^^so it wont matter kung 30 ka na kung maisip mo mag change of career? Hindi kaya mas mahihirapan maghanap ng work pag 30 na kasi may edad na raw??

I shifted careers twice when I was in my 20s. Graduate ako ng ECE, passed the board, but then my first two jobs was concentrated on IT - mga 4 years din yan into programming jobs. Then after that the 3rd job was on engineering - as in start ako from scratch as a junior engineer. Nagtagal ako ng 3 years.

Then a few years before 30, I suddenly found myself on a crossroad. I was unsure whether to continue my career as an engineer or as in IT expert. Eventually I found opportunities to earn online as a freelancer. Pay is good - better actually than the office... but still...

At this time kasi I don't know, parang I'm leaning to going back to the office (overseas I hope) either as an engineer or IT personnel kasi humihina na ang freelancing ngayon: dollar rates going low, and prices going up, while trying to compete with the other freelancer who are offering much low rates with the same set of skills and experience as mine. It is difficult at this time, kasi halos di na rin match ang freelance experience ko with that is in demand abroad.

Then I worry too, that when I get older, I cannot be much of an effective programmer anymore. I might even go back to school for another career change - maybe take up law if ever di ako successful overseas.

Iniisip ko rin kasi take up medicine when i reach 30, pag wala pa naman ako asawa or into business..

I have been a software developer for more than 5 years na rin, although all around ang tasks from scratch to deployment, kaso parang Sawa nako or pagod na. Gusto ko mag shift into a different IT career maybe as business analyst, systems analyst, project manager, database administrator, ETL developer, but I have no to little experience. Gusto ko rin Sana mag SAP kaso mahal training.

I have also have a Real Estate broker license but it's not my major income, seasonal Kasi ang commission and mababa Lang sweldo if in-house ka naman. Dito naman walang age limit, so it's my alternative if di na makahanap ng IT job.

^ sis, if i may suggest, maybe it would be good if you shift to another field pero within IT pa rin. i had also been a software developer for more than 5 years. i also experienced being a systems analyst for a time. nagsawa rin ako. i finally found my satisfaction when i shifted to another field within IT - testing. having previous experience as a developer helped me when i went to testing - especially if the language / environment wherein you will be doing your testing is the same as what you're using when you were still a dev. try mo lang muna sis mag shift ng field. good luck!

I'm turning 30 din next year and I am starting a new career next month, I resigned this \dec sa current job ko at sa Jan.14 sa ibang office na ako papasok at iba na din un work na gagawin ko...Plus sawa na ako sa Makati area kaya Ortigas na tong bago ko...

Like some of our sisses, ako din breadwinner at isa sa major factors bakit ako nag-quit sa job ko na 5 years ko din pinagtyagaan is for better pay.

I don't believe na mahihirapan ka mag apply pag 30 ka na, mas madami nga company ang naghahanap ng experienced na employee di ba.un mga baguhan kasi most likely magreresign din ng wala pang one year kaya mas gusto ng HR un "seasoned"

^ and the others. I am my family's breadwinner too. I know I want a career change pero alam kong mahirap gawin dahil sa sitwasyon ko. What I did, pinagtapos ko muna mga kapatid ko sa pag aaral nila. I put a little business for my parents (tatay ko nalang ngayon) that will earn enough to support their everyday living expenses. Tapos nag ipon ako ng pang everyday expenses ko for one year para makapag aral ako full time. (This case, I have a full time job and full time din akong estudyante--sinwerte.)

Like I said, if you can't find a coach/mentor/or a highly established friend or someone you know--try to do the planning yourself. Sometimes hindi realistic kung tayo lang but you can figure out how youre going to do. Start from there.

This is true.

Actually, eto ang problem ko ngayon. I recently resigned and still haven't found a new job. Seems like nothing is working out whenever I apply. The thing is, whenever I apply for a post na sakto lang sakin, they are not able to give me my expected salary. I'm not asking for too much. I'm actually asking for the same basic pay I had with my previous job. Tatapatan lang naman. And they are not able to do it. Then I thought, maybe I should apply for a higher position to get my desired salary. But the problem is, most higher positions would require a degree and I don't have it. Hanggang 4th year college ako but did not graduate. I don't want to go back to being a call center agent. That would be like starting all over again. And yes, I just turned 30...

^ Why don't you go back to college and get a degree? I know, easier said than done. But unless you want to start a business, or unless you have technical and specialized skills, getting a degree seems to be your hope now.

^ Sis, that has been my plan for a long time now. But I need to find a job which can sustain my studies kasi nagsusupport din ako samin. Kaya nga I'm really looking for something na hindi na bababa yun pay ko kasi that's the only way na makakapag aral din ako while working.

i'm turning 33 na this january, pero wala pa rin ako work.. ang sama ng feeling na sa edad kong 'to, dependent pa din ako sa family ko... sobrang nakakafrustrate, nakakadepress... =(

The company I was working for closed last September. This year I'm turning 33 also, my background is HR/ADMIN and I'm now on the process of finding jobs.

I'm torn between online job (Virtual Assistant - which I haven't tried before  ) government job (which i really really want mainly for stability despite lack of professional advancement) or i might go back to working for a private company since Jobstreet.com is full of it. LOL.

Hassle though because I keep thinking, I should be stable at this age and time but I'm not. Woe.

However, we should all be optimistic with the things and opportunities to come =)

im really thinking of going abroad kahit na mag hotel receptionist or kahit ano work...kasi wala naman asenso dito sa pinas pag employee ka lang also may age discrimination pa dito....

unlike sa ibang bansa kahit 50 ka na basta able ka pa di ka nila tanggihan...now im really into researching paano makapunta ng ibang bansa and pag andoon na kami ng husband and baby ko kahit ano work go lang ng go!

^ & ^^ If you want a career change and you do not know where you want to go, try mapping out your career aspirations. Map out how you are going to reach it. Kasi kung ikaw mismo hindi mo alam kung ano ang goal mo, mas mahihirapan kang magprogress for the career change.

I am an engineering graduate but I found out I am more into financial and healthcare. I can do financials/businesses on the side but I am passionate about healthcare. To get into healthcare and to be able to be on top of the that certain field I am eyeing, I found me career coach. She's the one who helped me mapped out what I need to do. Also, I got me a mentor who helped me and still helping me network, meet influential people.

I am still at school and I am headhunted na.

sis how did you get your mentor/career coach or where? Or how Do you choose and meet these people. (If in case you don't know anyone)

I'm 30 and I just changed career 360 degrees! I was an international flight attendant for 7 years and 2 years ago, I kept thinking what to do to shift career. I was interested to be a preschool teacher so I tried studying online but didn't work out for me.nahirapan ako pagsabayin work and study so I stopped. But finally, after months of contemplating, I've submitted my CV in all schools and exactly on my 30th birthday, I got an interview and was offered to be either assistant teacher or school coordinator. Now I'm planning to continue my study to get a license to teach. Since I'm working in school, I guess it will be easier for me now to continue studying. God is good! I know its really hard to start a new career but the sooner you start working on it the better otherwise if you keep hesitating, baka too late na.

I am also turning 30 this year. For now I am looking for another job and trying to enter in the BPO industry. Mas malaki kasi ang kita dun compared to other regular office jobs. Kaya nilang higitan ang currebt salary ko, I have experience in the sales field, for now sa sales field pa rin ang target ko sa BPO industry. Hope to have chance to get amother job, sawa na ko sa current job ko ang besides, lumalaki na rin ang gastos ng family namin.

I am confused and hesitant to take risk about this as well. I'll be turning 30 next month. I am currently working for about 6+yrs in my current company yet benefits and salary is so-so. There's a bigger company who offers me around 3k lang naman ang itataas ng sahod ko. Though benefits are better, i'm still afraid to take risk. Alam nyo yun yung you have to start all over again.

I am turning 29 this year...I just made a big move on my career last year when I decided to follow my husband in Kuwait. I was actually on peak of my career, I was working in BPO that time holding a managerial post. parang 6-7 months pa lang ako after being promoted then my hubby and I decided nga. Now I am starting my career as an Admin Asst sa isang Oil and Gas Company. Ok naman ang sahod, almost the same ng net income ko as manager. Wala naman kasi Tax dito
I never regret na nagtrabaho ako sa BPO. 'twas fun learning!
