I think the open house for incoming grade 1 students for SY 2012-2013 are on September 3, October (not sure of the date) and January.

It's a grade school that practices the Montessori method.

My daughter will be in her last year of pre-school, and I think we're quite decided about Miriam  College already. The only thing that's off-putting is the terrible traffic situation in Katipunan.

It also depends where you live.  Which side of Katipunan will you be coming from?  If you need to take one of those U-turns to go to Miriam's side, double sa stress.

Naiisip ko na nga itransfer kasi nahihirapan rin ako plantsahin ang uniform kidding aside, loyalty na lang talaga sa school kaya nagtatyaga ako.

Capitol hills side, sis. I think it isn't as bad as having to pass by Ateneo, coz I'll reach Miriam first. But still stressful

^ You have to go through the traffic at the intersection going to C.P. Garcia where there is a U-turn and also the traffic around Shoppersville (because of MI naman) going to the U-turn to Miriam (right after Rustan's).  So bale 2 U-turns yung dadaanan mo, sis.  Try mo muna going there one weekday morning.  Traffic starts around 6:40 am.  Traffic din at 11 am, 3 pm and 5 pm.

Just to give you an example, from my house to my sons' preschool along E. Abada, the drive on a regular day/time (meaning, not the early morning rush) takes 12 minutes.  On a weekday morning, the drive takes 20-25 minutes because we take the C.P. Garcia U-turn and pass through the traffic in Shoppersville.

And maraming Miriam students who take the overpass na nga sa may Mercury rather than risk getting late for school.

Oh my.. I hope by the time my daughter starts schooling at Miriam next SY, the MMDA has done something to resolve the traffic situation in that area.

My daughter's gonna be switching to big school next year for grade 1. We're living at Mandaluyong so ang options ko are:

1. St. Scholastica (V. Cruz, Mla.)
2. Assumption Makati
3. O.B. Montessori Greenhills
4. Poveda

^sis switsuplada, why not try CSA?  I also live in the Manda area.  I prefer CSA over OB.  The traffic is not bad at all especially with the new bridge up.Although ako kasi, 30-1 hour after dismissal time ko sinusundo ang mga kids ko para iwas na rin ako sa CSA traffic.  It takes me 1 hour back and forth from the house.

Hello sis domestic diva! Gusto ko din sana sa CSA before kasi malapit sa office ko. However, my friend's daughter is studying at CSA. According to her, nai-stress siya sa dami ng assignments ng anak nya. Everyday kasi me assignment 'yung daughter nya in almost all of her subjects aside from the projects pa. Tapos lagi din daw me mga events sa school kaya naisip ko baka nga mapagod sa sobrang dami ng activities 'yung bata. OK lang kahit everyday me assignment kaso kung sasabayan pa ng mga practice and projects kawawa naman. Thanks for suggesting anyways.

I called Poveda College this morning and very strict pala sila sa age requirement. Out na siya sa mga options ko. Bakit naman kasi kelangan me age requirement pa e depende naman 'yun sa mental development ng bata-- pano kung kaya nya na mag-grade 1 tapos 6 y.o. lang siya. Sayang 'yung isang year na magpe-prep (Kinder 3 at Poveda) ulit siya.

My daughter will be in Grade 1 next schoolyear too, and I am also eyeing Miriam for her. As to the traffic situation, since I've endured it every morning for the past 4 years na (I have a 3rd-grader in Ateneo), pahahabain na lang ng konti ang kalbaryo, ganun na din yon.

Yes they're really strict with the age. My daughter's school mate before had to repeat kinder 1 cause she was born in December. Ang cutoff nila is October

Yes sis, kaya di na siya included sa list ko. Sayang nga kasi isa siya sa malalapit sa Mandaluyong e.

I just hope Assumption is not as strict as Poveda when it comes to age compliance. By the time the school starts (June 2012), she's 6 y.o. 4 mos. na and 6 y.o. 6 mos. naman ang age required for AC's grade 1.

Food for thought for parents who do not agree with the strict age requirements of schools:


With the age requirement, the directress in my sons' preschool explained it is because of the emotional preparedness and maturity of the kid, not just how bright he/she may be for her age.  For preschoolers, a few months do make a difference in terms of emotional maturity.  That's why super strict pa lalo sa boys' schools like Ateneo and La Salle, kasi boys mature slower than girls.  And the directress said that the age requirement has been adopted by the schools because these educators know best and have been engaged in educating children for decades.  Usually daw, tama ang age requirement, it is not just a random requirement designed to annoy parents.

And I have read somewhere that there was a study conducted in a boys' school.  The older kids in class tend to be the leaders and tend to perform better academically and socially than the younger kids.  It's because of the age/maturity factor.

In addition, those kids na alanganin ang birthday who stayed in my sons' preschool for an additional year kasi nga hindi pa sila pasok sa cut-off age for their chosen traditional school for the previous year, did very well.  It helped din daw na mas mature sila to handle the pressure (oh yes, there is pressure in kinder and prep) of school.  Feedback ito ng co-parents ko.  And they did not regret waiting it out.

Bottom line, decision iyan ng parents.  Suwerte ko kasi my kids were born in June and pasok na pasok sa cut-off ng Ateneo (which is December 15, if I am not mistaken).  But if hindi sila pasok, I would also rather wait it out, especially since I know, based on my observation, that boys really tend to mature slower than girls.

^super agree..just look at the plight of those so-called Promil Kids Prodigies. I remember reading an interview of Shaira Luna on how much she regretted that she didnt get to enjoy her childhood that much. How she had a hard time relating with her much older classmates.

hi mga sis! any feedback on Everest Academy at the Fort? how about Beacon School?...I got the chance to visit the Everest campus and I liked it a lot,very clean school ground located in a secure area.It's a traditional Catholic coed school with a student population of more or less 150 students only. My only reservation is that,I don't know of anyone who has sent their kids to this school,and so wala pa siyang "track record" so to speak,thus i have no basis for comparison...TIA
