we have a history of breast cancer in the family
my mommy was diagnosed at age 48 in 1997 stage 2B breast cancer - had left breast mastectomy. She was on remission for 5 years until she had breast cancer again which later metastasized until she died in 2006
my cousin (maternal cousin) was diagnosed stage 1 breast cancer at age 38 in 2013 - underwent bilateral mastectomy. she was then on tamoxifen. this year she had another cancer - breast again - same location

my cousin got herself tested for BRCA in the US - and confirmed to carry BRCA2 mutation. Because of her and my mom's cancer history - I was also tested recently and confirmed to carry the BRCA2 mutation (past two months)

it seems like not a lot of people are talking about BRCA in the Philippines. In 2008/2009 I read about BRCA genes and asked around if testing was being offered. At the time St Lukes, Makati Med etc didnt have it. I heard na meron na daw recently kaso costs about 170K to 180K ba?

I am keen to meet more BRCA+ people out there. Or those who have more questions about it. If you are familiar with Angelina Jolie's case, ganun din kami. She has BRCA1, We have BRCA2.

Yung confirmed na same ang mutation namin ng cousin ko -- just says na we have inherited a mutated BRCA2 gene. Lahat tayo meron BRCA1 and BRCA2. These genes are supposed to help correct any mutations that will arise -- sa breasts and ovaries primarily but if they are already mutated from the start then they can not do their jobs - hence we have higher risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, and usually at younger ages.

To reduce our risks, we have to take preventive measures -- like prophylactic (preventive) mastectomy and oophorectomy (removal of ovaries).

Hi po! I had breast ultrasound recently and the result is tubulo-cystic foci with widest ap diameter of 0.38 cm and with aggregate measurement of about 3.88x 1.91 cm in the right breast . An oval hypoechoic focus in the left. Need ko po ba mag pabiopsy?

Sigma- better to consult your surgeon for physical examination and to personally check the pictures on your ultrasound before deciding if biopsy is indeed indicated.

mom's stage 4 na... nagpneumonia siya last month. Nung sat hospital ulit hirap siya huminga. Now we're home naka-oxygen siya. Wala gana kumain. Didn't want biopsy dahil di niya raw kaya masugatan. Wala rin kami pangsurgery at chemo. Leaving it in God's hands. Meds nalang for the pain. Super sakit pala sa bones...

pag ganito nasa lahi, what to do? Regular breast exam naman ako.

hello po DocShe_713, itatanong ko po sana kung pwede po bang magbuntis ang may fibroadenoma? may fibroadenoma pokasi ako. 3 years ago na po ata yung last na ultrasound ko at yun po ang findings, fibroadenoma po daw. before po wala naman talaga po ako nararamdaman na pagkirot. pero ngayon po parang may pain sya ng konti.ngayon ko lang po kasi naramdaman habang nalliligo po ako. sa right breast ko po..maraming salamat po sa inyo..

thank you very much DocShe_173 for your response. meron din po akong isang concern po. nagtataka lang po ako sa right breast ko po, it feels a little warm. yung right breast ko po kasi may fibroadenoma. pero last week  po kasi nakaramdam po ako ng sharp pain, sa isang araw thrice ko po nafeel yung sharp pain sa right breast ko po. pero yung lang po yung araw na nafeel ko ang pain ngayon naman week po napansin ko na pag hinawakan po sya parang knotting konti po na warm nasabi ko po warm ng konti kasi yung left breast ko po pag hinawakan malamig naman po.. naloloka na po kakaisip at kakasearch bakit po ganito. ano po kaya possible cause? Thank you very much po...

ask ko lang kung may suggestion kayo na dapat ko kainin at iwasan gawin/kainin.

Sumasakit kasi yung breast ko. nakita sa ultrasound 18 cyst sa right breast (1.4cmx0.4- pinaka malaki) at 11 cyst(1.2cmx0.7cm) sa left breast.

im 28y/o and single..super worried ako kasi ang daming cyst na nakita.

may chance  ba na mawawala yun?

Hi girls, not pleasant thread, but possible tp cope with. In case of cancer, particularly if a young lady, consider preserving fertitliy. My neighbour visited a good fertility clinic  in Gdansk (cause of affordable price) and froze her eggs before chemo. She says she is calm, even if smh happens, she can unfreeze eggs and get pregnant.

has anyone tried the MEIK breast screening method? it is supposedly safer and better daw than the traditional mammogram. clinica manila in sm mega offers this service. any feedback?

Twelve5- hi ! Regarding the MEIK, that test is not the diagnostic test of choice for breast screening. There are no adequate studies showing that this diagnostic modality is reliable .

hi doc she. im 22 years old. may nakakapa po akong bukol sa right breast ko malapit sa nipple. nagalaw po sya at maliit lang. is it a sign of breast cancer? wala po akong nararamdaman na kahit na anong masakit. pero nasakit po sya pag magkakaroon na ko. and the lump doesn't go away. pero walang sakit. natatakot ako.
