Alam ko that it's usually 1, 7 and 18.  Any other ideas?

Nako iisa pa lang kasi ang baby namin kaya I'm planning to celebrate her bday with a party every year hanggang kaya...  at saka we live abroad kasi so by age 5 baka hindi na kami makauwi ng phils for her bday dahil sa school restrictions.

(siguro magbabago lang ang level ng pagkabongga nung party, I agree siguro mas bongga ang 1st, 7th and 18th)  :D

i want din to celebrate my baby's birthday every yr syempre di lahat ng taon bongga. basta me budget go!.. balak ko magpa swimming party later on maybe on 5th or 6th bday nya, iba pa yun 7th and others.. i think there is not rule naman on when should we give kids a party. its up to us padin and if budget permits.

Every year - since they're twins, one party lang naman each year and I think we spend reasonably for these parties.  My husband and I want to celebrate their life since they almost didn't make it when they were born (preemies with very low birth weight, stayed in the NICU for 2 months).  Next year, school party or house party ulit. :)

When they're older, they can choose if they want a party or a trip or whatever they want for their birthday, as long as it's reasonable.

My son celebrates his birthday yearly with a party pero hindi lahat bongga. We always ask him what he wants for his birthday para naman siguradong happy sya. I just make sure na palagi maganda ang cake nya and personalized just for him :)

plan namin to celebrate our baby's birthday every year. yung iba bongga yung iba simple lang kasi gusto namin instead of a bongga party, we'll go on family trips instead. gagawin namin yun when she can walk by herself na para maappreciate niya. she's our only daughter so talagang pinaghahandaan namin. we want her to be happy on her special day every year.  :D

when you say "hindi bongga", do you mean party sa house or school with friends and classmates?  ako kasi, my kids are just a year and 12 days apart - both girls pa.  this year, when we celebrated my youngest's 1st birthday, sabit na rin si ate para may gift din sya.  pero next year, i don't plan to give them a party - get tog lang with family.

^Yup, school party and party with our families lang (both-sides). I agree with sis bluekaren780, dapat more special yung 1st, 3rd, 7th and 18th/21st (boy and girl kasi ang anak ko). This year though, kahit my son will turn 7, walang party. He wants to go to disneyland kasi on his birthday. Super gastos naman kung may trip na, may party pa hehe ;) But we'll see pa din. Pwedeng simpleng school party plus the trip :)

1 - thanksgiving
7 -  age of reason?
13 - passage from child to teener
18 for girls and 21 for boys - passage to adulthood

*modify ko lang dinagdagan ko ng reason hehe

family lang talaga, sis. tapos trip na lang somewhere na mag-eenjoy siya. cousins ko magkatulad na month of february ang birthdays so what my aunt does is naghahanda na lang sa school for their classmates. they had parties in fastfoods when they turned one tapos the rest sa house na lang. they had a party in a resort (when they turned 7 and 4 respectively). now that they're studying simpleng handa lang sa school tapos konting handa rin sa house for the neighborhood kids at yun sabay na lang silang dalawa.

Oo nga.  What is the significance kapag 3rd birthday?

3rd birthday is like the first ever celebration for a child.

We did a study on this.  Nag-interview kami ng 20 kids in a nursery class, ages from 4 to 5 years old, as to how was their first, second, and third birthday celebration.

First – the excitement is present pero all their stories are based on what they saw from pictures and they watched from video that was taken during the party... yung iba naman, based on the stories of their parents… so yung personal experience na masasabi is not really present.

Second – vaguely remembered pa rin… madalas name-mix na nila with other celebrations they had… plus more often than not, super simple na lang or possibly, it wasn’t celebrated at all.

Third – the excitement gets back, but way more than what they felt nung nagkukuwento sila about their first birthday celebration… you can even see the glow in their eyes… as in para silang nagpa-flash back and hoping to experience it again… kahit kung ia-analyze, the celebration was more simplier than that of what they had during their first.

Another observation was during our daughter’s first birthday celebration.  It was a celebration na lahat talaga kami in the family eh may participation sa preparation on the day itself.  We were busy setting up the venue then with my brother.  Kasama din namin wife niya while their daughter was playing around the area.

She was turning 3 then in 2 months time.  Everytime na may makikita siya na gusto niya, tumitigil siya sa paglalaro and will tell me, “tita, sa birthday ko, meron din akong ganito” and will ask affirmation from her parents, “di ba Mama? di ba Papa?” and her parents will agree with her.

A week before her birthday, kinumusta ko how’s their preparation.  Wala naman palang celebration na mangyayari.  Tumatango lang pala sila just for the sake na matigil lang sa pangungulit ang anak nila.  Just like most of us, 7th birthday ang dapat na bonggang celebration after the 1st one.  Hindi naman na daw maaalala ng anak nila yun.

“D” day, came, parehong may work ang parents niya.  During her morning playtime, she keeps on telling her playmates na it’s her birthday and she’s excited kasi may ganito siya, may ganyan siya and she were referring dun sa mga sinasabi niyang meron siya during our daughter’s 1st birthday celebration.

It totally broke my heart.  Di ko masabi sa kanya na nothing like that will happen.  So what we did, cooked spaghetti na lang for merienda.  Then Dada left home and bought cake from Goldilocks, Ice cream from a nearby grocery and a few balloons enough dun sa mga batang nasa paligid ng house namin.  We set up yung living room ng house ng mother ko (isang compound po kasi kami).  Nag-lettering lang kami ng “happy birthday” sa cartolina.  A few crepe paper here and there.  And there you go.  Pinagbihis lang namin siya ng best dress niya tapos lahat kami naka-pangbahay lang.  Ha-ha.  Sang the birthday song and let her blow the candles on the cake.

After everything, sabi niya, it was her best birthday ever.  She’s now almost 8 yrs old, at yun pa rin ang lagi niyang ikinukuwento sa mga kalaro niya with the same excitement and overwhelming feeling.

I plan to throw parties for my daughters every year. Will most probably splurge on their 1st and 7th bday... 2nd to 6th bday is to be celebrated but simpler. I also want to give them parties when they turn 13, 16 and 18. :)

wow, thanks for sharing your research, sis bluekaren.  ang hirap nito, may kids are just a year apart (Jan, 6 and 18).  so parang every year magce-celebrate kami?  haha.  like last year, 1st ni ate.  last january, 1st ni bunso, sabit na rin 2nd ni ate.  then, next year, 3rd ni ate, sabit na rin 2nd ni bunso.  after that, 3rd ni bunso, sabit 4th ni ate.  then, after that, 5th ni ate, sabit 4th ni bunso...and then, dire-diretso na!  hahahaha!  magastos itich!

Just like me and my ate. I was born feb 18 and my ate's birth date is feb 19 :) we celebrate our birthdays together when we were young so 1 party lang. hehe. and when we got older we celebrate for 2 days, like feb 18 dinner for the whole clan and feb 19 for our friends. LOL. but you know, yan ang pinakamatipid. I wish nga my daughters were born on the same month, HE HE HE.
