Yes definitely a tmj specialist. I read from my research online (after experiencing excruciating pain from my splint) that not all people respond well to splint therapy. I'm just taking a break now from the treatment and might come back and restart program.

Hi! Nagbackread ako from the start. I also have TMJ and i'm already 38 years old. So medyo takot ako kasi last month napansin ko na nag-iba yung bite ko. Parang bumaba yung left side ng mga ngipin ko. Misaligned yung ngipin ko at may overbite ako. Dati hindi ko siya ramdam e pero ngayon pag natutulog ako, may discomfort ako sa ngipin. Natutulog pa naman ako na nakatagilid.

Nung nagpacleaning ako this week, magpapacheck up sana ko kung puwede ako sa Invisalign pero ang sabi ng dentist kelangan muna paayos yung TMJ ko. Pinakuhanan niya ko ng xray then nakita niya na yung wisdom tooth ko daw pinupush yung mga ngipin ko so baka daw patanggal yung wisdom tooth sa akin.

Nightmare sa akin na sabihin na bubunutan ako kasi hindi nga ako makanganga ng maayos  Pati yung sasabihin na magsusuot ako ng splint kasi iniimagine ko kung paano ko susukatan nun. Nagpasukat kasi ako dati ng splint nung nasa mid late 20s ako pero manual kinuha. Hirap na hirap ako ngumanga for impression. Natrauma yata ako nun kaya pag nagpapacleaning ako tapos sinasabi sa kin ng dentist na kailangan ko magpacheck up ng TMJ, natatakot na ko. Kasi iniiisip ko kukuhanan na naman ako ng dental impression 

Pero ngayon kailangan ko na talaga. Iba na talaga yung bite ko e. Nararamdaman ko nagtatama yung upper and lower sa left side pag nagsasalita ako . Hay naku. Kakastress na ngipin 'to.

Anyway, can you recommend a doctor? A dentist friend recommended Dr. Malou Sembrano. Meron ba dito na siya ang doktor?

My husband was diagnosed of TMJ din when he had his regular cleaning lang.  As in parang di nya na ma-close ang jaw nya kasi parang naglock while nakanganga sya during the cleaning.  Dentist had him on splint for 2 or 3 weeks di lang ako sure and said that dapat magbrace daw sya for two years even if he has perfectly straight teeth para daw mag-align ng maigi ang teeth and jaw nya.  BUT this kind of treatment did not work for him. The splint worked but the braces didn't.  Now the dentist did some sort of "pasta" sa canine nya para di daw  lumabas ng alignment ang teeth nya.  And gagawan din daw sya ng transparent na mouth piece that would serve as trainer para umangat ang bite nya.

Now my question is, makatarungan ba na pabayarin kami ng whole amount na 90k even if di naman natapos ang 2 years na braces?

Hindi makatarungan lalo na kung hindi nagwork. Don't pay.

Anyway, para dun sa mga naghahanap pa rin ng doctor, I just came from a TMD specialist Dr. Allan Reyes. First time ko matest talaga formally at madiagnose na may TMD (sabi niya TMD daw ang tawag and not TMJ kasi lahat tayo may TMJ yung joint mismo). Anyway, ok siya kasi sinagot niya lahat ng tanong ko. Pati yung common misconception na sinasabi ng mga dentista sa kin before na kelangan ko magpabraces para maayos yung TMD ko.

Nagpasukat na 'ko ng appliance sa upper teeth para ma-lessen yung clicking at grating sound sa left jaw ko. Yun muna ang aayusin niya for 3 months daw. Then kelangan ko magpacheck up naman sa periodontist for my gums Then tsaka lang niya nirereco na magpacheck ako for braces kung gusto ko i-align yung ngipin ko. Pero yung TMD management daw, appliance lang. 8k yung bayad ko sa appliance.

Alam ko matagal na yung thread na toh pero if may chance lang po may makasagot.

Almost 5 years na po kasi akong nakabraces, then napansin ko po na pumapaling ngipin ko. Pinanga nga ako ng dentist ko then gumagalaw yung jaw joing ko right side pag wide ang nganga. Natakot dentist ko wag ko na daw ulitin yun baka malock jaw ako. Pinaxray nya ko. Then nung binigay ko, sabi nya irerefer nya ako sa TMJ specialist.. sabi nya malala na daw kasi yung case ko. Di naman  sumasakit panga ko. Ngalay lang lagi panga ko kasi di ko alam totoong bite ko na komportable sakin. Right now, hirap na ko talaga, d ko alam anung position gagawin ko kasi minsan tumatama sa ngipin. May mga wisdom teeth pa ko, dalawa ata tumatama sa molars ko. Papaangat pa lang. di ko na po alam gagawin ko..malala na daw yung TMJ ko.

After nun, braces na for 2years.
Braces:  80,000
downpayment: 25,000
2years installment monthly ang payment.

32 years old na ko ngayon and yun migraine ko plus frozen shoulder feeling ko from tmj din talaga at ayoko na yun feeling na ngalay yun jaw mo then afterwards sakit na sa ulo. Pag puyat pag gutom sasakit din.. haaaay.. meron din ako 2 impacted tooth sa ibaba tatanggalin din daw before mag braces katakot!! Pero for the betterment kesa lumala pag nagka edad na ko. Kaka one week ko palang ng splint ang hirap kumain!

Hi, sisses! Share ko lang ang "braces story" ko (Warning: long post)

I wore braces for a year and a half (from 2004 to mid-2006) to "fix" my TMJ disorder (cliking sa jaw ang primary symptom ko). In the process of correcting my cross bite (which was the one causing the TMD) inayos na rin ng ortho ko yung ibang teeth ko na hindi super straight. I was supposed to wear the braces for 2 years or longer but I applied for a job abroad (Middle East) and I got accepted. Since I didn't want to have to look for a new ortho there, pinatanggal ko na yung braces. Ok lang naman kasi naayos na kahit papano yung cross bite ko. My ortho (who is also my kababata and kumpare) told me that I needed to wear my retainer religiously.

EH PASAWAY AKO. I lost my first retainer, and when I lost (AGAIN!) the replacement, it seemed so expensive and such a hassle to have a third one made so I JUST STOPPED wearing a retainer.

Fast-forward to about a year ago. My TMD was seemingly becoming worse. My jaw always felt "ngalay" and the clicking became really prominent. As in tuwing ibubuka ko mouth ko nag cli-click yung panga ko. So I went back to my ortho. He made me wear a bite splint to increase daw the height of my bite. I LOST THE SPLINT (grabe lang, diba) but this time I learned my lesson and I really felt weird if I didn't wear the splint (nasanay na yung jaw ko) so i had a new one made (ANG GASTOS MGA BES). However, ito na. After almost 6 months of wearing the splint (maximum na daw yung 6 months), yung height ng bite ko nag improve pero yung cross bite ganun pa rin. ENDING: I need to wear braces again for another TWO YEARS.

Huhuhu na depress talaga ko nung sinabi yun ng ortho ko kasi naalala ko pa kung gaano kasakit nung una akong nag braces plus the hassle of eating. Tapos yung ortho ko pa medyo hassle yung clinic nya (nasa loob ng Ayala Alabang Village -- super traffic coming from our place in Las Pinas tapos need pa to get a gate pass each time papasok sa village). Kaso magaling siya, super gaan ng kamay and he gives me discounts (first braces ko parang 30k nung 2004 then now 60k na raw standard price pero 40k na lang sakin). He's also very patient sa mga queries and weird concerns ko.

He also asked if I wanted ceramic brackets 50k na lang daw kahit 100k daw usually yun. Kaso mas mabagal daw movement nun. Yung self-ligating/Damon daw mabilis pero mas mahal din and not advisable for older patients (I'm 42 na). Sabi ko ok na ako sa 40k na metal brackets tutal tip-edge naman gagamitin nya and he'll throw in na for free yung temporary plastic jackets na gagamitin ko for one of my two front teeth. Naka porcelain jacket kasi now so hindi kakapitan ng bracket.

I almost change orthos kasi nga hassle yung lugar nya and minsan also yung sched ng availability nya kaso natakot naman ako sa ibang horror stories dito re orthos na di marunong or sobrang ganid sa pera. Also naisip ko, what if pumunta ako sa new ortho tapos palpak? Sayang pera tapos babalik din ako sa old ortho ko, medyo nakakahiya pa. Meron sanang ortho malapit sa work place ko, 30k lang kaso yun nga ang fear ko, what if di sing galing ng old ortho ko? I didn't want to take the risk.

Yun lang mga sis. BE RELIGIOUS IN WEARING YOUR RETAINER after you have your braces removed para di kayo matulad sa akin na ang-relapse ang cross bite.

Sa Saturday ikakabit braces ko, 4 days from now.  Bibili na naman ako ng lugaw, oatmeal, ice cream, jelly ace, etc. Hay.

Hello po! Just want to ask po if my condition is leading to TMJ or TMJ na. I have a friend kasi na may TMJ din and sabi nya, it's very likely that I have TMJ.. I have been suffering the clicking of my jaw and buzzing sa ears mga 6 months na po ata.. When I consulted my dentist about it, after a series of check ups and an xray, initially akala nila wisdom tooth pero hindi naman so they prescribed B-complex which I took for 1 week.. after that, nawala din po yung clicking and buzzing/ringing sa ear.. pero recently, bumalik nanaman then sumasakit din yung ilalim ng ear ko, samay jaw area po ata.. also, I have been experiencing frequent migraine attacks recently although understandable po kasi I really have migraine.. Pero po hindi pa ako nakaka-experience na mag-locked jaw, in fact, 4 fingers pa ang kasya sa mouth ko.. is it possible na TMJ po ito? Thanks po!
I'm from Bicol po pala and I'm not sure kung merong TMJ Specialist dito kasi yung dentist ko, hindi po ata although they also suspected na baka TMJ nga..

I did braces for two years after my splint and all i can say is braces doesnt treat your tmd only your teeth alignment and find a reliable dentist talaga, nag splint ako then nagka open bite ako kahit pa nag braces ako,i went to another dentist for a cleaning lang then she immediately noticed may open bite ako ,ang sabi niya may tmd daw ako and needs treatment like splint and braces hahaha funny coz after lang yan ng 3yrs ko ng tmd treatment tapos ipapa tmd treament ulit ako coz mali daw ginawa sakin ng dentist na galing dito sa forum; Oh well nangyari na but the best cure for me was the splint ;no pain na sana all the time splint nalang; Coz now may tmd pain parin ako after braces

Hi everyone.😊 I also have TMD for almost 4 years. Clicking and grating sound on right jaw. I want to share my case to help others, because this thread helped me to find a good and real TMD specialist. I saw someone from here recommended OPAP so I messaged OPAP on facebook and lead me to Dr. Ricardo Boncan. During this COVID time, I had my TMD checked. He is the 5th dentist I consulted regarding my TMD.

Search for Dr. Boncan?s background so you can personally see his reputation. When I had mine checked by him, I was so enlightened about TMD. I brought my xrays the other dentist had told me to take, and he educated me that it was just sayang because its got nothing to tell about TMD condition. He also doesnt recommend me braces as part of TMD treatment.

So in my case, because I sometimes grind my teeth at night, thats why splint to wear only at night. He doesnt recommend to wear splint 24hrs. And during the day, he recommended me to download BruxApp.

Just to give hope to others with TMD who might be discouraged because of the expensive fees from other dentists, try to consult Dr. Boncan. My TMD treatment with him was only 12,500 for the splint. Sad news though, he told me that wearing splint is not definite, it depends on each case.
