaga is co-ed for grade school, exclusive for high school,  co-ed for college. Pero wala akong basis for saying that. Tingin ko lang. Pero depende din talaga sa family life.

lisa, makikisabat ako. army navy is along president's ave lang, near conti's and greenwich. parang may point yung theory mo na co-ed, exclusive, co-ed. coz high school, puberty years, jan nagsstart magexplore ang mga bata. although i think naman, okay din na same grade school and high school ang bata para hindi naman palipat lipat and kelangan lagi magadjust. i share your sentiments about being confused sa progressive and montessori. hehe basta feel ko okay sila pareho than traditional.

Korek! or siguro, high pa din tayo sa pagiging mga "new moms" kaya over over pa yung happiness natin  pero kasi si hubby, gusto nya talaga- 2 man lang... we'll see.
