Because it is expensive (financially, emotionally and spiritually) to not be healthy.
I have been overweight most of my life. Before the attack I was already mildly obese. My clothes got tighter and tighter and I was feeling lethargic most of the time. I decided to go on a diet and managed to lose 10 lbs in 8 days.
Right after that time I started working on a new physically demanding job which entailed standing for 8 or more hours and moving around all the time. I ate two times a day because I was too busy. I couldn't really just stop and take a break. Sometimes I didn't even have time to drink. I was also partially at fault for thinking that dieting during that time of high physical demand would make me lose weight faster. I managed to lose another 8 lbs in two weeks. However, my job was very strenuous and my diet was probably too low in calories to support my body's caloric needs.
To fan the flames, work stressed me out. Probably more than it stressed out other people. My boss was a merciless slave driver who tested my patience. I was never one to snap back at superiors so I kept my frustrations to myself. In addition, and we were having problems at home. I was physically, emotionally and spiritually drained.
That was probably why I had a myocardial infarction last Sunday. Having a heart attack at 25 was an eye-opening experience. Up to now, I still can't believe that it happened. For one, it was rare for people my age to have a heart attack. And I was surprised that I got it AFTER I have lost weight. i foolishly thought that I was healthier because I have already lost weight. Turns out, losing lots of weight at a short period of time was more detrimental than beneficial. On hindsight though, I am glad that I already lost weight. I probably would have died because of the heart attack if I was still my obese self.
The experience taught me several things. One is that losing weight should be approached rationally. Always make sure that there is a balance between dieting and your daily activities. Never drive your body to the brink. Not for vanity, self-assurance nor insecurities. NEVER RUSH IT.
I have also learned to change my goals. I do not want to "lose weight" just for the sake of it but rather, to "be healthy". If you're gonna starve yourself or go beyond the physical limitations of your body then you're doing yourself a disservice. Losing weight should be used as a means to live life and not be a ticket to the afterlife.
Everything in moderation pa rin. And never forget that losing weight should be done for the right reasons and through the proper way. You can't just diet without exercising kasi magweweaken ang heart at ang vital organs kasi pwedeng hindi naman taba ang mawala sayo but muscle weight. So para walang komplikasyon, ndi pwedeng idaan sa katamaran. No pain, no gain.

Dba?
Sharing lang mga sis. i just want to put my thoughts in writing para ma-remind ako na wag maging bangenge pag nalilihis na naman ako ng landas. Good luck sa pagpapapayat nating lahat.
