ang hirap nito pero I really want to try this kasi lumipat na kami sa sarili naming house. we bought furniture and appliance, yung basic lang talaga and di na ko gano bumibili ng kung ano ano if it isn't needed in the house. dagdag sa clutter lang and maliit lang din kasi bahay namin. ang problem ko lang, hirap ako magpigil in buying clothes and make ups, madalas kasi binibigay ko sa younger sister ko mga damit na di ko na magamit and even make up. ni-limit ko na rin bags ko, binenta ko iba hindi ko ginagamit, sayang lang, magddeteriorate lang kapag nakadisplay. dati, lagi ako nagsstock ng mga soaps at kung ano anong toiletries pero ngayon madalang na, pampaskikip lang eh and every week naman kami pumupunta sa grocery. yung wardrobe ko gusto ko i-make over, I want to start with the basics. problem ko rin kasi MIL ko ang hilig magibigay ng old unused clothes, okay sana kaso super outdated na style, tipong mga 80s pa yata may mga shoulder pads pa, haha  ;D hirap din tanggihan

This is an interesting topic but I'd just like to know, if you work in the office 5x or more per week. How many clothes, shoes, bags should you have in order to still fit the minimalist lifestyle?

Also, I go to the gym. How many change of clothes do I really need without being to hassled sa paglalaba because I go 4x a week after work.

Just wanted to get an idea from you girls, baka kasi what I classify as normal is overboard na or masyado ko naman tinitipid/titipirin sarili ko and ma hassle din in the process. Thanks! :)

^ That's more or less how I live my life :P  I have a "uniform" that I rotate every 2 to 3 weeks. :)  I keep enough para in case hindi possible mag-laundry in 2 weeks, may damit pa din ako.

I think it's not really in how small your possessions are. I think minimalism is not an end in itself. If you still feel like the "stuff" is not running your life and your small everyday decisions, you're still good.

Example: If you care more about gym clothes than actually going to the gym, or if you get stressed about clothes because you have too many choices, there's a problem

ako ang hilig ko bumili ng mga cute stuff. like ballpens, postits, notebooks, mga impulse buy items ba. ayun. eto need ko siguro bawasan at sa mga damit din. madami na rin ako na garage sale. at pati mga sapatos din. need ko bawasan, lalo na 2500/week lang narereceive kong baon from my parents. hayyy. need to have a simple life talaga at less extravagant. while reading this, narealize ko na di ko pala need ng extrang phone, balak ko kasi bumili ng isa pang dual sim para di agad masira iphone5 ko. haha pero i think hindi na need.

Just recently, naayos ko how I will manage yung office attires ko, I own only few, siguro mga 15-20 office tops lang. I seldom buy kasi hindi ganun kaganda mga designs unless I want to spend like 1k per blouse. so What I do is, for this week, set 1, next week set 2, the other week, set 3, on the 4th week balik ng set 1. with regards sa bottom, ok lang yung jeans/slacks. sa bags naman, I try to interchange 2 bags lang kasi I tend to forget things from one bag, with shoes, ok na kahit 4 pairs lang and pinagpapalit palit ko. kelangan magtipid tipid  ;D

I have a rotational 3 weeks worth of outfits for work. Pinipigilan ko muna sarili ko to buy new clothes at the moment kasi sayang lang money. Gym clothes ko naman, too few pa. Tipong 3 visits worth pa lang, so I need to buy a few more para di ako mahirap kaka laundry.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I might have been thinking about this quite literally  ;D

I am practicing this eversince we shifted to a new house. My goodness, ang hirap magpack, kahit gabi gabi kami magpack parang di sya nababawasan. No choice but to throw and give away most stuff.

Subscribing to paperless billing also helped me, good for the environment pa. Each bill kasi minimum of two pages, double sided pa yun ha at kanya-kanyang envelope.

Thanks to this thread.

So happy with minimalist living. Very carefree. Very liberating. And I was able to save a lot because of simple living.

Have you heard about the ZERO-WASTE FAMILY? Talagang inspiring sila. They are the epitome of minimalist living. They show that minimalism is possible, even with kids. Here's a news article about them (very good read):

Oh! good thing there's a thread about minimalist living, will be back reading...

It's only lately that I realized minimalist pala ako with my personal belongings... even with priorities, pag madadagdagan ako ng activity, I make sure to drop another activity off my list. I started applying it in homemaking a month ago (may pagka hoarder kasi si hubby), sobrang aliwalas na ng bahay namin ngayon... all the flat surfaces (tables, countertops) are shiny clear with only 1-3 things on top of them. Ang saya, ang daling linisin when there are no unnecessary things in the house... pero di pa tapos ang decluttering...

Thank God I've found this. I'm starting to de-clutter our house. Started with giving old/unused clothes and toys to our relatives ni hubby. For expensive used items, i sold already.

Lol

I think husband and I are in this category already. Both of us came from simple families kaya siguro na-adapt na rin namin. I read with the provided links ng mga sisses here na having no TV is considered minimalism. Eversince we got married and moved out on our apartment, we only have basic appliances and TV isnt incuded. So it's like 6months without TV. Nakakapanood lang kami when we visit in-laws or my parents. My say on 6months wo TV? During breakfast and at night, we have more meaningful conversations, more time to discuss our plans and more time for ourselves :) Galing!

My husband is somehow minimalist, like for gadgets, clothes, shoes and other stuff. He seldom buy but when he buys I find it bit expensive. Like last year, he did not buy any personal items for himself, but before year ended, we went to this Lacoste shop and he spent like 30k+ for perfume, shoes and watch (including my perfume too ;D).

sis brendzy, ganyan din si h2b ko.

looking at photos of the appalling conditions of homes of hoarders makes me want to clean my house and yes try to be a minimalist.
personally, minimalism is too extreme.
just get rid of clutter periodically and you're good to go.

I just realized minimalist pala ako :) My mom always had trouble throwing things away. And my father and I find it really irritating if there are many useless things at home. So whenever she's out, we discard large piles of stuff in our house. At first she'll be mad, she believes those things can be useful in the future. But we always tell her, "Pam pasikip lang ng bahay yan. Wala naman tayo pag gagamitan nyan." Good thing, medyo hindi na ganun si mama lately. We had this very old cabinet that we don't use anymore and she decided to throw this away. :)

For myself naman, I stopped collecting shoes about a year ago. Dati talaga whenever I go shopping, I buy minimum of three pair of shoes. Nakaka kalat nalang sya sa room ko so I decided to stop. Sa office clothes naman, I only have 10 pcs. Mix and match na lang para mukhang hindi nag uulit :) So far, nag eenjoy ako sa ganitong lifestyle. Hindi nakaka stress mag ayos ng gamit.

^ both my parents naman hindi marunong magtapon, kahit mga sirang gamit that can't be fixed. Dami expired food that my mom doesn't bother throwing out kasi may space pa naman daw. Argh!
