Maganda din daw talaga to limit the number of our kids's toys. Kapag kasi madami silang toys, umiikli ang attention span. Minsan, they put aside toys that they can't figure out dahil alam nila na may iba pa naman silang toy.

Maybe pare down muna the number of toys to those na nilalaro talaga nila. Mas madali maglinis kapag onti lang.

Thanks sa tip mga sis.. ang ginagawa ko na lang puro mga cheap items lang ang binibili ko for my kids and if Ithink hindi na nilalaro, tinatapon ko na or pinapamigay. my 5 year old son kasi is a hoarder, kaya medyo mahirap mag dispose ng mga gamit niya. ang ginagawa ko na lang pag nasa school na lang siya saka ako unti unting dinidispose ang gamit niya.

eto ang mahirap gawin with my things. sa mga lakad and events okay lang ako pero pag dating sa gamit super challenged ako.

currently nag lilipat kami ng house sa 30 yung final move namin pero yesterday pinahakot ko na sa bro ko yung ibang gamit ko. naka 4 boxes ata siya and i still have 1 luggage and 1 plastic container to bring with me when i transfer on wed. whew ang hirap... paano ko kaya i cu-cut down ang things ko.

how many bags do you have?
how about shoes?
pambahay?

I'm also a minimalist. I think being a single mom taught me how to live a simple yet fulfilling life. I'm happy this way. The kids get to have a taste of expensive toys, dress, and shoes but hindi yung tipong hoard kung hoard. Saka I am into donating their stuffs, I believe kasi that the more you give, the more you will receive saka iwas kalat na din dito sa bahay. A planner is very helpful for me in living this kind of life.

katuwa naman may thread na ganito. :)

Nuriko, I think pwede naman yung elegant and minimalist at the same time. Kung titingin ka ng photos sa net on minimalist design most of them look really elegant.

I think ang point ng minimalism is to stick to stuff that are really essential to us para makapag-focus tayo on doing things that really matter, like pursuing our passions and spending time with our family.

Less doesn't mean ugly or less quality

In my quest of wanting to live with less, napapansin ko na mas pinag-iisipan ko ang binibili ko. Madalas nabibili ko yung maganda tlaga ang quality and yung nagagamit ko halos araw-araw dahil naka-mindset ako na since I'm gonna have less, I might as well buy something really good.

This is a new challenge for me. Ang hirap kasi do maghoard i always think that i will not have the luxury of time to go to buy again. And if i will make anOther trip next time baka matempt ako to buy again. I justify my hoarding this way.

I have many questions pero teka ill backread some more

I had difficulty letting go of my stuff too. Kaso I imagined them na parang yung mga toys sa toy story 3. I'm not using them naman. Maybe na-s-sad yung stuff ko na they're just being kept in a cabinet not being used. Slowly, I started giving them away to people na alam kong gagamitin talaga sila, or i-t-treasure sila.

After Ondoy rin, biglang naging minimalist living din ako :))

But after that incident, I realized din na ang dami pala naming gamit na hindi naman talaga ganung kaimportante kasi we're still able to live comforably kahit maraming natapos.

I'm now helping out my mom rebuild our kitchen (before I get married and build my own kitchen :D ) with only the important appliances and create plans to protect and prolong the life of these appliances.

we're just renting our place kaya as much as possible ayaw ko ng maraming gamit dahil mahirap maghakot when moving to another place. si ondoy rin ang nagpabawas ng mga gamit at kalat namin ;D

i donate some of the toys na maayos pa pero di na nagagamit sa jollibee before xmas. i regularly sort toys ng anak ko para hindi ako mahirapan magdispose. sa shoes ko nabawasan na rin, kailangan kasi when buying a new pair take out the old one. you wake-up in the morning problemado ka na agad, asking your self kung anong kulay ng sapatos at bag ang bagay sa damit na isusuot mo dahil sa dami ng gamit mo. less complicated ang buhay kapag minimalist.

I am glad I found this thread.  :)

I have always been a minimalist. There are only a few things I need in life to be happy: roof over my head, food, books and a computer.

When you look around my house, you will notice na halos walang gamit hehe. Sa living room, only the bamboo sala set. No decorations whatsoever aside from the two oil paintings on the wall. Sa kitchen , I only have the refrigerator (na nagamit lang nung dumating na si bf), coffee maker and a stove. Sa bedroom, no bedframe, I only have a mattress on the floor, I like it that way. And the books are stacked against the wall. Love it that way. :)

Annually, I do 'spring' cleaning. I segregate yung mga bagay na na-hoard all year round like weddings/christenings giveaways, all sorts of souvenirs and lahat ng mga bagay na mapapakinabangan pa pero di ko kelangan. :)

And I am so glad that my boyfriend has the same principle in life; less is more and only spend when really necessary. I have learned a lot from him pagdating sa simple living at pagtitipid. We grow our own vegetables, we have tomatoes and peppers and some herbs on our 2mx2m garden box :) And sis, do you know that you could make yoghurt from powdered milk? ;D Yes, pwede! Amazed at first. BF knows a lot about being cheap, tee hee!! Although matipid kami, I don't feel deprived, which is important.

And I stopped buying books, I am into digital library now. Currently have 22,000 books, thanks to my geek/hacker boyfriend.

And we splurge on our houseboat that is being built and the equipment that will go into it.

I am sorry for the long post. I tend to blab sometimes when it comes to topics I like. :D

I don't consider myself a minimalist. True hardcore minimalists can pack all their earthly belongings into a suitcase. I aim for efficient living, meaning I can achieve my personal level of comfort while minimizing redundancies and frills.

^ I think that's not entirely true. Kasi we have different needs.  To be a minimalist, I think, is to keep your stuff to a minimum possible based on your needs. As much as possible, keep excesses to a minimum.

You can't expect a mom or a dad to pack all their stuff in a suitcase. But they can be minimalists too.

Minimalism is not about maintaining only a number of things or keeping your stuff to a number that fits in a suitcase. It's bigger than that. The focus is not on how less you have. The focus is to keep stuff and clutter to a minimum so you can attend to more important things in your life.
