Best Bank to Open a Checking account

^Yes sis anytime you can open an account. Wala ng background checking in my part. I am a BDO client since 2007 tapos 2014 ako nag open ng checking account and its hassle free naman.

hi mga sis, sa amin nalang kayo open madali lang basta wala kayong negative data findings...if wala pa account sa amin pwede naman medyo mataas lang initial deposit...pm niyo lang ako for the details

Opened a checking account in BPI Family. 5k initial deposit to open an account. Then mabilis lang din i-release yung checkbook.

Choosing between opening a checking account with BPI and BDO. Gusto ko na kasi isara ang Metrobank checking ko. I have long-time savings with BPI, pero gusto kong subukan din BDO kasi nabasa ko somewhere here na pag nag-open ka ng account with them na malaki ang deposit, 500k up, they offer you a credit card (hindi the secured kind ha) and I wanna get one from them. True ba eto?

bank of commerce has the lowest maintaining balance that i know for checking. pero you have to have other banking products with them (savings account, etc) for a minimum of 6 months before you can get a checking account from them.

Regular credit card sana. Kasi yung secured card ang kelangan mag-open ka ng account sa bank pero nakatali pera for a year, then yung credit limit mo is usually 80-90% ng deposit amount. Ayoko naman matali yung pera ko kasi malaki-laki din ang idedeposit ko sa checking account. I want to know which banks have that perk na pag malaki ang deposit, na-oofferan ng credit card, preferably gold kind na since upper six digits naman ang ilalagay ko.

Hmm ang credit card kasi easy to get lalo if they see your income, not necessarily your bank deposits.

Yang BDO sends credit cards even without application and even without bank account with them.

Check if BPI would qualify you for preferred banking pero automatic gold card yung ATM at CC pag big amount. Sana same pa din ngayon.

^May credit card na ako with BPI, pre-approved, pero di ko masyadong ginagamit, usually for gas lang and pambili books for my Kindle. Mababa lang credit limit, P50k, and never ako nag-request ng increase. Siguro dapat gamitin ko madalas. Gusto ko try sa BDO naman pero ayoko na mag-apply kaya sana parang pre-approved din. Thanks sa tip.

Edited to add:  Pano sis yung process ng pag-qualify for preferred banking? Punta lang ano branch and ask or pwede over the phone?

^ generally, BPI preferred banking is something na mine-mention lang ng bank officers sa "VIP" clients nila. pero may link here for you to "sign up": https://secure1.bpiexpressonline.com/index/Preferred.html

so i guess they will "investigate" muna if qualified ka. from what i remember, i think one qualification is you have at least P300k sa regular savings account nila for a certain period of time. di ko alam yung iba since they don't usually offer that piece of info unless nga "VIP" ka ng branch nila. pero they will also offer you a credit card once you become a "preferred" client

Tried applying sa BDO where I have my savings account but was denied. Nakita kasi declining yung laman. Maintain ko daw ng 30k for 2 mos bago ako i-approve.

Sa BPI family, wala na po bang ganun? Basta po ba may initial na 5K issue na agad yung checkbook and ATM? TIA!

With BPI Family, you also need to have a savings account with them or BPI. Based lang sa sabi ng humarap sakin.
I was not approved here kasi meron ako g cancelled card na di ko pa na settle.

^BDO din una kong triny dahil 5k lang maintaining at andun talaga yung bulk ng money ko. I wanted to open in another BDO branch pero naturn off ako dahil need pa daw endorsement from my original branch. meh, effort pa.

so lumipat ako sa BPI. I had a BPI Direct account na almost always maintaining balance lang ang laman (P500) pero naapprove agad ako for a checking account.

^^Either BPI or BPI Family ang savings account mo, pwede ka na magopen ng checking account sa BPI Family. As long na wala kang negative findings.

I now feel there's no fixed criteria to be able to qualify for a checking account. It's really at the discretion of the officer who manages new accounts.

Dun naman sa friend ko, he tried to open with BPI family in q ave (he doesn't have an account with BPI), ang requirement naman sa kanya is ipakita raw yung contract of lease since he will be using it for rent, which is hindi nya maipakita kasi hindi ba sabay yung contract signing and surrender of post-dated checks.
