doc lelet good day po!! tanong ko lang po may 19 mons old son halos buwan buwan na [textspeak!] po may ubo at sipon mula pa nun sangol sya,, pero awa diyos mataba po sya at okay na okay po ang weight nman malakas naman po sa intake ng milk,, ang main concern ko ppo talaga lage po sya may ubo sipon,, sabi ng pedia nya weather lang po, hay stress po ako, sobra po sya pawisin naaalagan namn po ang pawis nya may sapin at palit po ng sando lage,, hindi ko po mahanap ang rason bakit po sya ganun lage,,gusto ko na po talaga mag visit sa clinic mo kaya [textspeak!] time lang po inaayos ko pa kasi bulacan pa po ako ei, sa nagyun po may sipon sya at paubo ubo konti pa [textspeak!] pero lam ko na na mapupunta un sa lala ubo nman,,mahina kaya po baga nya?thanks po dok lelet hintayin ko po reply mo

sorry po natapos na po kasi ang mga due nya sa vaccines kaya hindi na kame pumupunta sa pedia niya. well i think i need to go to her pedia inspite na wala ng naka due na vaccine for her . Thanks po!

Normally, children would have around 8 episodes of upper respiratory infections (simple cough and colds)/year kasi their immune system is still developing. How many episodes of cough and colds/year na ang anak mo?
If more than that, need to evaluate the reason for the frequent cough and colds such as if it is infectious or non - infectious. If non - infectious, need to check if allergic or due to reflux, etc.
Siya lang ba ang bata sa inyo? When he develops cough and colds, siya lang ba ang nagkakaroon ng cough and colds or nahahawa siya from another family member? What medications have been given and how fast does he respond to the medications?
Before mag-recommend ng tests, kailangan muna ang extensive history and physical examination para maspecify ang problems ng baby mo...

Doc pano malalaman pag ang cause ng recurrent cough and colds or upper resperatory problem ay reflux... what exactly the symptoms of reflux.... kasi ang son ko madalas siya nagsusuka or sinusuka niya ang food at parang matagal siya natutunawan... lalo na pag may plema siya once na uubuhin madalas magsusuka na siya. ito talaga ang problema ko sa son ko since siguro mga 1.6 year old siya until now na 2.6 na siya... doc may oral medicine po ba sa reflux.... thanks always...

Common ang GER or gastroesophageal reflux sa children less than 2 years of age since they feed lying down and their sphincters are lax pa, but after 2, usually nalelessen na ang reflux...
There is frequent spitting up of feeds or regurgitation associated with feeding, cannot tolerate large feedings kaya we have them have small frequent meals, failure to gain weight, etc. Cough results when there is aspiration of reflux contents in the lungs.
During a bout of respiratory tract infection or when a child below 7 has cough with phlegm, to relieve themselves of phlegm, they either vomit the phlegm or they swallow it. Hindi kasi sila marunong maglabas ng phlegm.
Yes, there are oral meds for reflux for kids pero before meds are given, meron ibang measures na pwedeng gawin like having the child avoid large feedings and instead, have them take small frequent meals. If you want to have your child checked for reflux, it would be best to consult a gastroenterologist.

thank you doc lelet at naliwanagan po ako sa explanation po ninyo. I guess, my son has it based sa paliwanag po ninyo at maaari one reaspon din kung bakit nagkakaroon ng bad breath anak ko.. thank you again doc one of these days papatingin ko sa gastroenterologist 2.6 year old son ko...

by the way doc, meron po bang pedia gastro or pwede na pumunta basta specialist sa gastro?

@ dok lelet  thank you po sa reply.. minsan po sya lang ang nag kakrun ng cough and colds sa bahay..minsan po naman pag lalabas kami ng house the few days po mag kakrun po sya.. pero [textspeak!] huli nya cough and cold baka nahawa lang nga s apinan nya kasi may sipon ang pinsan nya nun time na yun,, at hindi ko po sya bingyan ng meds kasi mukha kaya nman po nya ang cough kasi po madalang lang mag ubo at maluwag pa sabi ko sa yaya na [textspeak!] na bigyan kage ng water.. sa nakraang coug and colds nman po mabilis nman po mag respond sa gamot 1 week lang po or less a week magaling na sya,, pasensya na po kung mahba ang reply ko

Hi Doc kakadala ko lang kay baby sa pedia niya last thursday. 1 vaccine nalang pala kulang niya the rest pag 4 y/o na siya. We informed her pedia that hindi namin tinuloy ang gamot niya for PC kasi mas parang naging matamlay siya. her pedia just told us na walang sisihan if ever. I told him na we'll not sisi him if ever. He checked weight ni baby ok naman daw for her age not under weight and also above ave ang height nya.

He asked us kung inuubo at sinisipon ba lagi si baby and we told him hindi naman so pag recurrent daw ang ubo sipon we have no choice but to treat na talaga.

It seems that your son's immune system is working well enough to respond to infection. Baka tama si pedia and nagkakataon lang or brought about by weather changes ang cause ng cough and colds ng anak mo...

Hi sisses. I have a question. My 5 year old son's xray results  showed na Consider Primary Koch's infection. Sabi ng pedia , may gagawin daw sya na test pagkadischarge naman since nakaconfine sya for 4 days na due to high fever, severe cough and konting chestpain. .  As per my mom naman, sabi nya parang she heard daw before na pag BCG vaccinated, sigurado mag popositive  daw pag tubercullin test? Is that true? Ano ano po ang mga test na dapat gawin para ma confirm na primary complex ang sakit nya?

Not all BCG vaccinated patients will have a positive PPD or tuberculin skin test result.
For BCG vaccinated patients, PPD reading > 10 mm is considered positive.
What meds were given to your child when he was hospitalized for the fever and severe cough?
If he was given steroids kasi, hindi pa pwedeng magPPD since it might cause a false negative result.
Try to back read for the criteria to diagnose TB or PC. A patient needs to fulfill 3 out of 5 criteria to be diagnosed as having PC or TB.

Can you share what else is written on the chest x-ray report aside from the assessment of PTB not ruled out?
PTB not ruled out simply means that the findings noted on the chest x-ray cannot say that it is not due to Pulmonary tuberculosis.
Thus, whatever the findings were, it has to be correlated clinically and/or needs more investigation or follow up labs/x-rays. What to do will be the call of your doctor na.

sis leletmd, pag sinabi po bang minimal ptb contagious pa din? [textspeak!] 2 kids ko may PC (7 & 2 y.o) nag pa xray kami lahat dito sa bahay. father ko ang nag positive. sabi nung doctor nya eh minimal ptb daw, at hindi sya ang nakahawa sa mga bata.

Were you present when the doctor said that hindi nakakahawa ang dad mo?
Even if it says minimal PTB, if constant na nakakasama ng kids ang dad mo and unless, makahanap pa kayo ng ibang source, then it is possible na siya ang source ng PC ng kids mo. Your father still need to get treatment for his minimal PTB.

^ Baka kasi they just misunderstood the doctor's explanation...
Anyway, a patient with PTB is no longer considered contagious once the patient is able to take at least 2 weeks of medications.
To get cured, the patient must take treatment for at least 6 to 9 months. It is essential for a patient undergoing treatment for TB (whether pedia or adult) to have regular follow up during treatment so that the doctor will be able to assess response to treatment.

hi po. im a newbie here. im happy to be part on this GIRLTALK forum.

hi doc. pasensiya na sa abala ha. may isshare lang ako sayo. di ba nagtatake ng for prevention sa ptb ang baby ko yung isoniazid. Doc alam niyo po hindi ko po pinatapos sa pag-aakala baka maapektuhan liver niya. actually po dapat hanggang jan21 yung tapos, pero december eh hininto ko na. Hindi ko alam kung nagkataon lang pero jan.1 pina check apan ko siya kase may lbm. nung time naman na yun naka vacation yung bago niyang pedia na malapit sa place namin kaya doon ko siya dinala ulit sa dati niyang pedia. takot nga ako kase tagal ko siya hindi pina check apan dun. [textspeak!] niya "oh musta na tagal nio hindi bumalik ah" then [textspeak!] niya oh natapos ba yung 6months, [textspeak!] ko hindi po. [textspeak!] niya kelan yung last na painom mo sa kania? [textspeak!] ko naman: ah nung isang araw lang po (dec.30). natakot kase ako sabihin na 15days ago na yung last, hindi ko sinabi ang totoo kase baka magalit sa akin. So yun [textspeak!] niya, payat pa daw need i continue painumin. So up to now hindi ko pa din pinapainom kase baka kaya [textspeak!] niya ok lang na icontinue kase [textspeak!] ko malapit lang ang gap na hindi pinainom pero ang totoo matagal ng stop.

Sis anong gagawin ko? sa totoo lang ayaw ko naman siya ulit ipa check up dun kase wala pa budget eh. baka i-xray ulit then ppd na naman. eh wala talaga kame pera ngayon.

Ang ipinagtataka ko sa gabi lang siya may ubo, yung medyo paumaga na pero pag daytime naman hindi. Hindi ko lang alam baka dahil sa malamig sa madaling araw o ano.

Bumili na ko ng isoniazid kgbi pero takot ako i self medicate siya. insip ko kase baka bumalik pc niya. di pa rin siya nataba e . pediasure na nga milk niya kahit mahal pero wala pa din effect.

Doc advice mo naman po ako kung ano gagawin ko. Salamat...
