TAKING UP MASTER'S DEGREE

For me personally ah hindi practical pag school lang and no work. Sa UST kasi, 12 units max lang pag regular semester ang full, so that's 12 hours a week. Usually class schedule there is 6-9pm pag weekdays and 8-5pm pag saturday. So pwedeng 2 classes ka on a weekday and another 2 on saturday.

But for graduating students, yung mga nagsusulat na ng thesis, they allow hanggang 18 units. Nung nagsusulat na ko ng thesis part time na lang ang work ko nun kasi mas demanding sa time ang thesis and you're all on your own so kelangan mamanage mo yung time mo talaga.

Hmm. Kung sa bagay. My parents are suggesting me kasi to focus muna on grad school pero ang pagkakaalam ko rin kasi it's way more practical to have a work at the same time while pursuing it. Anyway, thanks for your opinion, simangl.

In your honest opinion, mas okay ba na mag-full time student muna sa grad school? Why or why not?

IMO, better to work while in grad school. I think kasi it is good to keep your professional network and have another network of people in grad school. If related yung profession mo sa masters mo, madaming matutunan ang classmates mo. I like learning from my classmates when they share work-related stuff.  Also, just in case that for some reason, you won't be able to finish your masters, you still have work. I think okay din sa resume na tuloy tuloy ang work. Always nice to say to your future employer that you can manage work-life balance. And personally, tatamarin ako kung mag-aaral lang ako. hehe.

Ang pagkuha ba ng master's degree same lang ng hirap sa law? I mean gabundok din ba ang babasahin at i-memorize? Nagtuturo ba ang prof o socratic method? Sa law kasi socratic method ang gamit. Hindi nagtuturo ang prof. Tanong lang siya ng tanong at student ang sasagot.

In my case, gabundok ang readings na binabasa and I've accepted that I won't be able to read them all. So my strategy is to just focus on 3-4 readings in a class, minsan 1-2 if wala talaga akong time or sobrang haba ng binabasa. Hindi ko na nababawing basahin yung ibang readings kahit kapag finals pero nakikinig ako ng mabuti kapag may classmate na nagrereport or nagdidiscuss about the topic. 

Sa prof - he/she manages the discussion of the students. Tapos, they share insights from their fields and experiences (which I really really like). Pwedeng may lecture minsan but 30% of the time lang yun then 70% ng classtime recitation na.

I take 6 units lang a sem. But aside from that class time, I allot an additional 8-10 hours a week (masipag mode) for research and readings and reading the material. Wala pa jan yung aral if may midterms or gagawa ng paper kapag finals na. Then again, ang undergrad ko kasi hindi yun related sa masters ko.

I am taking up Masters in International Studies, my undergrad in Accountancy.

it really breaks my heart na may weekday classes din ang AGSB na required i-take. I thought kaya lahat ng subjects during weekends lang. what to doooooo? flexible naman sched ko but di pwede pumasok earlier than 9am and later ng 1pm. i work in Ortigas.

classes at AGSB start at 6pm.

Some jobs even encourage their employees to pursue higher learning, even if it means being a bit flexible sa work hours. In the end, juggling work and school will be hard, but it's still preparation for the bigger challenges later in your career.

^Questions asked are about my work experience/background and then about my plans to pursue MBA. It was a short interview (that was last year). I haven't enrolled yet and I am planning to call dlsu to have my application re-processed so I can enroll as a new student this 3rd term.
