help naman mga sis, my daughter was first honor in nursery, now that she's kinder parang nababago na sya, before kasi lahat ng exams nya perfect now may mali na , parang i can't stand it parang ako yung na pepressure bakit ganun sya . what will i do?

ask yourself this muna:

bakit kailangang perfect sya lagi sa exams?

and how is she at school?

kasi if she's still happy and generally thriving, if she still loves to go to school, if she is still happy to learn, then ok lang dapat (sana)

i agree. as long as the kid is happy and thriving, that's ok na sana.

my mom was a perfectionist din as i was growing up. i had good grades in school naman and i can say i was a quick learner. pero it got to a point na she wont let me join mga sports groups or other communities so i could focus on improving my grades. tipong pag nagkaka below 95% ako, disappointed na sya. the pressure was too much for me and i was generally not happy. sabi nga nila, all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. ang nangyari sa kin naman, nagrebelde ako when i got to high school and lalo na college.

Ako din... when I dropped an honor level, my Mom was disappointed... it didn't matter to her na I was a reader beyond my peers' level, grades lang ang tinitingnan nya... in the end, nabwisit ako, I purposely stopped making the honor roll and just learned for pressure... yun nga lang din,  grew up with an aversion to achieving

always start with the basic. phonemic awareness is the best. start with the easiest letter. accompany it with showing pictures and then tracing of the letter. you can download activities from the internet and the letter sounds too. its fun teaching a toddlers.. Phonemic awareness is the foundation in reading.

my daughter will be nursery next school year, but I'm planning to enroll her to summer class Pre Nursery level. She knows ABC and numbers 1-15, but she's having a hard time writing the letters and numbers. I dont pressure her if dosnt want to write or study today, but it that really okay? what if she's in school already and she has homework to do, and she doesnt want to do it, what will I do now. She's turning 4 next month, but she prefers to play and watch TV than to write letters and numbers :(

I'll always thank my previous yaya for always playing "school" with my daughter (yep, guilty working mom). It was easier to teach my daughter things after that. We did not pressure her though. She wanted to learn.

My daughter learned how to read when she was barely 2. She learned to write her name when she was 2 1/2, learned to spell simple words (cat, love, dog) when she was 3, learned to do simple math when she was only 3 too. She's not shy too. Emotionally strong. Before she even enrolled for Preschool, she can already pass for Kinder.

However, her self help skills were very poor. And I'll always thank her teacher for helping her improve on those.

Now that she's 4, she dresses on her own, brushes her own teeth, cleans her stuff, makes her own bed, eats on her own, etc etc. :)

wow! i like this topic! hindi kasi ako teacher material. and my patience only surfaced nung nagkaanak ako. pero super ayoko magturo. but then iba pala kapag anak mo yung tinuturuan mo and nakikita mong natututo sya.

I enrolled my kid to a summer class, pre-Kinder. Her teacher said that if she pass the test at the end of their 5 weeks course,  I can enroll her to Kinder, but if not, Nursery. Seems like she's enjoying school. No tantrums, no separation anxiety. Her problem is more on phonics, and writing.

My son learned the alphabet and numbers when he was 2. He learned to write and draw at 3. I want him to love reading kasi.

Signing in! My 2.5 yrs old daughter loves music a lot. She's a HI5 fan and a play house disney addict. Also, I started reading to her when she was 3 months, ngayon nga lang hindi na masyado but still andyan pa rin yung books collection nya and from time to time she would ask me to read her stories. Every night, every sleeping time, she wants me to read a book first, and one book is not enough, minsan ako pa nauuna makatulog kababasa;D Nakakatuwa, kasi yung effect sa kanya ng story telling is, I would sometime hear her tell a story by herself.

And since, yung ganitong age matalas ang memory nila, kaya isang rinig lang sa music nasasabayan na kagad. Like my daughter, she knows by heart na yung song ni Katy Perry na Firework, Lady ga**'s bad romance. Kaso, I'm a fan of Lea Salonga, kaya di ko masyado ma-dig tong mga music nya. I would want to let her listen to Lea's repertoire kaso puro tape pa ang meron ako lol, bili muna ako casette tape.

Aside from music, she knows and can identify different colors, sings her ABC's and counts 1-16, for some reason lagi sya humihinto sa 16. And oh, she loves swimming too.

My daughter is 3 ½ na, and she's in a Japanese preschool. All they do in school is play, and minsan art.

Her primary language is Tagalog, 2nd is English. Pero since nagschool siya just this first week of April, panay Japanese na ang gamit niya. I talk to her in Tagalog and english but she talks to me in Japanese. LOL

When she's home, I teach her ABCs. Before magstart ang lesson namin, I let her wear her crown, pampagana niya yun eh. She recognizes the letters na, like pag tinuturo ko yung nasa poster, alam niya na agad (i use her wand to point out the letters) pero minsan nakakalimutan. She's into writing/tracing now. She can write her name na rin. Kailangan may kids music siya habang nagsusulat kasi she likes to sing while she's writing. Then pag very good siya, color or painting time naman! She's always excited about that part kaya makikita mo talagang ginagalingan niya.  ;D

And then I put a sticker sa hand niya, and sa nagawa niya for the day. It makes her happy and makes her want to learn more.

Medyo mahina siya sa numbers, she can count up to 20 but can't recognize it pa.
Sa colors naman, she knows it pero pag tinatanong ko siya para siyang napipipi. lol
I'm planning to work on that pag natapos niya yung ABC workbook. :)

And I always tell her to let me know kung napapagod na siya, kasi ayaw ko naman ma-pressure siya. :)

My daughter had started her summer classes as a pre-nursery yesterday. So far ayaw nya munang umalis ako sa tabi niya.  Medyo culture-shocked pa siya.  She can relate to other kids but not really sa teachers niya 100%. I knew that feeling kasi ganun din ako when I started schooling.  makita ko lang mommy ko sa labas ng window ng classroom namin secured na ako.  So ganun yung nakikita ko sa daughter now that she wants me to be with her.  I know naninibago pa lang siya and will eventually learn to stand to her own sa class niya.  Pero medyo tinatakasan ko siya pag nalilibang siya with her teachers and classmates like going out of the room secretly so she can build her confidence little by little. 2 hours ang class niya and so far, the  last 1 hour siya na mag-isa with her classmates.   :)

I work night shift so when I came home at 7am, I sleep in a while and wake up at 9am to prepare my daughter na.  kahit puyat ako, I know it;'s worth it because I can see and witness my daughter's progress with other people especially she's beginning to study na.  This is the one that I don't want to miss. Minsan lang 'to.  Pag laki ng mga anak natin, they're busy na with other stuff and friends nila. This is something we should treasure.  :D

I want my daughter to feel and remember especially when she's already grown-up that I was with her during her pre-school days. This will have a good impact to her and will pass along to their own kids in the future.

^ sis, i have downloaded a few worksheets pero di ko na maalala yung website, sorry. i also have materials about reading from the International Parenting Association website. quite useful, me instructions pa. di ko pa nagamit lahat kasi parang overwhelmed ako, ang ginagamit namin ngayon is yung basic phonograms pa lang. pa-google na lang po nun website. :)

^^ hay, ako first day of summer class ko lang nasamahan eldest ko. swerte mo sis. :)

my son is 4yo and incoming nursery. he knows the alphabet, numbers and the concept of counting, shapes; ngayon sa school nag-trace na sila ng letters. he also learned na rin to match similar things. problem ko is how to teach colors. hit-and-miss pa rin sa pag-identify eh. minsan iniisip ko nga baka color blind, pero nare-recognize naman nya yung differences ng colors, di nga lang alam yung tamang tawag (except for black and white :) ).

ako sa tinggin ko it depends sa bata, sa eldest ko kasi(she is now 9 years old) madali ko naman siyang na naturuan sa shapes, alphabet and animals pero hirap siya sa pag write and sa color, she entered school at 3 at sa school na na enchance naging sociable na rin siya. until now honor student pa din siya.

Ang youngest ko naman is very matalino, he is now 4 years old. hindi ko siya tinuruan, basta nood lang siya ng dvd about letters. at age 2 nagbabasa na siya.  Nung pinasok ko siya last year pinuri pa ako ng teachers kasi ang galing ko daw magturo, I honestly told them naman na di ko tinuruan, di ko nga alam kung paano siya natututo. he is now prep he skipped kinder.

para sakin let's not force our kids, they will learn eventually, we just need to find a good school which can cater our children's need.

when my kid turned past 2y/o marami na rin siya alam, like the alphabet, shapes, colors, & count 1-20, and other "bag of tricks" like recite our home address. She also likes reading books & sing/dance her fave Hi-5 songs.

I wanted her to try arts but she's not very interested in pens & crayons. I want her to learn to occupy herself :( I was expecting that for her age.  ::) Ugh..Right now I'm out of ideas.

^sis try using clays, syempre always with guidance yan.

my 3y/o kiddo ko naman mahilig sa arts, dances, letters, books pero hindi siya mahilig sa numbers, she can recite but until know she still misses recognizing other number unlike letters alam na niya lahat even way before she turned two. she still can't read though. at sobrang hirap na turuan. nagtatantrums na. gusto nya interactive like sa mga net, sometimes hindi cya interested sa paper stuffs na ginagawa ko for her
