starting a new career at 30

it's never too late naman siguro as long as you don't mind the age discrimination the society is trying to impose. sometimes naman kasi nasa isip lang natin na takot tayo because of what other people might say. well, to each his own. and as long as alam mo na gusto mo ang gagawin mo, then go!

hi sisses. i'm 32. i had worked for a government hospital for 13 years and decided to quit last 2009. after my daughter turned 1 year old i decided to work again this time for a private company and in sales. i am also preparing to study again for my masteral degree next year.

just to share also my experience... nagtender ako ng resignation sa kilala MNC because of shifting schedule. naisip ko in a long run baka di ko kayanin at baka mahirap sa part ko. i'm married and no kids yet gaya sa age natin 30's baka mahirapan pa ko. so that's why i decided to accept the job offer with the other company. regular office hours lang kaya lang feeling ko start all over again after 4 years with the MNC. syempre big adjustments pero in time masasanay ako sa new environment. i'm not after of high pay salary, if  they provide then it is a bonus for me. pero pag sinabi mo na may time ka para sa family and for yourself, no expensive material or money can replace that.

so go mga sis, mga plans nyo. so you at least try and not asking yourself if only.

nakakainspire naman pag nakakabasa ako nito. atleast i know na hindi ako nag iisa.. i don't know kung may regrets ba ako kase nagresign ako sa previous job ko in a bank kase may mas magandang offer sa akin but still hindi rin ako nagtagal kase sobrang na stress ako sa work kaya i resigned. now two months na kong jobless dahil halos karamihan sa mga inapplyan ko hindi ako natanggap maybe because over aged na ko kahit 5 years na working experience ko. nakakadepress lang kase bakit karamihan sa mga companies dito saten may age limit.i'm already 31 by the way and till now wala pa kong investment. gusto ko na ulit magwork pero mukang mahihirapan akong maghanap ng job sa bank.. or sa kahit anong private company because of the age requirement

im 31 and had been trying to shift careers over the past two years.  i just find it difficult coz involved [textspeak!] finances.  i am trying to start my own business but it's a bit challenging since i am working and taking up my mba at the same time.  i have always wanted to be a writer but im now working in operations.  im very much interested in marketing but when i talked to my boss about it he said he is going to cut my salary in half if he will move me to his other business so wag na lang.  goodluck sa atin

hi sis, I worked 3 years as an English teacher, 2 years as a journalist, 1 year walang work, 1 year as a copy editor/ proof reader, 3 years as a writing consultant, and ngayon 4 months pa lang ako sa new work ko as a training assistant. I moved from org to org and I still think I may change jobs, but Ill never leave my new org as this was the dream org Ive wanted to join since 2007. Actually most people in my org are all over 30 years old. Ako ang isa sa mga babies dyan, hehe.. :p Kasi minsan some certain jobs require people with years of experience. Kaya para sa akin, its ok to find new jobs, but you should have a certain field that youll stick to. To answer your question, medyo broad ang field ko, basta if the job entails good English communication (speaking and writing) skills, I can apply to it as thats my field. I wont try to apply to jobs in the finance sector or IT sector as my sector talaga is more on communication. Kaya its never too late to look for new jobs, but its better to stick to a certain field of expertise.

I'm thinking of starting up my own business. (Which I should havedone years ago) Pero super enjoy ako sa work. Let's just say I'm paid to talk Which to me is as natural as breathing. lol. I'm thinking of leaving kasi it already took too much of my time na. tumanda na ako dito.

Pero I'm bargaining with my hubs, I'll try to pagsabay and check if it works.

Im also 30 . A mother of 3 kids.
I got so tired of the office works.
Hirap pa mag absent pag nagpapaalam ako even my reason is my kid(s) is/are sick.

So finally last july i decided to resign.

Now Im into Real Estate and Insurance.
Hawak ko sariling oras ko.
Have more time for my kids.
Not stressed!
Nakakapag suklay na ako ng hair ko , unlike before sa sborang busy wala talaga time mag paganda na.

So Im happy with my decision.

hay, mega nakakarelate din ako dito. i'm turning 30 next year and my career is going nowhere.

nadaanan ko na ang bpo, media & corporate pero to the nth level ang stress at hindi naman mataas ang sweldo.."prestige" lang.

i'm in a semi-ok paying job in teaching english online now. the pay is ok but i know that if i stay here, there is no room for growth or to "go up" the corporate ladder.

ok naman where i am now pero minsan, i still can't help but think if there's still something out there at this age.

i hate to admit this but there are times when i don't want to see my batchmates kasi i feel like i've fallen so far behind in terms of career na sila ang layo na ng narating pero dahil palipat-lipat ako ng job, parang nasa "entry" pa rin.

i want to find a more "competitive corporate career" but i'm in a rut and i don't want to let go of my "safe but going nowhere job" for something scary and unknown. i guess age taught me to be more segurista. "settling" ba ang tawag dito mga sis? tsk.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this, to be honest.

My Uncle who was an engineer in the Philippines, studied and became a nurse here in Australia. He's in his late 40's and a teenage daughter when he started studying.

My Mother in Law, she recently just finished studying a certificate to become a Pharmacy Assistant. His eldest is already married (to me)!

If it's what you want, and you're no longer happy doing what you're doing, then by all means! Life is too short to be doing something you're not happy with

hello mga sis, sobrang nakakarelate naman ako dito, i'll be turning 30 this month and i really wanted to shift a career. I am currently working as a factory worker/production operator sa isang semicon company, at ngayon nag announce sila ng early retirement program at medyo malaki makukuhang pera kumpara kapag nag resign ka lang. i really wanted to avail kaso syempre ng dadalawang isip ako if i will avail it. madali lang gastusin ang pera, pano kung hindi agad makahanp ng trabaho. i am single tas yung mom ko at sis ko may work naman. pero gusto ko na kasi mag shift ng ibang industry. hindi maganda mag work sa isang semicon company kasi yung products nya pang luxury, hindi basic needs...sa panahon ngayon bagsak ang ganitong industry, syempre people will focus more on the basic needs like food. so madalas lagi kaming walang pasok. eh ngayon may economic problem/recession na mga nangyayari na sa ibang bansa so talagang apektado ang electronics/semicon industry. hay sobrang naguguluhan ako. meron pa bang tatanggap sa akin at this age. pero kasi gusto ko mag work din sa abroad.

question po sa mga sis natin who were able to "successfully" shift to a new career. how did you know or what made you realize that the new career that you chose is "the one" for you? recently, i've realized na burnt out na talaga ako with my current work (IT). i want to shift to my "first love" which is graphics design and desktop publishing, kaya lang i have a kid to support. i know na maganda ang income sa field ko, kaya lang, alam kong itong monetary side na lang din ang reason why i stick to my job. in short, pera na lang talaga, but i'm no longer happy. hayyy...

Nakakarelate ako sa topic na to. For the past 6 years I have been working in a bank as frontliner. Past job still in a bank pero sa backroom. Ngayon I realize the gusto ko bumalik sa backrrom job ko kahit na paper works parang pakiramdam ko mas masaya at bagay ako dun unlike sa frontliner na lately need na may sales ka kahit di naman yun ang job description nung nahire ka. Im planning to apply next year for a backroom job less stress and no quotas. wish me luck

For me ang work kasi it's more for skills and knowledge growth. 90% monetary. kaya dapat besides dun sa work may iba pang pinagkakaabalahan.

Like ako nasa airline industry ang line of work ko. super layo sa tinapos ko. Never ko na realized na mapupunta ako dun sa industry na yun kasi napaka couch potato and di talaga ako mahilig sa travel but super na eenjoy ko sya kasi pagkatapos ng work ko may iba pa akong pinagkkaabalahan yung first love ko which is cooking and baking. suma sideline ako ng catering and baking plus I also into scrapbooking. I guess yun yung secret ko kaya pag pasok ko sa work kahit gaano ka pressure pag labas ko ng office namin na rrelax ako kasi may iba pa akong ginagawa.
