Amoxicillin for pregnant woman with UTI: is it really safe?
« on: November 10, 2010, 09:32:25 pm »
Hi sisses! Please help shed some light on this. This morning kasi I went to the OB kasi almost 2 weeks na sumasakit yung lowerback ko and last night hindi na talaga ako nakatulog. After urinalysis, sabi ng OB i have UTI and need to take amoxicillin 3x a day for a week. Medyo nag worry naman ako kasi di ba anti biotic yun and i'm only on my 10th week. Pero she (OB) assured me na it's safe daw sa buntis. Now i'm researching sa net and base naman sa nabasa ko no known side effects for pregnant woman. meron bang nakaexperience na magka UTI while pregnant? anong gamot ti-nake nyo?  :-\

hi! I had it in my 1st trimester and though she wanted to give me prescription for antibiotics, she advised me first to take at least 10 glasses of fluids - water, buko juice and cranberry juice every day. (Buko and cranberry have antibacterial effect good for UTI) after a month it was gone. it seems that my UTI was recurring ( I've had the same concerns before I was pregnant) and so when i had my chkup  last wk, I  have UTI again.  Am now 25 weeks preggy and from what I've read, I really have to cure the UTI before I give birth.  So my OB advised me to take more than 10 glasses of fluids again for a wk then take another urinalysis.  If it improves, she may not recommend the  antibiotics when I come back this weekend.  Will tell you what she will advice me.

thanks sa feedback mga sisses. according nga sa OB prone talaga sa UTI ang mga buntis. I'm increasing fluid intake nga since last urinalysis. sana lang maging ok na para i won't have to take antibiotics. next week uli ang next check up ko. so far naman walang side effects yun amoxicillin.  :)

hello batch 2x na ko nagantibiotic during my pregnancy now. first was on my first tri meron akong pabalik balik na lagnat at hindi matanggal tangaal na ubo't sipon nun. i think mga 3months palang ako nun pregnant. second was nung 2nd trimester kasi sa UTI :( super dami pus cells ko, so co-amoxiclav na pinabili sakin... pinakamalakas na anti biotic na safe for pregnant women na daw un... i think mga 5 months ako nun. ngayon im on my 7 months almost 8 months may UTI nanaman ako!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

She didn't give me any antibiotic... 10 glasses of water, cranberry juice and buko juice lang same as with sis LeAnEn. No to junkfoods, oily, salty and spicy foods din  :D

hi jesrora! 1 week lang ako nag-cranberry juice malaki na ibinaba ng pus cells ng UTI ko.  though i alternate it with buko juice siguro mga 2x a wk kasi medyo ma-sugar din sa content ang cranberry.  Siguro mga 2 glasses a day ako nun then lots of water. tapos on my next monthly chk up wala na sya. Look for sugar -free (found using splenda) or less sugar.  ;)

nakita ko nga yun pero  I haven't asked my OB about it.  As of my 2nd urinalysis, which thankfully improved, my OB ddnt advice me to take meds na muna. dahil dyan kaya di ko na rin na-open yung sa capsules. maybe i will ask on my next visit, just in case, * knock on the wood* i need to take meds na rin.

the last time i had UTI when i was oregnant my OB gave me antibiotics pero not oral. dun mo idadaan mismo sa baba sa vagina mo. it's a capsule na medyo mahaba. i forgot kung ano pangalan. ask your ob about it. baka naman kase pwedeng hindi oral ang intake. also drink lots of fluids preferably water and buko juice or cranberry juice and try to lower your salt and sugar intake
