Hey girls!

Since I'm based abroad and will get married overseas din I'm still working out ano exact requirements for me and my fiance. But reading through this thread, I do want to know what's covered in Discovery Weekends so I can gauge if tama ba na both of us are going down this path with our engagement.

Not sure if you signed confidentiality agreements, but if you can, can you PM me the key themes/topics/questions from your time with DW? I'd just like to know if there's something I need to hash out with my fiance as early as now :)

Thanks girls and so happy that you were able to attend this :)

^ medyo madaming topics ang covered e.. top of mind na naalala ko now are:
- communication between couples, love language, etc
- finances
- family background (including extended families, existing traditions, customs, beliefs, etc)
- personal assessment (your own strengths, weaknesses, etc)
- career, faith & future family (kids?)

You guys talk about stuff like how to communicate with each other, sex, relating with others around you as a couple, finances, raising a family--really comprehensive. There's this multiple-choice questionnaire you guys will answer about topics ranging from how many kids to have, who'll handle the money, are you willing to have relatives live with you, etc. Highly recommended you go there, for us kasi it was the only venue where we got to talk about those stuff away from everyday life lang.

Hello girls! Just want to ask if no need to attend also seminar sa city hall (for marraige license) if you already did Discovery Weekend? Alam ko DW is also considered as pre-cana seminar na rin, but how about yung sa city hall seminar? TIA!  :)

Not sure if it differs from one jurisdiction to another. In our case, we no longer had to undergo seminar conducted by the city government. We only submitted our pre-cana certificate which was recognized as compliance for that requirement. Best to ask where you're filing your application :)

Sharing this email intro from DW as a brief description for other girls' info.
We have decided to book na for the Sept 4-6 schedule. Kahit ang mahal (7500), I guess worth it naman bec it's for the relationship. Si fiance talaga yung may gusto mag-ganito kami.

"The Discovery Weekend (DW), is an intensive marriage preparation program designed to help couples discern their readiness for marriage.

The weekend is composed of 9 sessions that cover what we feel are the most important aspects of married life.  They cover the following topics:
·        The use of feelings in understanding myself and my partner
·        Encountering one’s true self by identifying and removing one’s masks
·        How to dialogue with each other
·        The three stages of love: falling in love, disillusionment, and deciding to love
·        Subjects to dialogue about (i.e. children, money, sex, future in-laws, etc.)
·        Morality and sexuality
·        How God is present in our relationship
·        Marriage as a sacrament and vocation
·        Being an open and apostolic couple

The DW is a whole weekend. We need you to be there from Friday evening (5:30pm) until Sunday afternoon (5pm) straight.  So please arrange your schedule that you will not need to go out at anytime during the weekend. We want you to prioritize your partner for the entire weekend."

My friend had the retreat last weekend they were 28 couples, a couple chaplain and 9 couple sharers. According to her it was an amazing experience. 7500 pesos was nothing compared to the life lesson and outcome of DW. It was the best date and talks she had with her fiancé.

I'm excited to join this. Fiance and I have already discussed and he is very willing to go to DW. Siya pa ang pumilit sa kin na i-allot ito sa budget hehe. May inaayos lang kami now but will definitely join the retreat hopefully this year. Sana may makasabay kaming GTs :)

just want to rant lang- I am really excited for our DW on Nov. 6-8. kaso nung isang araw, sabi ni h2b kaya lang daw kami aattend ay dahil gusto ko. but if I were to ask him, parang waste of time daw. pahinga na daw sana nya yung Sunday. yung 7,500 daw pwede namin gamitin pang out of town, adventure, food trip etc. Naintindihan ko naman sya and I already planned to cancel our slot. pero sabi nya, ituloy pa rin daw namin for the sake of different kind of experience.

so sabi ko, I'll inquire kung ilan na ang attendees for November. pag 10 couples and up, it is a sign na go kami. if less than 10.. I'll cancel the slot. nung nagtext ako, 10 couples daw! yey!! sana mag enjoy naman sya para walang sisihan!!!

^sis stylus for us we chose CEFAM over DW since there's no way for us to reach the venue on time on a friday night plus we are trying to save our VLs na rin. Some of the topics are the same, sa execution style may naiba ng onti according to CEFAM since the some of the facilitators naman are the same. We initially did not want it kasi mahal nga but went through with it after endless pestering from my family. H2b did not appreciate it at first even me and we just did it to shut everybody up. We both wanted to rest on weekends. After though he was able to appreciate it. Not all of the topics naman super maapply namin but we were glad na we went through with this since we learned more about each other, our views etc. Kahit sabihin pa namin konti na lang pang lechon na yung binayad namin. I do hope he will be able to appreciate it after, like we did.
