Best Bank to Open a Checking account

I called BPI family here in Ortigas, and the guy who answered, said na as long as:

1. with valid ID (govt or company)
2. 5K deposit / maintaining
3. pref. working within the area

eh good to be approved ka for checking account.

Walang requirement na existing bank account with BPI Family when we opened the checking account with them.  Approved agad yung account application namin and yung checkbook nakuha namin after a week.  Joint checking account yung inopen namin.

PS Bank din walang required na existing bank account.  Hubby got approved din dito pero pina-close din namin agad yung account since we got one in BPI Family na a day after nag-apply si Hubby.

Yan din sabi sa akin ng bpi family when I asked them, kaya tuloy ni-recommend ko sa kakilala ko. My friend really felt discriminated against when he tried to open an account sa quezon ave tapos kailangan may supporting documents pa sya while sa others wala naman. Feeling nya ayaw lang sya pagbuksan talaga. Siguro naman alam ng officer that he cannot obtain the contract of lease without the PDCs first. He works in the area, he has the IDs, he has the money, he has no bad record. He was totally turned off by them at that point. I like bpi and I rarely ever have a problem with them, pero medyo nainis din ako sa incident na ito, sa totoo lang.

China bank is only 5k initial deposit/maintaining balance for checking account, may checkbook passbook and atm. Makakaearn pa ng interest pag nasa 20k ang ADB mo.

mga sis I want to convert my BPI Family maxi-saver savings to a checking account. hihingian pa kaya ko ng ID pic, or 2 valid IDs plus forms lang? ID pics kasi pinakahate kong requirements

i checked with China Bank and East West, both are saying na kelangan me 6 mos. daw na savings account na with the bank.  Similar with Maybank.  Pero me sinasabi din sila na depende sa branch. Ano yon, walang consistency sa mga procedures?  Ayoko din ng BDO, na-trauma ako when I wanted to open for a passbook account, hassle sa dami ng requirements tapos sabi ko nga last time, I inquired sa call center nila, ang binigay lang na requirements that time were so and so.  Nong nasa branch na ako, super dami ng hinihinig, hehe.  Sa AUB na ko nag-open non ng passbook.

Opened a checking account in BPI Family. 5k initial deposit to open an account. Then mabilis lang din i-release yung checkbook.

After how many days before mo nakuha sis ang checkbook? thanks

I have checking account with China Bank. I have savings account pero different branch dun sa pinagbuksan ko ng checking account. 5k maintaining. May passbook at atm na kasama yung checking account so madali i-monitor. So far, okay naman.

Some branches will have different procedures depending on their general client profile.

Kung ang branch nila maraming incidences ng account holders na nagba-bounce ang mga checks, mas strict sila. Or kung may history sila na nafa-file-an ng case na estafa ang mga account holders, lalong mas strict din.

They want to make sure that the potential checking account holder will not be a bouncer or an estafa-case, so they want someone they know (meaning may account na sa kanila) or vouched for by someone they know (recommended by existing account holder) or someone willing to introduce themselves and get known by the bank (talk to a branch manager at length and tell them about yourself and your financial history).

Sis may required na balance sa savings mo ba para makapag open ng account sa Chinabank? Kasi Planning to open ng checking account pero ang savings ko sa ibang branch pa.

Ang hassle tong BDO, iba iba ang patakaran. Noong nag open ako dati ng checking walang nirequire na amount sa savings ko tapos kanina mag oopen sana ako sa ibang branch nirerequire ako ng atleast 50k na balance sa savings ko para makapag open sa checking... hay naku!

So I opened mine sa BPI. I opened a Savings account. A week after, I opened a CA. Sabi ko itratransfer ko yung balance ko from Family Savings. Pumayag naman yung branch. Ayaw pa nung una. Hinihingan ako ng kung-ano-ano.

A few years back, I had a checking account with Citystate Savings. Kaso sinara ko na rin, kasi ang layo ng branches from me, kailangan ko pang sadyain.

Now, I have a checking account with BPI Family. I have an Easy Saver account with BPI and our payroll is with BPI din. Nag-inquire lang ako muna sa BPI Family near our area of residence, tapos pina-fill out ako ng personal information form, tapos sabi niya ipapa-approve lang daw niya sa manager.

I told the rep naman for what purpose yung pag-open ko ng checking, which is pambayad ko ng loan ko kasi nagsara yung checking account ng sister ko from Eastwest na joint account holder ako. And of course, pambayad na rin ng tuition ng mga bata in the future. I also told her na may old credit card ako pero hindi na active.

So after a few minutes, bumalik na siya ang told me na approved yung application ko and I can go ahead and open na. Filled out forms, signed documents. I just presented my UMID, I think 1x1 ID picture (buti nalang may extra pa ako), paid the 5k opening fee and 300+ for the checkbook (yung 100 pages nalang kasi ang available that time kaya 300+ siya, if yung 50 pages lang nasa 175 lang yung checkbook).

Nakuha ko rin checkbook ko the same day. The ATM card binalikan ko nalang after a week. December 2016 ako nag-open ng checking account with BPI Family.

Usually strict talaga mga banks for checking accounts especially for walk in clients.

I agree with @wanderingsiblings.

The reason na kailangan mag maintain nang 6 mos savings account is to build relationship with the client. Pag strict yung bank na they have to ask for proof documents they are doing due dilligence lang when opening a new account kasi mahirap din pag balikan yung bank especially the employees if merong fraud.

In terms of convenience, I would recommend bdo though i have metrobank and china bank as well.  BDO is convenient kasi even on weekends, the mall branches are open.  There was this one time that I issued 500k and wrote 500 pesos only and pinagbigyan ako.  I felt valued as a client na pina-go ang check.

In that regard, wag sasama loob if they ask for requirements.  If hindi nila tayo kilala, that's just natural for them to ask.  Importante is to take care of our name para next time they will value us as a client.

Does anybody here applied for checking account at BPI? Ilang days kaya processing pag magaapply ka ng checking account with them? I'm a long term customer and have good credit standing both savings account and credit card.

Hi Ladies, for those who are looking for a bank that allows you to apply for a checking account without having a savings account for a minimum of 6months, you can try the following banks.
1. Security Bank 5K Initial deposit with 25K ADB (checkbook with passbook and atm, you can get it within the day)
2. PSBank 10K Initial deposit with 5K ADB (checkbook only, I was asked to provide my details for verification and was approved in 3days - i had back and forth text messages with a the bank representative for additional details)
3. CityState Bank 5K Initial Deposit with 5K ADB (checkbook only, i wanted to get the Citi Max account but was offered the other account, you can get it within the day.
Note: These banks will ask you to pay 175 for the checkbook.

It is best to open an account first with a trusted bank and then a checking account with the same bank.  It easier to open a checking account or other bank services if you already have an account with them.  But basing from experience I can say madali kausap si metrobank and bdo.

^hi sis,

in my case, sa eastwest bank no hassle pag-open ng checkibg account. they did not require me to have a savings account in their bank. i just applied then the following day may result na. i just paid 175 for the checkbook then maintaining balance of 10k. inquire ka na lang sis sa nearest bank malapit sa inyo. in case may savings accoubt ka with other banks for at least 6 months, mabilis na dapat na ma-grant application mo on their checking account.
